OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - Movies & TV

Submitted by JeepinBen on

SWENSON!

Just kidding.

What's your favorite TV or Movie car? Would you own it? With or without its magical powers? (EG, you'd love to own the General Lee, but it has to be indestructable or no deal or, You actually had a black TransAm with the license plate "KITTTTT" and you swear it talked to you once).

No talking about recruiting or ethics here, let's talk cars. The more obscure the better. Would you rather have Jake Ryan's 944 from "16 Candles"? or the U-Boat 928 from "Risky Business". These are the important questions of our time!

indeed.

Cars are half emotion. My wifes best friend had an early Saturn. She bought it because it was the only car she could afford out of college.  She was a rep for Walmart and put 200K on it in 5 years. It never gave her any issues. She traded it on a New Beetle that had transmission issues and required a new engine at 50K.

I asked her if she might go back to Saturn, or maybe a Toyota. 'No. They just aren't stylish enough. I'll try another beetle.'.

Somewhere an engineer screamed that day.

Had a 1992 Cherokee Sport that we loved, but sold in Germany in 2005.  Looking at Cherokee again right now (thanks to the deer I hit last week that totaled my Volvo), but reliability warnings are giving me pause.

Or a minivan.

I burned 8 hours at the auto show with my buddy. The minivans amaze me. How you get any structural rigidity out of a box with 5 gaping holes in it and a long wheelbase is like magic. Or the pillars are filled with unobtanium.

The Camaro was amazing. I loved it. But with the rear visibility don't park anywhere where people under 4 feet might be within 10 feet of the rear bumper if you have to back up.

I love that car. But it's all emotion.

In the show 'Life' with Damien Lewis at one point he had a Regal GNX.

And yes, I love that car. Amazing what it accomplished for the day. Hell, the GNX, IIRC, could hit a 12 something quarter mile. That's like an 80's Hellcat.

Barbara Bach might have something to do with that. Also, the stunt drivers couldn't drive the damn thing, so a Lotus engineer became the stunt driver!

Initially, the designated stunt driver for the chase sequence involving the Esprit was unable to achieve the level of excitement the production team desired owing to the Esprit's significant levels of grip, and they quickly became frustrated with the lack of progress. Following an unsuccessful take, the crew asked for the car to be returned to their location, and with the stunt driver absent Lotus engineer Roger Becker, who had accompanied the Esprits to the set and was familiar with the car's handling characteristics, climbed behind the wheel. His brief performance in the car was so impressive that when he slid to a halt in front of the cameras, producer Cubby Broccoli allegedly instructed him to repeat the feat immediately, and he would ensure the cameras were rolling this time. Becker was subsequently hired to do virtually all of the stunt driving for the chase sequence.

The V8 Interceptor (Holden?) from Mad Max. Prior to Road Warrior modifications.

'The Blower man! The Blower!'

As for magic I love the driver actuated supercharger.

Maybe my first, and best, piece of automolove.

As a second I'd take a Cobra Daytona that was on an episode of the Monkee's. Can't remember which one.
