Tigers and Indians square off tonight.
Game one of a three game series in Cleveland.
Fister takes the mound for Detroit
Masterson is on for Cleveland
Anyone know where I can find a stream of the game?
I am surprised by all the empty seats. I guess the Tribe fans aren't feelin' this team
The forecast called for bad weather.
Kipnis diving play just robbed V-Mart of a single and an RBI. Good to see the tigers putting good swings on Masterson so far.
if the tigers strand as many baserunners as they have the past couple series then they'll lose tonight.
OUCH that hurts, never seen a 6'8'' pitcher do the splits while covering first base on a 3-6-1 double play
Game is currently in a rain delay Top 3rd tied 2-2.
I love hour long Rain Delays
that ripped through Metro Detroit earlier causing garages to catch fire in Roseville.
Any word whether it will start back up?
Mario Impemba estimates 9:45 restart time. Any guess on who'll be pitching?
Below vs. Durbin
prolly the internet
Ex Tiger Chad Durbin on the hill for the Indians now... I think the Tigers really come out ahead in this. Get Masterson out of the game after only 2 innings!!!
Yeah, the delay certainly favors the Tigers, but we need to take advantage of it and put some runs on the board.
ball is not carrying at all
Ha, guy who got the foul ball to left had a Heat jersey on. I thought that was illegal in Cleveland
12 up 12 down for Below. Man it'd be nice to put some runs on the board, but if anything Below is saving our bullpen for the rest of the series. Cleveland is on their second reliever.
The Indians are going to win in walk-off fashion.
Indians blow a suicide squeeze in the eighth and the Tigers get out of the inning. To the ninth we go with the score still 2-2.
Please, someone hit the ball.
Holy failed squeeze, Batman...
Good game eh guys?
Soo did anyone else notice how the Brantley put the bat in front of a running Avilia?
Edit: Guess Rod Allen did. There must be something in the air that makes people in Ohio classless d-bags.
Not sure if I agree with not pinch hitting for Santiago with Betemiet (sp) on the bench but if this works I will take the neg.
Edit: Well it didn't work out, and Santiago weakly grounds out to first... now to NOT see a walk off tonight.
if it happens I called it. I sure hope it doesn't though. so many men left on base. Coke is pitching though so that may be happening...
In defense of Leyland in putting Coke in, the lefties have dominated Cleveland tonight. Also if he puts in Valverde people bitch that he has been terrible in non-save situations, and Benoit has struggled as of late.
Also the Leyland haters would have come out the woodwork had Jimmy orchestrated the failed suicide squeeze in the 8th.
Cleqveland fans had no idea what happened on that first foul tip. They were still cheering.
That is a funny crowd they got there in Cleveland tonight. It may be improper to say about the Indians and Chief Wahoo but the natives seem restless
Is the girl on the left supposed to be dancing?
She's been dancing since 10pm... someone got some sugar past bed time..
That girl dancing behind the plate is really starting to piss me off!
That + the Drum makes this the most annoying game of the year...especially if the Tigers end up losing
Don't hate, she is probably a M recruit's little sister. Dancing and texting at the ballpark; good times!
WELCOME BACK AL-AL!! Didn't realize he had been reactivated!
OT what is up with Michael Jordan and the Hitler mustache. I hate that thing.
Geez, that was a late time given, the ball was almost out of his hand! Doesn't matter, he got him!
I want a Kenny Power's "YOU'RE F*ING OUT"
This game is actually getting annoying to watch. I need a sammich.
9 consecutive scoreless innings.
Exciting... in a painfully boring way.
It doesn't seem like the pitching is doing THAT well. it just seems like neither can get consecutive hits.
This game started 6 hours ago! Someone needs to end this soon....
Might have to finish this one tomorrow. Maybe Porcello can win two tomorrow like Wilbur Wood did against the Tribe back in 73. Wilbur was 13-3 after 40 games with the White Sox that season.
May 28, 1973 - Chicago's rubber-armed knuckleballer Wilbur Wood wins the completion of a suspended game‚ allowing 2 hits and an unearned run in 5 innings‚ winning 6-3 on Dick Allen's 3 run homerun in the 21st. Wood then shuts down Cleveland on 4 hits in the regularly scheduled contest. After the White Sox' first 40 games‚ Wood's record is a remarkable 13-3.
Could Fister be used in the bullpen (if necessary) tomorrow? He hardly pitched today..
Ok, Boesch with the lead off walk. Dirks up and he's NOT bunting???
And he grounds into a fielder's choice.
Whoa how the hell did you get to Bolivia? Must've missed something.
You really have no clue, do you? Raburn only has two ABs this game.
HALOL, I'm 23.
And re: biased - I criticized a game decision just one inning ago. If you're going to bitch about Raburn being in the game for too many ABs, you should know how many ABs he's actually been in the game for.
Ha, um why? Is actually analyzing data and analytically approaching situations something that is not to be done by persons in their 20s?
My attitude? Like I said, I look for reason in situations. I even tried to engage with you about the reasonings for not using Ordonez and Betemit.
You condescendingly suggested I was old. On a Michigan blog with a high percentage of Mich students and alums I threw out my school and grad date to give you a sense of who I was. I take it from your response that you don't go to school at Michigan. I could have made a snide remark earlier about how I knew from your attitude you were not the most level-minded person, but that would have been arrogant and just plain douchey...
Whatever, I'm sure you get to be all-knowing and righteous about Leyland since the Tigers lost. Good for you, I'm sure this game was fun to watch since it gave you so much ammunition to bash on Leyland on the internet with. I'm going to finish my beer, be fairly happy I enjoyed an entertaining baseball game, and look forward to tomorrow's.
I'm going to have to agree with Tom here, "old fucks" probably wouldn't have a character from Futurama as their picture. Way to keep it classy here though.
since resuming play, the balls just doesn't seem to be carrying at all, I think that might have something to do with the absence of runs
Look at Miggy leave his feet! That and Boesch's diving play, some very nice defense to go along with great pitching from the pen.
Being a night shifter I just got to lunch here and to my surprise the game is still going. What a grab Cabrera just made at first! Saved a hit for sure.
I love watching Cabrerra play beisbol. Looked like Andres Galaragga on that one
Benoit looking great with that K to end the 13th. Gotta go to Pauley now, right?
If we put Pauley in we might as well concede the ballgame...
Good baserunning by Peralta, I would have been doubled up on that all day.
Pauley in for the 14th. Strikes out Kipnis on 3 pitches for out number 1. Good start, but Asdrubal is the big batter this inning.
EDIT: Ugh... walks him on 4. Well, no doubles depth. Hafner won't bunt so Pauley needs to go after him and try to get a K.
Well, you need to keep someone on the bench - that guy is probably Betemit. Magglio isn't exactly hitting the cover off the ball, but I'd imagine if there's a RISP with Dirks up we could see him.
This is going to be moot b/c Guillen couldn't keep that ball in the infield.
Check it tomorrow for Purcey.
I want to strangle Leland. Three times the tigers get the leadoff hitter on. Three times Leland refuses to bunt and the batter doesn't move the runner over. But when Vmart singles, coach needlessly takes him out for a pinch-runner. So now the team's best hitter has been replaced by its worst (Raburn) and Avila has to catch 14+ innings. If the Tigers lose, it's all on Leland.
Big man of you to post this now that the tribe has the bases loaded...
But seriously a couple things:
Why Dirks didn't bunt: They would have intentionally walked Cabrera after that. So you're giving up an out and your giving up you're best hitter.
Why Guillen didn't bunt: HALOL.
I don't remember the third situation.
I posted it before the Indians batted.
When you're not getting any hits, you play small-ball. Get a runner on second and now you've got two shots to win it with a single. This scenario offers the best odds in a pitching duel. Few coaches would dispute this. Alternatively, given Santana's low sb percentages, try to steal second. The only thing you shouldn't do is leave the guy at first and keep hacking away against pitchers you haven't hit all night.
I agree completely. At first I was aghast that the Tigers didn't bunt when Boesch got the lead off walk and Dirks was up (you can see it in a post above).
However, then I thought about it. If Dirks bunts Boesch over, then the Indians for sure walk Cabrera. So the decision comes down to giving up the out and letting Raburn and Peralta try to get the run in from second, OR not giving up the out and giving Cabrera a chance to hit. Leyland obviously chose the latter, which I think is a reasonable choice, even if you disagree with it. Had Raburn not been hitting for VMart, I'm sure they would have bunted.
When Guillen had a chance to bunt I don't think anyone expected that. He's got just as good a chance of hitting the ball out of the park as he does of getting down a quality bunt.
I still don't remember the third situation - it must have been earlier in the game.
Yeah, I haven't moderated a single post in this thread. But keep thinking I'm the only one that thinks you're contributions to Tigers threads are unneccessary.
I find that really odd since leland's tactical decisions obviously and consistently failed. Runners didn't get into scoring position and our best hitter was replaced by out worst, who hardly made contact all night.
-1 for incorrect your/you're usage. +1 for bender avatar with wings. +1 because I'm drunk. End result = +1 because I cannot give more than that
I actually really enjoy his comments on the Tigers.
Well fuck. I was going to finish season two of Dexter tonight and I stayed up for that...
It kind of looked like Fukudome leaned into it
Agree. First thing I thought. But the ump can't call anything on that right? If he obviously leans into it, what happens?
The batter is supposed to get out of the way if he can. If he trys to get hit then its a strike.
Walkoff hit by pitch. Worst ending to a game ever.
Don't forget that there's been TWO walk-off balks this year. That would have been brutal after 14 innings and a 2 hr rain delay.
I refuse to believe that just happened.
Why did we load the bases?
a force out at every base, so we could get the guy who is running home on contact out.
It's only bad if a pitcher accidentally walks or hits a batter.
But theres no way that would happen (/s)
Tigers waste every chance in the world. What a waste of time, and of course now I can't fall asleep.......smh. Has Carlos done anything productive since he show-boated to Weaver?
Walk off.....walk? Sweet.
