OT - Terry Bowden to Akron (Edit: Confirmed)

Submitted by JHendo on

Terry Bowden has been hired by Akron according to sources, since it's not confirmed, no info on the contract.  (edit: hire has been confirmed pending board approval)

Kinda suprising.  Always thought when he made his return to the FBS, it'd be to a BCS conference team.  I know not all are fans of him, but I think it's a great hire for a MAC team...

Dammit I was really hoping Loeffler would get this job. I was interested to see how he would do as a HC even though it's obviously a tough situation to win.

If Bowden wanted a challenge, he's got it.  Akron has been genuinely horrible for the past few seasons.  1-11 this year and last.  2005 was the last winning season.

Why not Akron?  They have a brand new stadium and a lot of potential local football talent to pull from if they ever got their collective shit together.  I think Bowden is a great move for them.

Look at this area (I live here and serve on the BOD for the Fisher Institute School of Sales & Marketing) in basketball.  Cleveland State, Akron and Kent State ALL have good teams and virtually every player of note is a local kid that couldnt get an offer from one of the big boy conferences.  And this is not a basketball hotbed - it's football!

I think he'll do well and make a relative quick turnaround here.
