His mom will never forget that, lol.
OT - Team USA v the Fighting Waffles Game Thread
That play right there is the sole reason wondo is in brazil. Balls tend to fall to him and he makes the easy ones. I mean...
definition of a poacher. And being where the ball falls is a skill, its not just luck.
Time to attack guys!
WONDOLOWSKI HAD KICKED IT IN, WE'D BE MOVING ON WITHOUT THIS STRESS
THAT was obviously our chance to win in regulation time. It was right fucking there.
To echo what everyone else has said already, though...Howard is absolutely amazing in this game. With any other goalie, we've likely lost 2-0, at the VERY least.
Better believe Belgium wants no part of a shootout
Fuck, Lukaku is in.... I BELIEVE!
Yep. there it is.
They had recovered fine and then just let the guy slip away
Should have used that sub JK. Never trust a German to coach an American team.
Because we've had so much success with American coaches....
Bruce Arena got us to the Quarters genius.
A sub would have done what exactly? Which of those players that were there did you want out? Blaming klinsmann is ridiculous.
Put Brooks in like I said 20 minutes ago. Instead we are putting MLS trash out there against EPL players
See what Lukaku is doing against an exhausted team? That's why you keep subs for late in games like this.
But he's not using the sub lol, my point.
He is working with inferior talent. One can easily see that the US does not the skill to be anything more than what they are--mediocre.
USMST is to soccer what Nebraska is to college football.
finally bites us in the ass
Good run fellas. Maybe in 4 years.
Ugh, finally let one in.
Thank goodness it happened now at least, and not at the end of regulation.
All on Beasler there
Se Llamaba USA
still 28 minutes y'all!
I actually liked the old golden goal rule - not in this case of course but in general.
Agree. Golden Goal is awesome
Starting to look a bit heavy-legged. Come on guys, we're still in this.
Belgium huge waste on a breakaway
Geoff Cameron gives me hope that I can make the national squad someday
Being honest we put up the worst fight in this round of 16 of any team - I can't judge Greece v Costa Rica because those are 2 teams of US quality and a weird game with CR down to 10 guys for so long, but in all the other games the lower seeded team put in a better showing. THat said, Wondo could have stole it.
Really? We took it to extra time which immediately puts us ahead of Uruguay, Nigeria and Mexico. They put up a hell of a fight.
What the fuck Dempsey? Shoot the ball
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Agree. Show some heart and lace them up for your country.
It's clearly Jozys decision.
ONE TIME THAT DEMPSEY!!!
Jones has had a very rough 5 minutes sheesh
For those that don't know, soccer balls are pretty much like round bricks.
Pretty amazing that Belgium hasn't given up a goal in the run of play all tournament. They gave up one penalty to Algeria and that's been it.
My sister shoots harder than Bradley.
Put her in
Yep good night. Belgium played very well today.
with his lack of ball skills
He dominated that aspect
Besler wasn't even covering that run at first
Another tired defender gets beat. John Brooks, fresh off the bench wouldn't have.
If you would have told me twenty minutes ago that you wanted to pull out Besler when Bedoya and Gonzalez were running on one leg I would have said you were crazy.
Suck it up it's the World Cup
Besler shit the fucking bed the last 20 minutes at least
I mean, come on. That entire D has been pretty heroic considering our mid-field can't put together more than 3 passes for the vast majority of the game.
Congrats to Belgium
Belgium has outshot us tonight 36-9 . . . holy moly.
Lukaku is freaking 21 years old. Geez.
Keep it on the ground, Wondo!
Yedlin and Green are the future. In 4 years hopefully we play better
"Could you imagine our NBA and NFL athletes playing soccer..."?
Have you noticed the typical shape of the world's best soccer players? Usually short, low center of gravity, thick ankles. We may be wasting some great soccer bodies but for the most part they aren't to be found in the NBA or NFL.
SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!
Sick goal by Green. Too late I'm afraid
I know he's young but how is he not in the game from the beginning?
He hasn't played in the previous 3 matches, are you really going to start him in an actual elimination game?
He looked compeltely overwhelmed in the run up games
NOT OVER. WHY? BECAUSE IT ISN"T FUCKING OVER.
WE HAD SUBS! IT WAS CRAZY. That was a QUALITY GOAL. Wow
Was it over when the Belgiums bombed Pearl Harbor???
We're done. Howard has been so money, kept us in it.
Tim Howard is the absolute man.
Taylor needs to relax in the booth
Howard is in another galaxy tonight
Serious guys Jones almost tied this thing.
Griswold's sister take this kick
We got this
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!! SO CLOSE!!!
Holy shit, so close!
THat was a hell of a set piece... wow
Bradley is afraid to shoot. Thank god he is done
he is such a pussy with the ball
That sort of tick tack set piece almost never works to get a shot off, amazing fun to watch that.
Green sort of mishit that actually - but it worked out.
GOD DAMN IT
Our pressure here is fantastic.
Dempsey was a complete non factor tonight, not suprising but a dissapointment. We still have a way to go to get to top tier. It was a good showing though. We'll be back!
Win or lose you've got to love how this team will never quit.
More like they didn't start playing until extra time
They are committing almost the entire team up the field. When you do that you get destroyed by counter attacks and they already got 1 goal off it quickly. It wouldnt have worked with Belgium's skill to play this open for 90 minutes.
I am sure Belgium mentally relaxed there for a few minutes, we got a goal. And now you are in the last 10 minutes of the game where the team down goes crazy and the team up just is in defend mode.
Haha! The future is birght!
We have been saying that for 20 years
but it I'd have to say it really is. When we're not just in conservative mode, we can be really dangerous. Lot's of young talent on the team.
First time they've ever made to the knockout stages two WCs in a row. Again get over yourself.
One minute? And Portugal got five? LOL
That was for a 45-minute half though. This was a 15-minute extra time session.
I do think teams often get shortchanged on stoppage time though.
...and Jones x2. That's all I remember--I'll bet if we put a clock on it we wouldn't get more than 80 or 90 seconds.
Given where the ball was when he blew for time, I doubt the extra 20 seconds would have mattered much.
Hell of a try.
Shameful display. Outshot by 30 shots.
It sure is a mystery where all your points went
Could care less about points. I call it like I see it. I'm not an American outlaw trailer park slappy. I actually know the game.
Yep you know more than JK does apparently! Go get em coach!
Personal attacks? I'll make sure to report it.
Not a personal attack, he is just calling it like he sees it.
He plays men's league soccer, so he knows WAY more than everyone else.
Well I won a state championship in HS and was recruited by colleges. Which is more than your trailer park ass can say lol
Sure you did buddy.
I'm wasting so many MGoPoints on you right now
What's with the "trailer park" comments? It's starting to make me think..
Yeah I doubt it
and you sit here ripping his handling of the time. Meanwhile you reference your experiene in American high school soccer and tepid interest from D-III schools as a claim of expertise.
It seems that logical consistency is not a strength of yours.
Lol I said to use the sub about 40 minutes before the German did. And what happened? The sub fucking scored. He was playing for penalties which is a shit strategy. Even Ian said the US was trying to hold on for penalties
Nice spelling of experience. It appears common simple English spelling isn't a strength of yours.
Entertaining final 30 minutes. Very rough first 90 minutes. We are still about 2-3 levels behind this type of team. When teams bring in a Lukaku as a sub it's pretty telling.
What I love is we always have fight - we just need a lot more playmaking in the midfield.
We went this whole tourney with our best field player totally MIA. And our forward out almost the entire tourney. Based on that we did fine.
Also want to say as a whole our defense played very very well. They were the scary part of the team going into the tourney.
I feel bad that Tim Howard is stuck playing with guys like Wondblowski and Besler
Please get over yourself
You're a guy who says "Spartina" and "O$U" too
Actually I don't. I criticize people for saying 'Ohio' instead of Ohio State.
And it's Clark Griswold for the win!
Doubtful. You would be out there if you were
Don't be so sure. It's been well documented that the US development program and scouting is vastly inferior to Euro
Bull feces > you
But fuck that game. My poor throat.
Highlights for future
Yedlin is 21.
Besler is 28 I believe.
Gonalez is 25. That is 3/4 of your future defense. If you keep Fabian as a defender (26) you have a consistent starting defense for another 4 years.
Outside midfielders need a lot of work. You cant put Mix in because while fun on offense he cant be trusted defensively and is "soft" - Zusi and Bedoya will be 30+ in next WC. Cameron 28, I dont see much upside.
Bradley still youngish (26) but yuck this tourney.
Unfortuntely Jones in 32 as is Beckerman.
Dempsey is 31 so might be done by next WC (35) - Altidore and Green still young. Maybe Johannsan will be effective too by then.
So all in all our midfield will need a complete revamp due to age but defense and forwards we will be ok. Hopefully the GErman system has some future Americans in the midfield.
GK we lose Howard unfortunately as well.
Don't forget about Fabian (26) and Brooks (21).
Couldn't you think about pushing Johnson and/or Yedlin up to a winger spot? Plus if Josh Gatt ages well and isn't injured, he's got good potential (and 'hometown hero' potential as well).
Wingers and target men.
If Germany's the endpoint there are no wingers. Width is provided by overlapping fullbacks. I know they're struggling with that this year because they're stuck with a back line full of center backs, but go back and look at prior teams. Look at Klinsmann's '06 team for that matter. All the midfielders are either central players or pseudo-strikers. Yedlin = Odonkor.
Excellent showing, we were out classed but never gave up! Howard continues to show is one of the best ever!
US has always been blessed to have great goalkeeping, at least in my lifetime. Keller, Friedel, Howard . Hopefully Guzan continues.
Green will be a stud. Amazed he wanted to play for the US.
Tim Howard should never have to buy a beer in the US again
Well, I'm glad I checked this thread. I've never felt so American neg-banging someone.
