I have both on. Tvs right next to each other. Tigers with the sound. Lets do this!
OT- Tigers-A's game 2.
Tigers bats better come to life!
I like seeing him run it up there at 95 here in the first. Start dropping that deuce and it's going to be a long game for the A's.
I had to mute the color on my TV. For some reason the A's uniforms seemed really really bright.
Solid start. Miguel has his third hit of the series already. Have yet to see him pull a ball, but he's smoked several straight back through the box, which is good to see.
Solid first inning from JV, good fastball command early.
Well, no runs yet, but we've made Gray work and throw nearly 40 pitches through 2 innings. It'd be nice to put a couple runs on the board the second time through the lineup.
They at least turned the lineup over so Jackson gets the leadoff again.
looking strong tonight. just need a run or two!
We need some. We have not scored in 10 innings. Come on boys!
If Torii's ass hurts so much about that brushback pitch, maybe he should have lined the next pitch right up the box and off the pitcher's forehead. Instead he strikes out. He lost the mental game right there.
Meh, not a big deal.
Torii Hunter is a veteran among veterans. He'll be fine. The kid is throwing well but what Leyland said in the interview is true: If the Tigers get him to throw that curve ball in the strike zone, someone will put it in the seats.
Game is mostly uneventful, which is perfectly fine by me. As long as we just manage the 1 run I am happy with boring innings.
Poor swings from Prince and Victor in good hitters' counts. We're going to need a better approach to score.
And you gotta love this ump's punchout.
JV is straight dealing. All these K's are racking up the pitch count early, but it's JV. His limit is in the 130s if he's going well.
Maybe a little early to give up an out, but with Don Kelly, maybe a bunt?
EDIT: Hit and run... I like the call, especially knowing that a fastball was likely. Good stuff, now we need a base hit.
crap. Took us right out of the inning.
Wasted opportunity with runners at the corners. Ugh.
What. The. Fuck.
For the love of God please tell me that Iglesias went on his own. And get your shit together Jackson.
Fucking Jackson with the golden sombrero. Just have make contact in that situation.
This game is shaping up. You have a slow pitch softball team trying to play small ball. JV is great but the pitch count is already elevated.
I hate it when JV tries to check runners. Seems like he throws it away a lot.
Nice pitching out of a jam. We need some offense. Got the big bats coming up.
Awful freaking AB's tonight. 14 straight innings with no runs, and Fielder can't elevate a ball to save his life.
Fire Lloyd McClendon for fuck's sake.
JV doesn't even get to sit down between innings.
This is gonna to start feeling really shitty when we hear to the bullpen, right?
By last nights game- the throw beat him. So he is out automatically!
is it normal to have to listen to 100% biased announcers for a fucking playoff game? These guys can't WAIT to stroke the A's players in the locker room post-game. Last night was the same.
WOOOOOO WHAT A STRIKE OUT JV!!!!!!!!!
Verlander's night is done, pitched one hell of a game, it's be a shame if we can't get him the win.
for JV. That was some clutch pitching.
Another hit for Donny Kelly!
When the Don is only one producing
Love Donnie Baseball legging out an infield hit.
Are you kidding me, Jackson?
Who the fuck is this Gray dude?
many close pitches are you gonna take with two strikes. Fucking Jackson.
This is beyond irritating.
Time to see if the pen can get it done for us. Well at least enough for our offense to remove their collective heads from the ass
Chill out there buddy. They are very much in the game and have a chance to take the first two on the road against a very good baseball team.
If we scored a run before this game ended.
I would also like it if we showed some plate discipline.
I would also like it if Albuquerque did not enter the game.
Agree on both counts. I felt like I was getting hives when I saw Al Al warming up in the bullpen
Haven't scored in 16 innings.
We get it. Both the Tigers and A's have scored in 1 inning each in these two games. Welcome to playoff baseball.
Playoff baseball with the Tigers. Every other series has had a ton of run scoring. I'd be willing to give Oakland pitchers more credit if the Tigers hadn't been so shitty at the plate all September already.
The other series don't have nearly the high level of pitching that this series does. The Tigers and A's have arguably the two best starting staffs in the playoffs.
Not saying the Tigers are hitting well, but I'm not freaking out.
Each team has only had 1 scoring inning so far. This series has been completely dominated by pitchers so far.
It's the playoffs. This shit happens a lot
Sure could have used that sac fly a few innings ago...
Not walking Lawrie for the dp try? Ok...
Uh oh, Al Al coming in.
Well, I hate to armchair manage, but I was hoping Porcello was going to start the 8th. Al Al scares me shitless, but if he throws strikes he can get a K or a groundball.
Why wouldn't you go with the guy with the +50% GB rate in this scenario.
This is not going to end well.
Keep him for long relief situations. If we already had the lead it'd be different.
What? Wouldn't we see Veras then Benoit in that situation?
But if we're up one on the road with a chance to take a commanding lead in the series I'd understand bringing in Porcello to try to get the double play. Having already taken one on the road and with the game tied I think you hold off on Porcello in case Sanchez or Fister have a rough outing.
Here it comes for Al for kissing the ball last year.
For gods sake the A' s pitcher has a pube 'stache
I get that Oakland has an outlaw identity but take a trip to the barber. The look looks anything but organic.
AlAl gives me palpatations.
If Al does manage to get Donaldson it's going to be a challenge against Moss considering we just used our only useful lefty.
Might be the reason to go with the K pitcher (AlAl) instead of Porcello.
u mad bro? I mean, a swing like that at the dugout could bring down the whole Coliseum...
Whew!! Unclenched for a few moments now
Back to back K's!
2 quality ABs and produce a run.
So I can go to bed
AlAl!!!! Jim Leyland!!! Playoff baseball!!!
This is 90% fun, 10% terrifying. Or is it 10% fun, 90% terrifying?
It's a little bit Al Montoya starting in the Frozen Four, a little bit Garrett Rivas lining up for a game-winning field goal, and a whole lot of nicotine. This shit is trying to kill you, and you know it the whole time.
to run into one.
AlAl doing his best to restore my faith in him. Show me something son!!
So does Oakland import these trashy frans from Philly specifically for the playoffs? Or do they just show up on their own accord?
The hippies are Giants fans...
Can BalSuck my balls.
Ugh too easy, too easy.
Health, should he be benched? I mean, he's nothing like his normal self right now.
I was just thinking the same thing. If the guy can't swing the bat he is not a threat and he's obviously not healthy.
that's an option, which is unfortunate. He's really not even having good at bats at this point.
He does have three hits in the series...
EDIT: Sorry, two.
Ya, we are just in a very tough situation this postseason. We are going to have to earn everything it seems
He's still at least holding it together defensively, and you have to take the chance that Miggy will do what Miggy does and hit a weird pitch a really, really long way.
Because the alternative is... ?
Santiago at his best is nowhere near the upside of a gimpy Miggy.
This is a fair question but I would rather he was hitting instead of Prince Fielder or Austin Jackson and we can't bench them.
You know practically nobody (except Infante) that was on the 2006 team is still on the team today, correct?
Also, the Tigers, despite the recent skid, still had the highest team batting average in the league this year. They also had the third fewest strikeouts of any team in the bigs this year, best of post-season teams.
Yes, this sucks. They've run into some great pitching. It happens in the playoffs. They're up 1-0 on the road and could very well go up 2-0.
Breath and relax.
While I agree, don't you think they've had an awful approach tonight? Hunter gets to the plate and is already in an 0-2 count, Prince is driving everything in the dirt and Jackson has 4 k's. Credit the A's pitching but the plate appearances have left a lot to be desired, especially at the top of the lineup.
Sure, but the Tigers aren't the Red Sox. They are an agressive team at the plate. You don't change that suddenly, especially when its been so successful.
AJax had a complete shit night.
Prince's swings were out of control, especially considering he actually got ahead in the count in most ABs.
Infante looked stupid his first AB.
Avila had a bad 1-pitch AB.
But I didn't think many of the other ABs were that noteworthy. The other pitcher did pitch very well and he had some wicked stuff. Sometimes you tip your cap and move on.
The only thing I'm really, really upset about was the strikeout-throw out double play.
and you know they had the same hitting coach then maybe they need a change in how to aproach at the plate in my opinion cause with this offense you should not lose 1-0 8 times in a season and be shut out 13 times
I think this is harder. Just because I have no idea how our pen keeps us in this game and/or how we are gonna get some offense
Victor with the first good swing for the Tigers since the early innings.
Between the tigers not being able to hit jack shit and northwestern pissing the game away...I'm quite angry.
Hitting a robust .180 in the playoffs for his career.
Has Prince ever actually hit that pitch around his eyeballs? It's a guaranteed swing and miss every time.
Don't forget his stellar defense either
Just flipped to UW vs Stanford. I can't wait for the christmas tree helmet to die.
And here it comes.
Won't end well
Ugh our pen is garbage? I hate my life
We are fucked
FUCK THIS NIGHT
We have to score runs, and early. We need our closer to go out so we just have to hold a lead.
Meant our starter going out...
By a team whose DH is Seth Smith. Seth freaking Smith.
Still keep instinctively thinking he's the Michigan PR/KR from the mid-90s...
What are we doing? Why load the bases?
Force out at home.
You're not alone. I don't get it either.
Sets up the force out everywhere.
Ensures a force out at home instead of eating the ball to load the bases and stop the run from scoring.
and providing below average fielding. Not good.
Now we bring in porcello... Worth a shot
Someone who is smart- why wouldn't Rick come in to start the 8th? We would have a guy who can give us multiple innings until we can get a run.
The Tigers have been held scoreless in 33 of their last 34 innings.
You don't say?
Shouldn't have gone back to AlAl for the 9th. You got two big strikeouts, call that a win.
Tigers need to find some offense in Motown. I can see us going 35 straight scoreless innings, unfortunately.
So you're close.
I'm talking about adding 18 more scoreless to the last 17 we've had. 35 scoreless to close the series as we lose 2 more 1-0 games at home. Unfortunately, with the way we're swinging, that's quite possible.
That would be disaster considering how "great" we hit as a team during the season.
I know. I hate hearing that we led the majors in batting average or scored so many runs. This team was held to 3 or less in over 60 games this season. We also scored more than 10 or more 18 times!!! This team seems to be all or nothing most of the time and right now they're scuffling. Hopefully some home cooking gets them going, but if Santa wants to give an early present, a new groin/abdomen for Miggy would be nice.
Well fuck everything.
Fantastic. We have to win Monday.
Got a split on the road. I'll take it.
FUCK A DUCK
Damn. Wasted a gem by Verlander.
Only if they had won this game! This team has not been able to hit the past month! I doubt they will win this series now!
JV gives up 3 fuckin hits and we can't win. Jesus.
Did the A's win the world series or a game in the ALDS?
Take it easy, it's only the second time they've seen the team all year.
What does this mean?
This the first time you've seen a playoff bandwagon?
I think he was talking about how the actual team started celebrating on the field like there was champagne ready and waiting for them to pop in the clubhouse.
Depressing game. Verlander pitches a gem and we can't plate a single fucking run. 3 if our 4 hits were of the infield variety that's quite telling how bad we were tonight.
and to add to it 2 of those 3 were by don kelly a reserve who should not play most nights so i thought i add a littlke more to the disappointment
to second guess this, offense is what it is, if we don't get extra basehits, we don't win. ran into a good pitcher. should not have started Al in the 9th, like someone said above, he gave you two big outs in the 8th, should have started the 9th with someone else. coming back to motown.
Momentum doesn't exist in baseball, Scherzer certainly showed that in game 1.
well. fucking awesome. i've been defending this offense so much the last few weeks, but this is ridiculous, and I cannot any more. We haven't hit a home run in 7 games. Absolutely pathetic.
Since Alex Avila's first inning single off two gloves to plate the 3rd run of the inning in Game 1 the Tigers are batting 10 for 58 or .172
Since clinching the AL Central the Tigers are batting .189 with 39 hits in 159 AB's, even taking into account the complete meaningles nature of the Miami series and getting no-hit, this is pathetic.
What a total waste of Verlander's talent. If you can't score runs and the relief pitchers suck then it doesn't really matter who the starting pitcher. They should have had Don Kelly pitch and save Verlander for when it may have mattered. Either that or they are going to have to throw complete games and screw the ptich count.
