OT- Tigers v. Orioles 7/6

Submitted by BiSB on

With one out in the bottom of the 9th, Miguel Cabrera just hit a two-run jack to left to tie the game.

Cabby is now hitting .343 with 21 homers and 73 RBIs.  His slugging percentage is "yes."  But sure, Mark Teixeira DEFINITELY deserved more All Star votes.

I've seen in a Tiger uniform.  Ever.  And I go back to Al Kaline.  And we got him for Maybin and Miller, neither of whom has accomplished anything in two plus seasons in Florida.  They still might but it's becoming less and less likely.  Maybe Dombrowski really does know what he is doing.

Maybe Dombrowski really does know what he is doing.

Are there really still doubters out there about Dombrowski?  Aside from the Jurrjens trade, there haven't been really any gut-punching moves that he's made.  Not everything he's done has worked out, but we've been competitive for half a decade and all the moves he made in the past offseason seem destined to keep us competitive for the forseeable future.  Losing Polanco and Granderson was tough, but guys like Boesch, Jackson, Scherzer look to be solid contributors for years to come.  Plus Cabrera is locked up for what, another 3-4 years?  Hell even the Damon signing, which I was skeptical about, is looking like a genius move to give the roster a nice balance between youth and experience.

Looking forward to another great Central Division race in August and September.  Let's win it this time!

We let Polanco walk away since he is an aging player and wanted a long term contract. I think this was the right move. We trade Granderson (and Jakcson) and got much younger and much more talented.

Don't mean to nit-pick, but I don't think you should hold Poly and Granderson against Dombrowski.

If I can read numbers correctly, I think Cabrera currently leads the league in all three triple-crown categories; average, home runs, and number of times causing Rod Allen to say something ridiculous.

I loved the Inge at bat in the 8th, where he battled many pitches until finally doing a great slide to third and getting safe.

yea, straight up baseball IQ.  I know people rag on him, myself included, but he's a great guy for the orginazation, great fielder, and has some pop in his bat.

plus he's been here since the badddd times.

Yeah, gotta agree. Inge takesakes a lot of undue criticism. We get it. He's not a great hitter. Sometimes he's not even a good hitter. But he works his ass off in the field and it shows, he's stuck around through the really bad times, and just generally seems like a good guy. And for that, I have to love the guy.

(And so, apparently, do a number of other fans. Gotta laugh at the player of the game voting sometimes, when Inge has nothing but K's and still polls in at 2nd.)

Considering yesterday's game and the fact that we're going to the 11th, can't imagine the Orioles have much major league talent left to stick on the mound...prediciting Tigers win in bottom of 11th with a single which scores a runner from second.  Bedlam ensues.

Jesus, scary stuff in Texas tonight with that fan falling from the second deck.

On a lighter note, rally starter from Jackson in the 11th!

Damen with his 2,500th hit and a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 11th, or Cabrera being Cabrera and tying the game in the 9th?

Hmmm....

can anyone who was watching on FSN re-enact what Rod Allen did for the Johny Damon walk-off?

I'm stuck in Indianapolis and had to watch the ball fly out of right field on gamecast

I agree, that seemed a little strong.  But, hell, if he wins the triple crown, that puts him right up there.  You have to look at a guy's production relative to the era he's playing in... people aren't hitting 60 homers like they were 10 years ago, and they aren't batting 400 like they were a hundred years ago.

Dombrowski just announced that Galarraga has been sent to Toledo, and reliever Robbie Weinhart will be recalled. With the All Star Break looming, the Tigers don't need a 5th starter until July 20.

Not in response to performance though, because of the All Star break the Tigers can move pitchers around and won't need a fifth starter until the 20th. Taking his roster spot is Robbie Wiendhardt, very talented righty, drafted in 2008. He's got some shiny AAA stats, with a 1.98 ERA, 0.95 WHIP in 27.1 IP. 18 K's to 4 walks makes him look a little like a control specialist, it's not a good strikeout total, but he still has a good ratio due to good control.

I missed BOTH jacks! Bottom of the 8th, we can't bring Inge home from third with one out. I figure "game over". I hit the shower. (Okay... not upset about this one. My wife hit the shower with me.)

Anyhow, a bit later, we're in bed, it's after 11, Baltimore is getting some hits and the Tigers had a 1,2,3. It's late, she's trying to sleep, I figure, "NOW game over". Then Johnny Friggin' 2500 Hits Damon has a monster walk off. Sonuva...
