OT- Tigers Open Thread 4/14
And Alexei Ramirez with a solo homerun. 1-0 White Sox. Boo
just like that, Wilk is getting rocked. He's leaving everything out over the plate.
One solo homerun and a single != getting rocked.
Wilk wasn't ever going to throw a shutout today. The offense needs to take the pressure off him and he'll be just fine.
up and over the plate, and rocked is what he will be. If he goes 5-6 innings and leaves with a chance to win, I'll be happy. But he won't last long if he doesn't start changing his location. Even Rod Allen said he should go inside, and Allen is a moron.
Rod Allen played in the majors, watches more MLB games than any of us, and interacts with MLB players more then any of us. I'm not sure why any fan would just dismiss him as a moron.
I am qualified to say this because in 1995, I correctly guessed the speed of my third pitch at Cedar Point, and won a giant Tweety Bird stuffed animal.
So you argument is that you're right because even a moron thinks the same thing you do? That's brillant reasoning. And Rod Allen is a great announcer. He's a little off the wall at times, but he obviously knows the players well and is entertaining to listen to.
without mixing up your location. Maybe moron was a little harsh, but he definitely plays a character. A character that reoutinely uses phrases like "Country Strong" and "I see you, Big Fella." Dynamite analysis, that.
Rod Allen has more baseball knowledge in his pinkie than we could ever hope to aquire. When watching the broadcasts I am continuously impressed with his knowledge of the nuances of the game. He regularly predicts hit and runs, steals, ect. before the pitch, and I hear him regularly talking about prospects on the opposing team all the way down to single-A. His gig traveling half the year with the Tigers around the country (with a nice break in the offseason), schmoozing with players in the clubhouse before and after games, collecting a nice paycheck, and talking about baseball as his job is a pretty ridiculously sweet gig that he would not have if he wasn't immensely knowledgable about baseball. If Rod Allen is an idiot what does that make you?
And fans have been known to, on occasion, second guess decisions and/or the performance of the teams they follow.
If you second guessed Rod's opinion on a particular matter, I would agree you were just stating your opinion like any other fan. You said he was an idiot, and I guarantee you when it comes to knowing baseball he's far from it. You sound like an idiot for calling someone else an idiot who is far more knowledgable than you are, and it doesn't make you a fan for calling him such.
Enough with the double plays already!
Tigers are a double play machine today.
Nice backwards sliding catch by Raburn!
Flowers solo HR 2-0 Sox.
Wilk has given us a decent start so far, after 5 innings. Just got to get some hits now, as so far this series the Sux pitchers have somehow shut us down. And I thought offense was our strong suit...
Jackson trying to get something started!! Just beat legged out a double.
Actshon
that hit Wilk.
I don't think I've ever seen that happen before. I've seen guys get hit in the dugout, but never one that hit the starting pitcher, who would be going back out there the next inning, directly on his pitching arm. Crazy.
Despite my earlier criticism, he was pitching well. So to get hit in the pitching arm is unfortunate. Why couldn't it have hit Inge? Oh yeah, because Inge struggles to make contact.
A foul tip nailed him while he was in the dugout. Really crappy luck there.
that foul ball in the middle of the inning hit Wilk
Troublesome inning there. Lucky to only have 1 run given up. 3-0 Sox.
...and proceeds to strike out. Anyone have a number I can call to get ahold of DD with a suggestion, regarding whom to send down when Inge is re-activated?
Danny Worth has already been optioned to make room for Inge and are you really going to judge a player based on less than 30 at bats?
but on what he doesn't do with the bat the first few months of nearly every season. Rayburn just doesn't seem to have the right stuff upstairs to get off to a decent start at the plate. Everyone says he has the ability to hit, but why keep on expecting it to translate to on the field year-after-year when we see the same results year-after-year?
And he doesn't even have a good enough glove anywhere on the field to justify carrying him along until he starts hitting late in the season.
Um, you could at least spell his name correctly. It is Raburn.
Raburn won't hit (when it counts for something, anyway) in the bigs regardless of how his name is spelled!
Yeah, that Troy Woolfork guy sucked too, amiright?
Raburn has more baseball talent than about 6.84 billion people. But lets focus in on the fact that maybe 150 people are better than him (and also the fact that the Tigers don't have anyone else to play instead of him)!
then attack every person with a different opinion than yours? I guess you haven't changed.
Way to contribute.
Yup, heaven forbid we spell people's names correctly!
latest in the string. So long, man. I wish you all the best.
Good thing mgopoints don't really matter!
And the lead singer for Phish gets pulled. Ah shit.
of his consistant terribleness
Yeah, it is really Schlereth's fault that the offense left the bases loaded twice without scoring a run. (heavy eye roll)
He is a long reliever that normally isn't asked to protect a lead. His career whip is 1.5 and last year it was 1.367. He isn't great but he does his job. Every team has not great options at the tail end of their bullpen and are forced to run out guys that are going to give up runs during the course of the season. I'm sorry you don't like the Tiger's option.
Based on ~3 innings pitched? Really?!
Tigers send Clete Thomas down and activate Brandon Inge - who is supposedly set to start at 2B tomorrow.
Are you kidding me? Clete Thomas had potential. I love Inge, but when is it time to just say this isn't working out?
I forgot to add the important part of that transaction: Minnesota claims Thomas.
