OT - Tigers Night Game 09/29
3 runs so far may be enough with Verlander on the mound. That double by Ordonez (with two on, something no one could do earlier today) makes me really wish that Leyland had played him earlier today. Little by little I am losing faith in Jim's management...

Yeah, I'm not really sure why Cletus was in there for the early game.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:16 PM ^
Clete was batting a career .500 against Blackburn so it was not an arbitrary decision by Leyland. He just played the odds and it didn't pay off.

He seems to only trust him vs lefties at this point.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:00 PM ^
Ordonez hasn't started a game against a right-handed pitcher in many moons. He's been doing so well because of the favorable match ups Leyland has been playing him to. Still nice to see a big hit with two outs as the first game today was unbearable to watch in those situations.

I hate it when people bag on Leyland. He's a good manager.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:29 PM ^
People who "bag on Leyland" actually watch the games. He didn't "turn them around." He went along for the ride with a very good team that made the World Series, then really, really underperformed the next two years. And the only reason they're still in first place year is the dreadful division. This team would be 3rd or 4th place in almost every division. And we've lost too many games because of his questionable decisions, which are usually by-the-book. Don't get me wrong, I really want to see him and this team win, but he really isn't a good manager at this point in his career.

Who would you prefer, that the Tigers would have a realistic chance of getting?
September 30th, 2009 at 9:48 AM ^
Not a single one offered an alternative.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:45 PM ^
people watching baseball games does not make them knowledgeable. Leyland is in the unique position of blowing all the games the tigers lose and having nothing to do with the games they win.
September 29th, 2009 at 9:29 PM ^
Look at his track record and what he has done. A baseball man of his stature doesn't just get out managed or make fundamental mistakes time and time again. Is he human and does he make mistakes? Absolutley. More often than not he puts his teams in a position to win as manager.

I found an absolutely terrible stream of the game, someone has their video camera pointed at their tv with a little kid crying in the background but whatever, it's better than nothing I guess. If there is a better one out there please, please, please let me know.

Well never mind, looks like the steam is down now.

Verlander throws a 96 MPH fastball up and in then comes back with a knee buckling curve. His stuff is electric so far tonight.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:33 PM ^
woooooooooo Brandon Inge(?)!!!!!
September 29th, 2009 at 8:59 PM ^
THAT BALL TOUCHED THE FAN'S HAND, IT'S AUTOMATICALLY DEAD AT THAT POINT!!!! AARRGGGHHHH I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IDIOT UMPIRE
Although, Laird would have just screwed up anyways, but still...
September 29th, 2009 at 9:02 PM ^
I couldn't believe it, it hit the fan's hand, then hit the back of the fence and went into Mauer's glove. The ump was standing right in front of it and still called it out...

How do you get picked off!

September 29th, 2009 at 9:38 PM ^
HOMERRRRRUNNNNN twice today is clutch for him Go Grandy Go
September 29th, 2009 at 9:43 PM ^
Now Rodney can give up a solo home run before completing the save (yes I'm knocking on wood)
September 29th, 2009 at 9:43 PM ^
No more runs. If it's still a save situation, Rodney has a shot at finishing this off.
September 29th, 2009 at 9:46 PM ^
Minnesota is a tough and worthy adversary. Buckle up!
September 29th, 2009 at 9:51 PM ^
big strikeout right there for Rodney
September 29th, 2009 at 9:53 PM ^

2 defensive misplays by our two best defensive players. why can't this be easy?

By definition a Rodney save can't be easy

September 29th, 2009 at 10:18 PM ^
Never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never count out the damn Twinkies, until the final out. Sheesh. That damn Denard Span single was typical Minnesota.
We go against Pavano tomorrow. So......let's just say we damn well better win on Thursday. I said before the series I'd be happy with a split and I'm sticking to it. As soon as Minny leaves Detroit, they get to say hi to Zack Greinke.
September 29th, 2009 at 11:56 PM ^
We will smack Pavano around tomorrow. Mark my words.
September 30th, 2009 at 9:19 AM ^
That was a huge win!! We win the next two and it's on to the playoffs.
