OT: There and Back Again - My Nautical Journey Update

Submitted by mGrowOld on

Last week I posted a question about making a trip from Put-in-Bay, Ohio to Sarnia, Ontario and got a ton of extremely helpful responses from the board.  The good news is that I made the trip last week and other than running into some pretty thick fog in the middle of Lake St Clair coming home, the journey was without drama and we had a blast.

I must say, however, that the time estimates I received were wildly off as we made the upbound portion of the trip in 5 hours going against the current and it only took us 3.5 hours to get home running with the current traveling at a pretty steady 26-28 MPH.  That was a pleasant surprise.

I will definitely make this trip again someday.  Here are a few pics from the voyage.

Heading out.....

Into the Livingstone Channel (where the Detroit River meets Lake Erie) - Very cool!

My Boat's namesake on the beach at Lake Huron

Sunset on Lake Huron over Lexington, Michigan

Downbound into Detroit from Lake St. Clair.  Ambassdor Bridge in the distance.

Me and the Motor City!

I had this realization just a moment ago.  Good work, MGrowold - "Hey guys thanks for the advice on how to float from Cleveland to Port Huron! As a thank you here are some pics of my sweet boat, my hot wife, the awesome weather we had, and my badassest scowl. BTW my boat is way fatser than I had originally thought and dropping twelve hundo on gas is just another weekend for me."

Then he goes full RDT but beyond and asks himself if he is a swinger.  "No, but we get propositioned often."

The only consolation for the hive is that scowl pic.  That thing needs to be incorporated into the banner or a t shirt.

Well played MGrowold.

Nice Trip

Moar pics of the fine Wife - Just kidding.

For a much longer  trip check out Hessel/Cedarville in the UP.  The wooded boat show in Hessel is the bomb.  Its like the Woodward dream cruise of wood boats.

And I make fun of him all the time for being old. Glad you had a good trip though. I was actually hoping you'd post a recap after your post asking for advice.
