OT: Talking Cars Tuesday
In the apparent absence of JeepinBen I have decide to post up this weeks Talking Cars Tuesday.
This week's question:
What is your favorite type of racing? (i.e NASCAR/endurance/Moto GP/Kart/etc)
Bonus question:
Favorite racer of all time?
For me it's endurance racing. specifically 24 hours of Le Mans/24 Hours of Daytona. Favorite racer would have to be Paul Newman.
Discuss.

Mario Kart 64! Yoshi all day!!!
I always loved it on the 64, but I was more partial to its successor Double Dash
THANK YOU
Hell yes. The 64 version is good, but Double Dash is better by a long shot.
Endurance racing for sure. What used to be known as the American Le Mans Series. Now called Tudor Sports Car Series or something.
I've been to races at Mid-Ohio and Road Atlanta and highly enjoyed it. I'm a big Corvette Racing fan.
Going to see the actual 24 heures du Le Mans is on the bucket list. And Laguna Seca.
You are correct sir. Jake the skull would be proud of you.
For real, the only thing in my life that I want more than witnessing a Michigan football national championship or Red Wings Stanley Cup is taking my car on the Laguna Seca track for some hot laps. I've had my Dad's on Road Atlanta in shitty weather on a parade lap, and even that was great fun.
Snocross racing willl always be the only kind of racing for me.
My favorite racer of all time is either Kirk Hibbert or Blair Morgan.
No cars
I second Paul Newman
on SuperMarket Sweep!
I don't like this question. I like cars, hate racing. New question - what type(s) of cars do people drive where you automatically pre-judge them in a negative light?
My "I can't believe how big of an idiot you are" car - Chrysler PT Cruiser
My "I don't know if you are an idiot or a true pyschopath; regardless, I'm staying away from you" car - Pontiak Aztek
I also apply typical stereotypes to anyone who owns a Hummer or a Corvette (although those new Corvettes are nice and I generally like them / avoid judging their owners).
How can you like cars, but hate racing? That's like liking boobs but hating women.
Nope. It's like someone that likes playing sports but hates watching them.
I like driving (and being driven in) cars. I have no interest in watching them race each other on TV - because I don't get to drive those cars (as unfortunate as that is). I have to feel like I'm not alone in this world.
I agree 100%.
I get not liking it on tv. Watching a race on tv vs going to a race is similar to watching a Michigan game on tv vs going to a Michigan game . It's a whole other type of experience.
I'd argue that the last 4 years of Michigan football, I've had more fun watching it on TV than being there in person (except the Sugar Bowl, because 'New Orleans').
So, I don't get your point at all. And I'm certain I wouldn't like it in person. Quit negging me for calling you out on a terrible topic whilst filling in for Ben. You've ruined my day.
Just because you haven't done something doesn't mean you wouldn't like it. The venus and the showmanship of the live racing events is what makes them more entertaining.
You've made my point for me with the Sugar Bowl note.
P.S. I just upvoted you to balance out. Now pull your panties out of your butt and sack up.
I love cars and also hate racing. It's quite simple, really. Fewer things in life bore me more than watching a bunch of dudes make four left turns for three hours or more.*
*I realize not all racing takes place on an oval track, but you get my point.
If you really do love cars then you would like racing. I think you just haven't seen the right type of racing yet.
New question - what type(s) of cars do people drive where you automatically pre-judge them in a negative light?
The Nissan Cube. I mean you have got to be the world's biggest dumbo-tron to actually want to be seen in a thing like that. It's not a car, it's manifest stupidity on wheels. Driving one says, "Look at meeeeeeeeeeee I'm so artsy and quirky I just have to be looked at!"
My favorite type of racing is rally, specifically the off-road stuff (never really got into the Rallycross or such). I follow the Rally America series moreso than the international stuff, but it's all good to me.
Can't really say I have a favorite driver, but what David Higgins (and co-driver Craig Drew) has done the past few years is really goddamn impressive.
MotoGP is #1. My favorite GP rider is Rossi (because of his long career and great interviews, not just because he wins so much). My favorite rider growing up was Matt Mladin of the AMA Superbike series. I used to really like AMA racing before they started changing the rules every year to make the Buells competitive (which never happened). I also have an insane amount of respect for anyone who races the Isle of Man TT. I'm surprised those guys can even ride what with their enormous cojones.
Those aren't cycles they're on. That's their enormous balls with some wheels attached.
I enjoy motorcycles and have a had more than a few in my day, but I've never ridden a crotch rocket. I know my limitations, and going 100+mph with nothing more than a thin layer of gaberdeen between me and the pavement is just a bad idea.
I test rode a used YZFR-6 one time and decided wisely not to buy it. It is hazardous to my health when 80 is where 25 should be on the speedo. You can have plenty of fun riding without trying to kill yourself. Having said that, I've been borrowing my dad's Triumph while my bike is out of commission and I'd really like to see how fast it will go on the way home from work.
Any race that my favorite driver and car are in....
That famous race in Wales where human runners compete against horses over a course of 22 miles. It's been going on about 30 years. Men have won twice. Not bad really. But endurance running is sort of our thing as a species. Scientists say that if the race was a little longer men would win more consistently. Still interesting though.
Seriously though. Why is this not on ESPN8?
It's a fascinating race for all sorts of reasons. The race even has a cool origin story about an argument in a bar that turned into a bet that resulted in a man racing a horse.
I'm only down voting because I hate racing and think it is a complete waste of oil. I do, however, like the car posts.

It's a good thing that Zoolander isn't a NASCAR driver
He and his team would be great to watch. No left turns for him and the pit crew would get black flagged for fuel fights.
That said, I really miss (not that I was alive for it) Can/Am racing. Lemans is probably my current favorite, although I'd love to race in LeMons someday.
Can/Am's "no rules" birthed some wonders, including McLarens running 8.0L Ford V8s and my favorite race car and butchering of a Latin letter by Germans the "180 V-12" in the Porsche 917. Bolt 2 911 Tubro engines together in the 70s? Aw hell yes.
I'm not partial to any driver, but I'm very interested to see how the Porsche and Audi teams fight this year. Hooray cousins and old feuds!
+1 for the Lemons mention.

Guessing you live your life one quarter mile at a time?
Street racing is a lot of fun. When you're in high school and have no fear of death.
Just go to an industrial park at night. No traffic or pedestrians.
Demolition Derby, is that racing?
About as much as cockfighting is a sanctioned sport.
I grew up riding dirt bikes and racing motocross. It's the only kind of racing I can really watch. Favorite racer would have to be Travis Pastrana.
To participate in was autocross, back when I had my 93 MR2 Turbo. Also loved those weekend mountain runs in north Georgia when I lived in Atlanta.
To watch? Tough, because most of the racing I like watching is not on ovals, so difficult to watch the whole thing, but probably rally and F1.
But I love all things racing and enjoy littering my house (to my wife's chagrin) with racing models or die casts. Although I can't bring myself to watch Nascar. It makes me spitting angry half the time.
