OT: Texas makes a lot of statues (funniest thread ever!)
I got this sent to me by an Aggie - apparently the University of Texas has decided to make a ton of statues of the greats of all their sports. That sounds great - only problem is they look completely ridiculous...
Check out the UT thread for some hilarious photoshops (you've gotta go through a few pages but they are well worth it - Colt McCoy gets some great PS jobs).

Also some excellent Texas shenanigans. Texas baseball held practice this week in full Halloween costumes. Jedi Knight at shortstop had to be tough. Holding a light saber while fielding ground balls would be rough.

Haha that is funny. That looks like fun.

I love the jedi knight costume, especially that he's holding the lightsaber while shagging balls. But I'd like to see him backhand a ball and turn a double play while holding the lightsaber. That would be spectacular.

Done so that he can use his light saber to deflect balls to second baseman saving time and turning more double plays.

Are they wearing converse cleats? Because, that's ridiculous.
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:36 AM ^
The UT blog makes quite a mention about that - to be sure they are all wearing converse and, here's an awesome one, the statue of Texas great Greg Swindell is left handed and they use the exact same one as Roger Clemens who, ya know, is right handed...

and the bricks?!

Wow... That is all

Why are some of the statues standing while others appear to be running/highstepping? Very strange.

means he was wounded during the game

That is classic. No wonder Nebraska wanted out of the UT-controlled Big 12. After seeing the kind of things UT spends its earnings from their uneven revenue share of TV money, I'd want out too.

this was just built for internet meme'ing

Not only do the "replicas" of our sports heroes conjour up images of "blackface", Al Jolson and lawn jockeys, but they in no way truly represent the spirit of our University. Perhaps we can have our black athletes do a little soft-shoe jig as a warm-up before games.
Wow. Just wow.

look almost as bad as this stupid Michigan Halo.

Here's a rule: When sourcing your outdoor statuary, you might want to avoid patronizing a company whose websites are crazyfond of the exclamation mark.
Mayhap Larry (excuse me, I mean, "LARRY!!!") is the idiot nephew of some Texas booster.

Is it just me, or do both of the statues look like they are running for their lives? Didn't know that Texas' OL is THAT bad.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
This was awesome, I cannot stop laughing at those statues and the message board posts.

i can't stop laughing...

The dude looks like he's hopping on one foot after having stepped on a bee or a rusty nail or something. Good stuff.

Best comment:
I for one welcome our giant Chinese UT athlete statue overlords.
Love it. Those things look hideous. Imagine if we put in something like that. There would be an enormous backlash. Hell, a lot of people didn't even want to add the new boxes, let alone terrifying (and terrified?) looking statues.

The photoshopping was epic. I haven't laughed so much since this: http://youmakemetouchyourhandsforstupidreasons.ytmnd.com/

Haha Yes! "You make me touch your hands" is epically hilarious. (At least when drunk)

Better hire a new D-Coordinator. Only 10 men on the field.

appropriate, impressive, and in good taste.

my racist grandfather

1. This thread is almost as funny as it would be here if OSU or sparty had statues like this.
2. I tried to give one of the commenters an mgopoint until I remembered whose blog I was reading.

That's golden. Why does #10 look like he's escaping from a burning building? He's got a look of terror in his eyes.

I am getting a pretty good laugh out of some of the posters avatars almost as much as the comments
November 3rd, 2010 at 4:40 PM ^
Wow, I kept laughing for 9 pages solid. That was awesome.
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:08 PM ^
I should've known right away that trying to read this at work without laughing would be an exercise in futility. In fact, I did know it. Still, that did nothing to stop me from coming back over and over. Thanks for ruining my productivity today *laughs*
