OT: Thanksgiving Day Games Open Thread

Submitted by Jmilan on
Lions are already up 7-0 on the Texans. This should be a high scoring game IMO. Later at 4:25 the Redskins play the Cowboys At 8:20 the Patriots play at the Jets. In college at 7:30 TCU plays at Texas. Happy Thanksgiving and Go Blue and Go Lions.

They've got the 11th pick in the first round, and they want a defensive lineman. Nick Fairley and J.J. Watt are available. They decline to pick Fairley and instead pick Watt, who is a strong candidate for defensive rookie of the year (if the NFL has an award for that).

I don't get what point you're trying to make? First it was the 2011 Draft, not 2012 so Watt isn't a rookie.  Second, were the Lions supposed to trade up and get Watt? In hindsight do you think they should have done so? Besides some boneheadedness in the off season, Fairley has been a pretty solid player, especially of late.  Watt gets a lot of attention for knocking balls down and being on an elite defensive unit but an average line kept him mostly at bay.  He's not an elite pass rusher coming off the edge and his pursuit needs work.

...and the lions have earned their fate, both in this game and in the season, but they've played well enough to beat two very good teams two weeks in a row, & lost it on BS non-call PI late in game would've put them up 2 scores, instead they're up 6 & you knew they were going to lose against a good team then. This week, same: up 2 scores +, instead horrible call (he was down 3 ways!!) anf stupid NFL rule give opponent 7 pts and yards. Lions have earned their 4-7 fate, but, c'mon: you can't say that good teams should just overcome bad officiating costing them a score or more. There's another damn good team out there, and if they get the leg up from officiating, they're going to win 90% of time. They could've been in the race -- & they own much of blame for not being -- but please don't tell me they have _no_one_ to blame but themselves: they also got robbed by bad calls. Happens. But it sure as heck matters that it happened this badly. Twice

This makes me sick to be honest.  Forsett was down and everyone saw that.  If the Lions had hit him while he was down then everyone would be saying "same old dirty Lions."  Damned if you do, damned if you don't.  I know Schwartz screwed up but it wouldn't have happened if the refs would just do their jobs correctly.
