OT: Tebow Hate

Submitted by chunkums on
I'm a bit curious why there is so much animosity towards Tim Tebow. All the guy ever did was win a Heisman and two national championships, so you can't really blame him for the media slurpfest. I realize the Tebow-worship is annoying, but all the guy does is play, and he really does seem to be a good person, which you can't say about a lot of college and pro athletes. In summary: Don't hate the player, hate the game. Stepping down from my soapbox now.

Yeah. But it isn't so much hate, as overexposure. AT some point, you just get sick about hearing about how great someone is. See: Barack Obama. (not a political statement; simply that he is overexposed as well...)

Tebow plays the game the right way. 100% at all times. He's made the most of his God-given talent and from all accounts, is a nice person on top of it. I can understand not being a Florida fan, and I can absolutely understand not being an Urban Meyer fan. Tebow didn't do anything but win.

He gets brought up here every 2 or 3 weeks and people have the same arguments and nobody ever changes their mind. Will he ever be able to play QB in the NFL? Do you really hate him or do you hate the press for showing him so much attention? Could Mrs. Tebow even have had an abortion when she was pregnant with Tim, without spending 6 years in jail in whatever crazy ass country she was in? Threads get locked, feelings get hurt. I have no opinion on Tebow either way. I don't give a shit about him or how much attention he gets. If he vanished from the planet tomorrow, never to be heard from again, my life would not change a bit.

I think that religion should be a personal thing that should stay at home and in your church. He just puts it out there way too much. We all have our beliefs but none of us can say for sure our way is the true way. Being so public has a certain arrogance to it IMO. To each his own. Don't try to shove your beliefs down other people's throats. And BTW Tim you're a football player. You're just entertainment to us on the weekend. When we want something more high brow i promise we're not looking to you. I remember reading in SI how he knew they were going to beat Oklahoma for the title that year. He said how he and his teammates prayed in his hotel room the night before and he something like how God would be on their side. Like God likes Florida over oklahoma. I just shook my head.

The Bible disagrees with you. EDIT: The Bible has numerous teachings about sharing your faith. Again, I'm not a devout Christian, but I'm familiar with the Bible's teachings. There are verses such as "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation" and "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, and in purity." The Bible specifically asks its followers to go out and preach to people. You may believe that religion should stay within your home, but biblical teachings show otherwise. Tebow is doing what his faith asks of him. Christians should not look down on him for adhering to the foundation of the Christian religion. That's like wannabe vegetarians insulting vegetarians for...eating vegetarian.

Nobody said that you're all Christians. If you're not, then feel free to tune out whatever he says. I don't hate every Muslim or every Jew or every Hindu just because they think their religion is the correct one.

I think that religion should be a personal thing that should stay at home and in your church. Christians are supposed to share their beliefs. The New Testament is pretty straightforward about that. You don't have to like it, but what Tebow is doing is more true to the faith than those who privately pray but are publicly embarassed to talk about it.

likes to touch little asian boy's penises. and he's taking up superbowl ad time (that should be devoted to beer and girls in bikinis, or other clever stuff) to tell us lies about how his mom was told to abort him in the philippines even though it was illegal at the time.

Tebow's circumcision fetish comes from a feeling of jealousy -- he wants his left arm to be in contact with an appendage that might actually belong in the NFL. I hope all the worst things in the world happen to Tim Tebow and only Tim Tebow.

I acknowledge that Tim Tebow is an outstanding college football player. However, he has repeatedly traveled to the Philippines for the express purpose of converting tribal islanders to Christianity. He ceaselessly engages in similar proselytizing in the US at other times. He uses his popularity as an athlete as a platform to facilitate his Christian propagandizing. As a person who does not share his belief in the inherent superiority of western theology, I do not approve of these activities.
