OT: Tigers, 6/23/10

A place for me to rant and rave.

Bonderman strands a leadoff triple. Better than I was expecting.

And what in the hell is up with Rod's glasses? Everytime I see those the only vision I get in my head is Mars Blackmon in the Air Jordan commercials of the late 80's.

Scoreless thru 1.

Why is ESPN showing ESPN News instead of the game?  I saw a commercial earlier promoting the Tigers on Wed. Night Baseball.  My Comcast menu says Tigers at Mets....  I was kinda excited to actually see a game down here in Indiana.  But apparently that is too much to ask?  Maybe I'll check ESPN3...

Alright, so I guess the game is blacked out in my area.  If anyone wants to explain to me how that works, feel free.  I would imagine it has something to do with ticket sales?

I remember growing up in Michigan and the Lions games were always blacked out.  I thought it was because I lived too close to Detroit.  Maybe it's different for baseball?  Or New York games?

Last time he faced Detroit as a Texas Ranger, he gave up an AL record six homers in 2006. I remember watching that game. I believe Chris Shelton got in on the action that night and it propelled his epic hot streak.

One of the first girls I dated when I first moved to LA 5 years ago invited me to the Angels' home opener against Texas. It just so happened that her cousin was RA Dickey who was with the Rangers then. I had never heard of the guy but I thought it was an odd coincidence that I also know a guy back in Michigan that has the initials RA with Dickey for a last name.

So after the game she and I and RA went out for steaks and beers in Anaheim. I caught a foul ball that game so I thought it would be cool if he signed it so I have that sitting on my bookshelf right now.

He ended up getting hurt shortly after that and was done for the year. I guess that's when he picked up the knuckleball. He then gave up 6 HRs which tied a MLB record against the Tigers the next year. I figured his career was pretty much over at that point. I also stopped seeing the girl so I lost track of his career.

So I was pretty surprised to turn on the TV and see my Tigers facing a 5-0 RA Dickey tonight.

The last interesting coincidence is that the night at dinner I specifically asked him what he thought of Bonderman as Bondo was a young, up and coming pitcher that year. I remember him saying that Bonderman had nasty stuff and was going to be very good. Who is he up against tonight, Bonderman.

Just thought I'd share.
