OT - Televised Athletic Events Open Thread
Nothing spectacular tonight but enough different stuff to keep my interest. MSU-Illinois hoops right now on ESPN. Very ugly game but it was funny to watch Draymond Green get three fouls in the first ten minutes and Izzo freak out. Pistons getting beat by the Knicks on FSN. Red Wings play in Calgary starting at nine on FSN+. This is probably what I'll watch for the rest of the night. Some other basketball games, college and NBA ,are on. What's everybody else watching?

I'm going to finish lost tonight, 3 more episodes to go.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:32 PM ^
That's my favorite show ever but count me in the group that wished they hadn't seen the end.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:51 PM ^
SPOLIER ALERT: Don't read on if you don't want to know anything about how LOST ends.
Try watching the finale again. The first time I watched it I was disappointed with the finale.
Watching the second time I was able to get over the fact that there was so much techinical questions left unanswered. If you are a person who was into all of the mystery of the island and so forth then, I guess you will never be satisfied. I was intrigued by those aspects until the second time I watched the finale. I loved the show so much and loved the characters that I realized that it was about them and how they were all able to find each other in the end.
It was hard for me to be absolutely pissed because I loved the show so much. I can see where people would be pissed off about the finale though. There are some special short bonus things that are available online that kind of answer some of the questions.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:02 PM ^
I don't think I wanted the questions answered because the way it was written, there clearly were no good answers. They were making up the questions as they went. I wish the characters would have just died/got off the island and they would have just said, "Well, I guess it was all magic." The first few season were just so good. A white light is not an answer. Who ended up in the last scenes also made no sense. Sayid suddenly realize he loves Shannon more than his life long love?? It was completely pick and choose to satisfy fans.
The one technical thing that really, and I mean really, bothered me was Walt. He was such a big part of the early seasons and the producers didn't realize that kids grew up so they just stopped talking about him. I still loved the show but that and the religous parts of the finale really bug me for some reason.

I can totally understand where you are coming from.
My friend watched the entire thing a second time and he said that he noticed some things that he didn't see the first time.
I plan on watching the series again, but it is just a time commitment so I haven't started yet.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:12 PM ^
Yeah, I should definitely rewatch it. I just think the first three seasons were such a high point for network TV. I still enjoyed the other seasons more than anything else that was on at the time but they didn't live up to the first three, IMO.
January 31st, 2012 at 11:44 PM ^
The only season I actually saw on TV was the last season, the others I watched them all in marathon format on netflix.

I keep waiting for some more good news to get posted before tommorrow's NSD.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:35 PM ^
Can not make their bunnies. Worst, can I even call it shooting from that range, ever.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:37 PM ^
Lots of relevant college BB on tonight. Arkansas and Iowa State both play tough teams, wins for them would be nice. Virginia is beating Clemson right now, we want them to win for the same reason. Also, Wisconsin is losing to PSU in a game where Wisconsin is on pace to score about 23 points.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:40 PM ^
Definitely living up to its reputation tonight.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
Izzo and MSU are overrated. Again.

Brandon Paul Will take this game over if the refs get outta his way.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
My eyes are bleeding from watching this sparty game
January 31st, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
or is MSU really struggling tonight? Watched about 10 minutes...couldn't take it anymore.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:46 PM ^
Based on the number of missed layups(which is a Sparty staple this year) I would say struggling. Who shoots less than 25%?? They're not taking a lot of threes to drag it down.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:48 PM ^
MSU and Illinois have combined for more turnovers than made buckets tonight. That should sum it up.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:49 PM ^
It is perplexing how MSU is still very much in this game despite one of the worst shooting nights I have seen from a team. Wouldn't be surprised to see them pull this off somehow.

Izzo plays Green with the flu. He looks terrible and appears to injure his knee severely.

Hope he is ok . Great player. State loses brw.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:51 PM ^
This is the worst game I've ever seen. When does Illinois stop shooting threes? They're 2-15 and three straight possessions they've shot contested threes. The refs are calling it tight and they refuse to drive. This is an atrocity.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:52 PM ^
I can't take the new espn big ten announcing crew. That's all I've got.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
They're terrible...
January 31st, 2012 at 8:59 PM ^
Who doesn't like Mike Tirico?
January 31st, 2012 at 9:00 PM ^
He makes my ears bleed.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
And now Green is on the ground holding his knee...

Aaaand there go your points.

The rules around here are simple: Stay classy. No cheering for injuries. No personal attacks.
Most of your points return on Valentine's Day. Last warning.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:57 PM ^
We're not talking about a goon like Gholston. (Not that I'd wish injury on Gholston, but the "karma" argument would make more sense.) Green's a good guy. Other than pick MSU over us, he hasn't done anything to make us dislike him.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:56 PM ^
Right after an Illinois bucket, Green went down clutching his left knee. Looked to be in a lot of pain. Could be a stinger. Might be something worse.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:57 PM ^
Love this one, gives me chills.
January 31st, 2012 at 8:59 PM ^
Every time! I've watched this thing probably over a hundred times, and each time is as good as the first.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:18 PM ^
history. Fuck New Jersey. Out of all the teams I hated the most in the late 90s and early 2000s it was the Devils. Still hate them. Would of been so amazing to of won the cup in 95. My most hated finals of all time.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:00 PM ^
Unless Paul goes for 30-40 like he did against OSU, I don't see how they beat us. Leonard can't finish an alley-oop and has 4 points.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:23 PM ^
Leonard is the gumpiest big man the conference has had in a while. Terrible performance tonight.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:02 PM ^
Is parallel to SNL's Celebrity Jeopardy with Tirico playing Will Farrell's Trebek.
"Ill take "TheRapists" for 400 Alex!"

They're going to punish me by going to OT aren't they? I just want to watch the Red Wings but now I have to see how this ends.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:06 PM ^
Calgary is doin some ceremony, its buying us some time.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:24 PM ^
Was a remembrance ceremony for Brad McCrimmon. Ex-Flames player, Ex-Wing Assistant coach who died in September when his KHL Team's plane crashed.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:30 PM ^
He also played for the Wings, as well as the Bruins, Flyers, Whalers & Coyotes.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:38 PM ^
Yea I posted it when they were initially coming out after I flipped over to it for a second. After I saw what it was I immediately felt like a dick, my bad.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:09 PM ^
I get why everyone says it's good if Arkansas and Iowa State win, but at the same time, I think Michigan's finally at the point where no matter how the fringe teams we play do, we should make the tourney with a high seed assuming we take care of business. We have wins over enough top line or good teans like MSU, Wisconsin, even Memphis and Purdue, and the opportunity for more with Indiana, MSU again, OSU again, Illinois that we should make the tourney.
Saying that, I want teams like Arkansas and Iowa to lose. Just because I'm bitter that we lost to them. Yes I get this doesn't help us, and if this were last year I'd want them to win out, but at this point I feel comfortable saying that regardless of how they do, if we take care of business, we're in with a high seed.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:50 PM ^
It's not just about getting in the tourney, it's about getting as good a seed as we can. If a team like Iowa mails it in the rest of the season and finishes in last place, that could significantly hurt our résumé, causing us to slip in the seeding and get a tougher matchup.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:10 PM ^
Draymond Green looks to be hurt pretty bad. He can't even put pressure on his left knee. I actually feel bad for the kid if he's really hurt.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:11 PM ^
Illinois is handing this one away.
January 31st, 2012 at 9:12 PM ^
Noone wants to win this game.
