Will Rhymes knocks in A Jax in the first inning and Tigers' newcomer Jhonny Peralta towers a home run over the Green Monster in his first at bat as a Tiger. I can dig it!
no, YOU'RE off topic
Good job on spelling Jhonny Peralta correctly!
It's not easy to do, haha.
The silence from the Peralta deal haters is deafening. Not every game will be like this but he'll pick up a good portion of the slack left by Inge's absence, I think.
And he should get some considerable time at shortstop once Inge is back. He can drive in runs.
He's better than anything we have at 3B or shortstop at the moment. From some of his quotes, it seems like he kind of gave up in Cleveland. Maybe a jolt is just what he needed.
Baseball-Reference.com says his 162 game average for his career is .264/.329/.422 with 18 HR, 80 RBI and 84 runs. I don't know that Santiago, Rhymes and Sizemore could reach those numbers combined this year, so he's definitely a boon to the team, and I think you're right that a move to contender will revitalize him a bit--he's a bit below his career averages in most of those stats and has been trending downwards the last few years, but for a while he was a pretty good offensive SS/3B, so there's hope there.
7 hits in 3 innings with only 2 runs on the board is sure to come back to bite us later in this ballpark. Especially when you load the bases with 1 out and come away with nothing.
Better than being no-hit by Matt Garza. Look on the bright side!
Wow. Peralta's got 2 bombs now.
Galarraga is DRILLED by a line drive off the bat of Youkilis.
Does not look good. He attempted to get up and could not.
EDIT: Now he's walking off under his own power, not showing any signs of limp. Could have dodged a bullet here.
Well, he walked off under his own power. Given the way our season has gone, they'll probably tell us after the game that they'll have to amputate his leg.
Beaned in the head and an amputated leg...yeah, that would fit with this season so far.
Poor strategy there to have Worth go on 1st movement. Chances are, you're not going to double up Jackson, so we ran ourselves out of an inning.
Will Rhymes' butthole hurts after that call.
Sweet Jesus Christ, that was a horrible decision by Lamont. Boesch was out by 40 feet, and I'm not exxagerating.
If the throw was cut off, I bet he would have scored. Bad inning on the basepaths, no matter how you slice it.
Rhymes got flat-out jobbed on that steal.
That... was... terrible.
Rod Allen: "Oh no, Gene."
Just wow, Lamont must have been asleep over at third! That or Leyland spit a sunflower seed in his eye when he was out there arguing
WTF Lamont....on a rocket to left don't ever send the runner....Geez. We should have 2 more runs this inning.
That ball was out of the LF's hand when Boesch was one step off of 3rd. You might have been able to cut that ball off twice and still nail Boesch at the plate. I haven't seen a worse decision by a 3rd base coach in quite some time.
That's a really interesting way to get 2 runs in, but I'll take it.
Surprised nobody's had anything to say about Laird nailing the basestealer at second. A good throw probably wouldn't have got the runner.
30 pitches and counting for a closer in a non save situation. DERP DERP.
I don't know what the hell Marlboro Jimmy was thinking bringing in Valverde in the 8th with a 6-1, but it's come back to bite us in the ass in the 9th. We've got a mess now.
Big potato hasn't pitched in 4 or 5 days, but I agree 100 percent about bringing him in for four outs.
Jesus H. Tittyfucking Christ.
NEW PITCHER PLZ
We're about 2 minutes and 13 seconds from a 61-pitch loss out of Valverde when he never should have been within 300 feet of the mound in a 6-1 game in the 8th inning. Now if he survives this debacle he's probably shot to hell for the weekend.
Plus, Valverde isn't going to be pitching for at least a day now. Ugh.
Edited to make my comment worthless. Great minds thinking alike I guess.
Wow, what a disaster.
Yakety sax, please.
HEY GREAT FUCKING IDEA LEYLAND, LET'S BRING IN OUR CLOSER FOR 4 OUTS WHEN WE'RE UP 6-1
And in other news, DD re-signed Todd Jones for the bullpen.
Valverde is making Todd Jones look like Mariano Rivera tonight. And Leyland is doing his best Phil Garner managing job.
Vintage Todd Jones. I need another beer.
60 pitches to close the show. I was closer than I wanted to be.
That was a piss-poor piece of managing out of Leyland.
That was scarier than it had any right to be.
