OT- Tigers Open Thread 4/14

Submitted by david from wyoming on

Wilk gets the start to fill in for Fister and made it through the 1st inning.

The Tigers are the only team in all of MLB to not give up a run in the first inning yet this season. Long gone are the days of Jeremy Bonderman I guess.

One solo homerun and a single != getting rocked.

Wilk wasn't ever going to throw a shutout today. The offense needs to take the pressure off him and he'll be just fine.

up and over the plate, and rocked is what he will be. If he goes 5-6 innings and leaves with a chance to win, I'll be happy. But he won't last long if he doesn't start changing his location. Even Rod Allen said he should go inside, and Allen is a moron.

So you argument is that you're right because even a moron thinks the same thing you do?  That's brillant reasoning.  And Rod Allen is a great announcer.  He's a little off the wall at times, but he obviously knows the players well and is entertaining to listen to.

Rod Allen has more baseball knowledge in his pinkie than we could ever hope to aquire. When watching the broadcasts I am continuously impressed with his knowledge of the nuances of the game. He regularly predicts hit and runs, steals, ect. before the pitch, and I hear him regularly talking about prospects on the opposing team all the way down to single-A. His gig traveling half the year with the Tigers around the country (with a nice break in the offseason), schmoozing with players in the clubhouse before and after games, collecting a nice paycheck, and talking about baseball as his job is a pretty ridiculously sweet gig that he would not have if he wasn't immensely knowledgable about baseball. If Rod Allen is an idiot what does that make you?

If you second guessed Rod's opinion on a particular matter, I would agree you were just stating your opinion like any other fan. You said he was an idiot, and I guarantee you when it comes to knowing baseball he's far from it. You sound like an idiot for calling someone else an idiot who is far more knowledgable than you are, and it doesn't make you a fan for calling him such.

Wilk has given us a decent start so far, after 5 innings.  Just got to get some hits now, as so far this series the Sux pitchers have somehow shut us down.  And I thought offense was our strong suit...

...and proceeds to strike out.  Anyone have a number I can call to get ahold of DD with a suggestion, regarding whom to send down when Inge is re-activated?

but on what he doesn't do with the bat the first few months of nearly every season.  Rayburn just doesn't seem to have the right stuff upstairs to get off to a decent start at the plate.  Everyone says he has the ability to hit, but why keep on expecting it to translate to on the field year-after-year when we see the same results year-after-year?

And he doesn't even have a good enough glove anywhere on the field to justify carrying him along until he starts hitting late in the season.

Yeah, that Troy Woolfork guy sucked too, amiright?

Raburn has more baseball talent than about 6.84 billion people. But lets focus in on the fact that maybe 150 people are better than him (and also the fact that the Tigers don't have anyone else to play instead of him)!

He is a long reliever that normally isn't asked to protect a lead. His career whip is 1.5 and last year it was 1.367. He isn't great but he does his job. Every team has not great options at the tail end of their bullpen and are forced to run out guys that are going to give up runs during the course of the season. I'm sorry you don't like the Tiger's option.

Tigers send Clete Thomas down and activate Brandon Inge - who is supposedly set to start at 2B tomorrow.

Are you kidding me? Clete Thomas had potential. I love Inge, but when is it time to just say this isn't working out?
