A Temperance Bedford football player has passed away after being in a car accident yesterday. Being from Temperance and having gone to Bedford, it is all anybody can talk about. It is truely heartbreaking as a girl from the freshman class was killed only a month ago. I'd just like to ask the board for their prayers to the family. Also thank you to some Michigan football players such as Shane, Devon, and Khalid Hill for their retweets about it. Many schools in the Southeast Michigan area such as Saline, Monroe, and Toledo Whitmer have planned a red out in his honor and I'm sure more  will follow.

Just a sad thing and there isn't much more to be said. I'm in SE MI and have family that went to Bedford/live in Temperance. Im from the very town the article is written from. Seems like it happens too much. Very sad.

RIP thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Many questions surround this incident like what was he doing at 9am on a wednesday driving not in school and how was he able to total his car by smashing a parked garbage truck in broad daylight?

Incredibly sad news. Thoughts and condolences to the families and community as well as Durbin's teammates.

Glad to see that my Hornets will participate in the memorial for Colton Durbin. Very nice tribute.

I currently go to Saline and just for clarification want to say we do an "out" every week and the red out was planned before this happened but I guess now is in support of Bedford

As a Dexter Dreadnaught, I understand how tragedy can affect a small town. I am truly sorry to hear that. Rip and God bless!

There's nothing worse to watch than parents burying their kids. We've had a couple deaths in our football program over the last couple years, and it's painful to watch those futures evaporate.

Condolences from a Monroe Trojan. Bedford seems to have taken on more of these tragedies than most over the years. It seems you cannot drive those roads in the area without seeing memorials to accident victims off to the side.

Also from Monroe with family that lives in Temp and went to Bedford. The roads out there are littered with memorials and such. Many of the roads (like where I grew up in NW OH) are just asking for this as there are many small "cow roads" that are poorly kept, uneven, can hardly fit 2 cars oncoming and surrounded by woods/ditches/etc. Not saying this was the case but I lost as many friends due to this down there from genuine accidents as merely putting a teen behind the wheel on those kind of roads. Lost two friends when, while going 15 over the speed limit (60), the car hit an uneven spot and literally had the back end pop up in the air and turn the car before landing. Once landed, my friend tried to keep the car on the road and the car flipped, rolling many times and then pure horror that I won't even go into. Just seems like those areas have roads that are just not fit for the traffic that is forced into them, only to get evened out/repaired every 20 years or so. Route 24, in many places but especially between Napoleon and Whitehouse has so many poorly planned places of entering and exiting (not to mention the poor conditions once on) that it's annually listed among the worst roads in America. Lost a few there as well. I only speak out about it when things like this happen/ed as there has to be some answer when it's not the kids fault. Maybe I'm just angry and there isn't but it's been more then I can count on my hands that I was close to personally. I've heard of people I've never met even more. All sad but it angers me and I'm not sure anything can be done. It just does.

Michigan roads are not the states crown jewel to say the least. I can easily say that the roads in the Temperance area are among the worst I've seen in the state of Michigan and probably in all of my travels in the US. The rural roads in the Dominican Republic are on par with SE michigans roads. The roads could've definitely played a part in this tradegy.

about road conditions...it wasn't a roadway issue. his vehicle struck the rear of a sanitation truck in full daylight with enough force to cause life threatening injury. no skid marks, no signs of evasive effort. it's tragic, perhaps mechanical failure, perhaps distracted driving, and this point it sadly doesn't matter. RIP too young so sad.

Condolences to the Bedford family. I grew up in Erie and my wife is a Bedford grad. This has been heavy on our hearts over the last 2 days. R.I.P. CD3.

Good luck to the rest of the Kicking Mule team as they try to complete their undefeated season tonight. Go out and win one for Colton.

Shutout #3 for the Mules tonight to cap off a perfect season. It still hurts, but very proud of how the players handled it. I just hope they take it one game at a time.

For the second playoff week for the my Saline Hornets and Bedford game down in Bedford. The mules are undefeated and Saline is 8-1 with their only loss to Bedford in a game they were leading in the 4th quarter. Definitely two of the best 10 teams in the state and a pretty good rivalry. Obviously with what Bedford is playong for it should be a very emotional and intense game. Anyone who is interested in Michigan HS Football should be there at Bedford Nov. 8, both teams carry very good fanbases so it will be packed.

Its crazy to see how far the Bedford football program has come. I remember when Monroe first put them back on the schedule thinking how great its going to be to pummel them every year. Well that happened for the first couple but man things have changed.
