In one of those fun trades-after-the-trade-deadline, They gave up Cole Nelson and a player to be named later:

Real mature bro. Rafalski? I mean I get the others.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:12 PM ^
Did you really just refer to him as Fagglio? Did I just log on to Bucknuts?
August 15th, 2011 at 3:15 PM ^
I've seen him referred to as singlio as well

He would have to actually get hits and being the 3rd in the line up day in and day out has really started to piss me off....wtf leyland .....I love mags but he needs to be the 8th or 9th batter i dont think we should trade him....he needs to retire a Tiger....This Year!!
August 15th, 2011 at 3:12 PM ^
You would think for someone with so much hatred for those players, you would know that Rafalski has retired also right?
August 15th, 2011 at 3:37 PM ^
I do realize this...hence the 1 down
Don't get me wrong, Rafalski had a nice career and I've heard he's a great guy which most hockey players are. It doesn't mean I have to be a fan of him just because he's a Red Wing. I wanted him to do well, he was just extremely soft which I'm not a fan of.
Mags career has been done for years...But for some reason DD loves handing him free money.
I can pick whoeva I want for my unhealthy hatreds...
August 15th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
hate that you are a Michigan fan.
You are embarrassing.
*This is obviously in response to bing24.
August 16th, 2011 at 8:11 AM ^
Who hasn't heard him called that before? Give me a break...I got your back bing...
August 16th, 2011 at 2:20 AM ^
Considering you know Rafalski is retired (apparently), then that would be 2 down. Unless you decided to rant about how Young is better and Magglio won't play for no reason at all.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:17 PM ^
You're doing a really good RCMB poster impression! The ignorance is so spot on! And "Fagglio", how clever!
August 15th, 2011 at 3:19 PM ^
Magglio's lack of production should earn him NO ire from Tiger fans. He's not dogging it, he's not playing below himself, he's just old.
His signing back in 2005 has paid a lot of dividends for this organization and I will remember him fondly.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:42 PM ^
Some sentiment from BRCE, the uber-pragmatist? You caught me off guard with that one.
August 15th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
Your post is disrespectful on many levels. I hope it is deleted soon. Comment was in reply to the bing24 post.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
makes you sound really intelligent. I hope your post gets deleted soon.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:16 PM ^
Bringing in D'mitri Young worked out so well for Dombrowski, he figured why not bring in his younger more volatile brother.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
Because it's a short-term commitment for a talented player and we currently have a corner outfielder with 11 XBH who our idiot manager refuses to not only bench, but move out of the 3-hole. This is DD's way of telling Leyland how to do his job.
It is completely understandable why Detroit would want him. The question is why Minnesota didn't, but it's come to my attention that he was in the last year of his deal.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:35 PM ^
You should be sentenced to listen to Leyland's pre-game show. The man is very knowledable and canny in his observations, listening to Leyland might disabuse you of your silly childish rants.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:36 PM ^
Please forgive my dumb question, but is this trade like the one with matt stairs in 06', to where he can't play in the playoffs or is that deadline still later on?
August 15th, 2011 at 3:42 PM ^
I believe the deadline for acquiring players that can play in the postseason is August 31.
August 15th, 2011 at 4:35 PM ^
Players just need to be on the major league roster before they expand to 40 in September. So August 31 is the deadline.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:39 PM ^
the player to be named latter will be Delmon Young.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:39 PM ^
I'll take it. We gave up next to nothing, and, as long as Boesch's thumb doesn't turn into something more serious, improves our outfield overall.
I've liked the moves DD has made so far this year. We've improved our overall production at 3B, improved the overall effectiveness of our rotation, added depth to our bullpen and now our outfield too, and what have we given up in return? Not a whole lot. Nothing super glitzy or glamorous, but I'd say that our team is more solid now than it was at the beginning of the year.
Side note: it's little punks like bing24 who really make me wish that negs work. Unbelievably moronic. To all you other teenagers (and some select adults) on the board, just remember: don't be an ass, show some class.
August 15th, 2011 at 3:43 PM ^
Boesch didn't look too bad in his pinch hit at bat, so I don't think he's going on the slc. I think he will take the third slot from Mags, and I love it. Finally a guy that can get some production from a guy playing with the luxury of hitting before the best player in the AL, Cabrera. This should have happened way earlier, or at least move the guy down in the lineup.

Will Rhymes to Toledo per 97.1
August 15th, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
I'm guessing this means more Raburn at 2B.
He's a good second-half hitter, he's a good second-half hitter, he's a good second-half hitter...
August 15th, 2011 at 4:05 PM ^
Too bad no one can ask about the lineup. I guess we are stuck with Raburn at 2nd with Rhymes being sent down.
August 15th, 2011 at 4:20 PM ^
If it gets Maggs out of the 3 hole i'll take it all day.
August 15th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
agreed, they should take a lesson from the Yankees on telling Jorge just isn't an everyday player anymore. atleast drop him to 8th in lineup.
August 15th, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
The Yankees brought Posada back as a role player. Dombrowski brought Ordonez back as his starting RF and 3 hitter. They needed someone to replace Ordonez.
August 15th, 2011 at 6:30 PM ^
I agree, Magglio was expected to be a bigger contributor, Posada was still expected to be the everyday DH, not just a role player. If it wasn't for the emergence of Granderson this season, Posada's struggles this year probably would have been more of a spotlight.
August 15th, 2011 at 5:29 PM ^
Not giving up a lot I guess you may as well take a flyer on the talent, but he's brutal in the field even by the low standards of major league left fielders and his plate discipline sucks. He's had one decent year in his career, and reverted back to being a replacement-level or worse guy again this year.
August 15th, 2011 at 10:05 PM ^
Seems like a very Dombrowski acquisition. Guy clearly doesn't think much of D metrics. Or has no idea they exist. The other hilarious thing is if you ding the hell out of Maggs with your age adjustment, he still ends up about even with Delmon in projections.
August 15th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
Look this is a great pickup if u put blinders on and not look at his history of being a "knucklehead" I'm sure u would agree. We have a veteran locker him he will be alright
August 15th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
Learn it, love it, use it.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
Like several people, I was not a fan of the bat-throwing incident. Completely moronic thing to do.
Now that he's here, I think he could be a contributor in the outfield and at the plate. He is, after all, hitting .313 since coming off the DL in June. We could use a .300-plus hitter in the 3-spot.
August 15th, 2011 at 7:19 PM ^
Young just homered on his first at bat.
August 15th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
You play well we love you, you stink, well you know the rest. Magglio is terrible this season hitting and fielding. His reps should of been cut weeeeeks ago and never should have been the #3 hitter in this lineup.
August 15th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
can Delmon Young play right away or does he have to wait to play later on.
August 15th, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
He played tonight (and homered).
