OT: Texas Ranger fan falls to his death
What a tragedy. The guy fell to his death with his son watching.
Tragedy Struck in Texas As a Rangers Fan Died After Trying To Catch a Foul Ball. Here is the Video
A Texas Rangers fan died after falling about 20 feet while trying to catch a foul ball. During the July 7, 2011 game between the Texas Rangers and Oakland A's, a fan reaching out for a foul ball fell 20 feet into a space in left field.
Rangers president Nolan Ryan said in a statement: "We are deeply saddened to learn that the man who fell has passed away as a result of this tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."
The Texas Rangers fan incident occurred in the second inning of the A's-Rangers game. Oakland's Conor Jackson hit a foul ball to left field. Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton threw the ball into the stands and the fan reached out and fell about 20 feet. The fan left the stadium in a stretcher and was rushed to hospital.
A similar incident happened last year when a man fell nearly 30 feet at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Baseball seems to have a lot of weird stuff going on this year. Had a manager who gets above .500 for the first time in ages for the franchise just quit, San Francisco Giants fan severely beaten, The Yankess wanting to throw Derek Jeter under the bus (not A Rod?), now this.
Man you gotta feel awful if you are Hamilton even though that isn't his fault.
That is a true shame. There seems to be a real safety issue in ballparks with all the recent accidents. People need to realize their safety is more important than catching a ball I guess, but it just looks like the guy slipped. I was expecting something completely different when the article said the video was disturbing, but that is quite the distance down from those seats. Doesn't seem safe at all. They should have some type of safety net there or something for that type of accident. I can't even imagine what that famliy must be going through. Thoughts and prayers to them.
Hockey put nets behind the glass, baseball may need to consider raising its railings?
This is the 2nd death at a baseball park (Coors Field) this season. Just so sad.
of a tragedy this is, the first guy (at coors field) was apparantly trying to show off to his friends. you reap what you sew, i guess.
As heartless as this comment seems, I believe it's somewhat accurate. How far can you go to protect people from themselves. At some point we have to admit it's hard to keep ahead of the curve. This is unfortunate news but entirely avoidable. People need to protect themselves.
When I visited Yellowstone, I saw a sign about a parent who got injured because they were trying to put their kid on a wild bison's back to take a picture.
People shouldn't have to be warned with signs that say DON'T LET YOUR CHILDREN RIDE THE BISON...but they still do it.
Also, you may want to see about getting your "shift" key fixed. Apparently, yours doesn't work.
I was at the game. It was so surreal. When the gentleman left he was awake and it seemed like taking him to the hospital was just precautionary. Josh Hamilton wasn't taking it to well after the game.
Apparently he is a local fireman and his son who is around 6-8 years old was there with him.
The things people will do to try an catch a ball at the ballpark are beyond comprhension. In most cases it is a freaking worthless ball. The best thing you can do after making a catch is give it to the nearest kid so he can play catch wih his dad or friends. Diving over seats or into crowds with no regard for your self or others is insane.
It didn't look to me like he was diving or being overly aggressive or anything. He just leaned too far forward over the railing and lost his balance. I just feel sick thinking about this and the kind of trauma his son must be going through. I can't imagine how I would feel if I watched my dad fall to his death right in front of me, and the kid is only 7 or so.
Seems like the guy was so focused on catching that ball coming at him that he lost track of where he was and what was happening - by the time he figured it out, it was too late. Just very sad.
Sad story. RIP
