OT- Tigers-Orioles game 1

Submitted by WMUgoblue on

Well it's playoff time, here's tonight's pitching matchup.

Detroit

  • Max Scherzer
  • 18-5, 220.1 IP and a 3.15 ERA
  • FIP: 3.12
  • K/9: 10.29
  • BB/9: 2.57

Baltimore

  • Chris Tillman
  • 13-6, 207.1 IP and a 3.34 ERA
  • FIP: 4.01
  • K/9: 6.51
  • BB/9:2.86

After a horrific start to the season Tillman has really come on during the 2nd half to become Baltimore's pseudo Ace.

Living in Baltimore this is sort of a dream come true for me, hopefully the Tigers have a good showing here and take a split back home to Comerica with them. I'm heading over to Camden in about 20 minutes but here's a gamethread in case anyone wanted it. EAT EM UP!

EDIT: Posting starting lineups here too

NO. Detroit Baltimore
1. I. Kinsler, 2B N. Markakis, RF
2. T. Hunter, RF A. De Aza, LF
3. M. Cabrera, 1B A. Jones, CF

5. J. Martinez, LF S. Pearce, 1B

Bullpens might end up being the difference in this series. Baltimore has one of the best and we are all well aware of the issues the Tiger's pen had during the season.

Joba has been horrible the second half of this season. Why he is still our 8th inning man is testament to how lousy the bullpen is.

Baltimore in this series. They had a big edge in the bullpen and defensively. Their starters also had very good numbers. People were acting like they won 96 games by accident.

The O's were not playing 30 game over .500 caliber baseball at that point. This is not the same team the Tigers saw earlier in the season.

If the Tigers pull this series out it will probally be in 5 games, the posts about the Tigers sweeping this series were borderline delusional. The numbers say the Tigers are the underdog in this series.

What's Dombrowski supposed to do? He signed Nathan (I'm certain most fans likes this is the offseason) he took a flyer on Joba, who has at least been competent. He traded for the best reliever on the market and we had a late injury to Rondon.

Iglesias is the shortstop of the future as he should be, and Nick is going to continue to get everyday AB's at 3rd because his bat will continue to progress. Avila is a problem, but they can cover up his bat if they get more production from Castellanos and a healthy Miggy.

Benoit in the off-season, was a net wash. It did not make the bullpen any better. The fact that Dave was relying on a flyer in Joba to make the difference in the bullpen, is a problem in and of itself.

As far as Soria goes, the Tigers ruined him by how he was handled initially. I have no doubt that pitching in garbage situations initially rather than closing games negatively impacted Soria. Their handling of him after the trade was borderline idiotic.  Of course, that one is mostly on Ausmus, not Dave.
