in a different article that say something along the lines of "I'm smart enough to know it's not working." And I was thinking what about 2 months ago when he was still sucking?

Coke wasn't actually sucking at that point. His win/loss record early in the season was not indicative of the way he was pitching. He was actually pitching pretty solid early in the season.  However, he has been horrible over his  last 4 starts  which is why this move had to be made. Anybody who thinks this move should have been a long time ago has no clue what they are talking about though. Just looking for another reason to bash Leyland  guess

Not to mention the Tigers didn't exactly have another option for that fifth spot for most of the season. Furbush has pitched well enough for them to give him a shot at it, but he wasn't with the Tigers for most of the season.

You may, may, may be able to argue he shouldn't have got his last start.  But that's a tough argument to make still.

Some people are so intent on their belief that Leyland is not a good manager that they straight make shit up.

worth of data, Furbush has NOT been as good as a 2.49 ERA would have you believe. His FIP is 4.70. I'm not expecting him to be some savior of the rotation either.

Finally. Coke had that horrible relief outing vs the Yankees to open the season, then had a few decent games in April and that bought him time. Its now July and Tigers are in a pennant race....no time to be messing around with Phil Coke. Hopefully he makes a good middle reliever.

Im torn on if I want Brad Pennt sent somewhere else too. His 4.66 era isnt THAT bad if he was a 4th or 5th starter. Has some games where he'll go out and give you 7 innings of 2 run ball so I cant hate on that. Question would be who would replace him but I dont think Detroit is really considering doing anything with Penny.

never have even sniffed the rotation. i agree we needed help in the rotation, but this shores up the lack of production we were getting from schlereth and makes our bullpen very respectable. penny was actually intended to be 4th man in the rotation after verly scherzer and porcello, it just happens that we have not had the days off yet in the season to get it back in order. haha. we started the season to get a good matchup and have not had the chance to change it back. expect a different rotation order after all star break.

on Yahoo Sports team rosters haha.  Seriously.  It's either a prank or Yahoo Sports auto moves a guy in the roster list based on where he last played?

Anyway, so there's one more arm in the bullpen ......

This is fine, but here's the other problem. Porcello has been bad for his last 3 starts. 11 1/3 IP, 18 ER, 2 K, 4 BB. If he continues much longer we may have to replace him in the rotation as well.
