OT: TAMU Freshman DL and Utah incoming Freshman DL killed in car crash

Submitted by michWolves2580 on

Very tragic news this morning in the CFB world. Two high school friends and teammates were killed in a car crash heading home to Euless, Texas. Polo Manukainiu was a freshman defensive end at Texas A&M University, his friend Gauis Veanuku was an incoming freshman defensive end heading to Utah. A third in the car,  Salesi Uhatafe, a freshman offensive lineman at Utah, is in critical condition. All three played high school ball together at Euless High School in Texas.

The tragedy has been confirmed. Keep all friends and families involved in your thoughts and prayers.

to the families and the teams, esp the high school teams these kids played for.  Tough to lose someone in that manner with no warning.  I hope their parents find peace.

That's sad. It's pretty irrelevant, but Gaius Vaenuku was offered by Michigan. That could have been our program/players suffering from that tragedy.

It is very tragic indeed - very sad to see young lives taken so unexpectedly like this. Condolences to the family friends and community and schools of the victims.

Kind of irrelevant but it seems like Russell Bellomy knew Polo. He wrote this on his facebook page this morning:

"Can't believe the news i received about Polo Manukainiu this morning. As an opponent, I had the upmost respect for him. I cannot imagine the level of respect he warranted from his friends, family and teammates. My heart goes out to his loved ones, Texas A&M and Trojan Nation. RIP Polo"

2 years ago A&M lost a basketball player in an auto accident due to driver fatigue (not alcohol). Every year there are several A&M students who die driving home during spring/winter/Thanksgiving break. It's really tragic. I lost one of my students at A&M this exact way. I wish they would get more sleep before making these long drives.
