Sox lost tonight, but Verlander getting jacked up by the almighty Royals. Here's hoping we can outslug them for the remaining 6 innings.

What are your thoughts on AL and NL Cy Young this year?

I think they said Verlander hasn't given up this many runs/hits since 2006.

AL Cy Young has to be David Price. He doesn't get as much hype because he plays in Tampa, but he's been consistently dominant this year. Sabathia has been injured too much. Weaver would get my runner-up vote.

All Price has on Hernandez right now is wins.  And Seattle has the worst offense in the AL.

Price has fewer IP, higher WHIP, higher ERA, fewer Ks, etc.

Weaver is your runner up?  I'm going to go ahead and assume that wins is the only stat that matters to you for the Cy Young.

Johnny Cueto picks. As far as Verlander it is definatly strange to see this many runs on the board, to be fair though some of the hits were seeing eye hits. Looks like he has righted the ship a little the last couple of innings, hopefully they can pull this out to get to within a game.

On a positive side note, it is encouraging to see Delmon Young heat up the last couple of weeks. Somebody has to step up and take ownership of  5th spot, for this team to get deep into the playoffs.

team that swept Chicago a couple of series ago. Obviously this is type of game you should win, but the Royals aren't  quite bad enough to be an automatic win. They aren't the Houston Astros. You can say the game shouldn't have come down to that, but the fact of the matter is the game did come down to that home run, and it appears like the call was wrong.

They should paint the foul poles black, it would be much easier to see if the ball truly did disappear behind the pole if it was a darker color.

I usually don't hate on the team too much if at all, but they can't continue to let games like these slip away. It's getting to a point in the season where they shouldn't be giving away games anymore, the Sox have shown they aren't going anywhere and we can't seem to make up ground.

JV was awful tonight, sure there were a few seeing eye singles but he was ahead of the batters most of the night and couldn't put them away, that's on him.

Phil Coke cannot be used in high leverage situations anymore, Leyland shouldn't throw him out there during close games.

Coke is the only lefty available in the pen. Left handers are batting .263 against him this season, which isn't great, but certianly not as terrible as the .400 average for righties. Personally I would think about keeping the rightie in, but at the same time it is less than an ideal situation for the manager when you have only one lefty in your pen.

Still if they take the next two in this series and go into the Chicago series at 2 or so back, they are still in a decent position. They have taken something like 14 out 17 from Chicago at Comerica Park and swept them convincely last time at home.

In that replay that showed it was "foul" the ball moved about 5 feet every frame.  The ball could have shown up in one side of the pole, then showed up on the other side in the next frame, making it look foul eventhough it was just the ball's placement in the consecutive frames.

I'd bet money that that ball was a homerun.

The team isn't performing, eh? What makes you say that? How about this, in the 6 weeks since the All Star game, we have had 1 week where played > .500 baseball. Every other week has either been at or above .500, with only 1 week right at .500. And that's been against a tough schedule.

We're coming off a 6-3 homestand, after a 4-5 road trip. You should aim to play .500 ball on the road, and above .500 ball at home, and we've been doing that lately. As usual, your angst toward the Tigers is just a result of being butt-hurt about losing a game. It's baseball, they play 162 games, you're not going to win every one. And we're only 2 games out of first place, with one of the easiest remaining schedules to play.

Grow up.

Replacing a manager mid-season does no good for anyone involved, and the fact that you think it does shows how little baseball knowledge you have. Who comes in to replace him? I hate to break it to ya but Terry Francona is good friends with Leyland and it's going to show him up by taking his job from him with over a month to go. Gibson isn't coming here either, I'm certain he saw how we treated Trammel and having Tram on his current staff I don't envision this happeneing either.

People put so much blame on the guy that doesn't even play, how about for once blaming the people on the field that control the outcome of the game; JV was awful last night, just awful and he can't have that kind of start when his offense goes out and gives him a nice early cushion.

You can argue about some of Leylands in game decisions, hell we all do it and think we'd be better at his job, but he's a top clubhouse manager and he usually knows his stuff, and firing him does this team no good now or in the near future.

JV?  Real fans don't turn the game off in the second inning, particurly when it obvious from the get go that the Tigers offense was going to put some runs on the board. Like I said earlier in thread, it's a dissapointing loss but at the end of the day it's only still only one loss. The doom and gloom/bash Leyland posts in these threads, when the Tigers lose are really getting old.

It's amazing to me how quickly people bash Leyland.

The team wins on Sunday: "Woohoo! The Tigers rock! Scherzer is looking like an ace! Cabrera is totes the best player evar! And we have Cecil Jr.!"

The team loses on Tuesday: "Ermagherd, Lerlernd serks mern! Ah can't berlerv howr terrerber thers term ers! Fer Lerlernd!!!!!111 Ert's allr hers ferlt!!!11"

Let me give you some advice if you want to be a fan of a major league baseball team: embrace the losses. Your team is going to lose games. Sometimes, they are going to lose more than they win for certain periods of time. Your instinct will be to overreact to those losses, and feel like there's no way your team is ever going to improve, and think that all is lost. But fear not! Look at the big picture. Understand that the MLB season is a marathon and that teams go up and down. And be thankful that you root for a team that has, overall, won more games than they've lost.

Also, understand that firing the manager has little effect on the team's performance.
