OT: Tigers vs Twins 5-25-12 perspective please
Tigers are playing poorly BFD. The Tigers are 6 out on May 25 BFD.
A little perspective for anyone not versed in baseball lore, we have to go all the way back to 2011 to find struggling teams with well respected managers who turned disappointing seasons into legendary comebacks.
2011 Tampa Bay Devil Ray were 9 games behind the vaunted Boston Red Sox on Sept 4 but came all the way back to secure the Wild Card spot behind the guidance of Manager Joe Maddon.
2011 St. Louis Cardinals managed by the incomparable Tony La Russa were 10.5 back in both the Division and Wild Card race in late August, but came all the way back to eventually win the World Series.
Not saying the Tigers are going to win the Division this season, just that it is too early to bail on either this team or Jim Leyland
I will go out on a limb and say the Tigers will go on to win the division. Not worried at all. Let's see how Smyly does this outing. Love watching this kid pitch.
Let us remember that, as late as the end of July last year, the Tigers were 57-51 (not to mention 28-26 at the end of May) and Cleveland and Chicago were still within earshot. Plenty of season left.
the Tigers pull it together. It would be very pleasing to see the Tigers, make Chris Perez eat his words.
What words will he eat? When he said that the Indians were a good team? Which you'd have to say they are.
wrong with saying the Indians are good team. He didn't have to disparage the Tigers while doing so. As I recall last year, the Indians were a good team, then they fell apart. Lets see how it plays out.
One thing the Tigers need to do is make the routine play and not give teams extra outs. Twins would not have scored in the first if Peralta can execute an easy ass throw to first.
I about shit myself when I saw that. Theyre not even playing fundamental baseball!
Thata boy Alex
Meanwhile the White Sox are up 3-1 on Indians in the 2nd
Anyone else think if Dirks takes a good angle Spann's hit he makes the play. Tough to say, but he definitely misjudged the ball
Were is the "fire Leyland" crowd tonight?
Cabrera steals 2nd and manufactures a run. Way to go Big Fella
Ugh, really?
EDIT: Blown double play :(
Fire Leyland time?
Just get the easy outs fergodsakes
really
Brayan Villareal is a one-man shitshow.
I would hope that the mound would get called for interference on that play. If the mound hadn't been there, it might have been a closer play at home (but not by much).
More like Brayan Villareally Bad. Amirite?
...
I'll show myself out.
Why do I have the feeling that 9 runs aren't enough?
Apparently the Twins have been watching us play defense. That was brutal.
Indians down 9-2 in the 8th.
What the hell was up with Raburn? Must've thought it was a jump ball
It's Ryan Raburn. That's what up with him.
A missed play in the field and Coke promptly serves up a double. Right on script. Coke is done mentally.
It is funny how threads aren't nearly as lengthy when the team is playing well. But I suppose it's that way with most fanbases.
Did the Twins manager get booted and if so why? [The game tracker had part of the statement blocked by the scoreboard graphic. Apparently too much action for them to handle in their limited space.]
Close play at first where the runner was probably safe. Jamie Carroll (the batter) got tossed, then Gardenhire said the magic words and got run as well.
We had to watch the replay, due to the production guys thinking a truck commercial was more important than the action actually going on at the ballpark.
The production guys must have hired the Gametracker designers.
To Gardy's credit, he did leave the Ump his hat as a parting gift.
