OT- Support your nation and the Great Lakes State

Submitted by Wolverine In Exile on

I decide to celebrate the USMNT win with a delicious six pack of USA beer. I'm feeling kind of festive tonight so I pick up a 6-pk of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat since they are largest US owned brewery since Bud was sold to those Godless commie bastard Brazilians.

Anyway, I take a reading to the neck label and lo and behold, the cherries used in the beer are said to be Michigan cherries (balaton to be exact). So I call my buddy in traverse city who's married to the daughter of the Cherry Baron of Northern Michigan (kind of like the Beer Baron, but 30% less Rex Banner), and sure enough Jim Koch (owner of Sam Adams) makes yearly trips to TC to find his supplier for cherries for the year. The contract supplier to the brewery per the contract gets the first keg of Cherry Wheat brewed at the Boston brewery for that year and as many cases as requested.

So if you're looking for a way to celebrate our nation, our state, and beer, try a six pack of Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, it's delicious, good for Michigan football (the Cherry Baron's daughter is a Michigan grad and a significaant donor), and good for you.

Budweiser was sold to InBev, which is a Belgian company(not Brazilian).

Sam Adams is great though. I definitely buy more of it now that everyone else has sold out.

I have spent many a glorious afternoon in the Ypsilanti public parks for the Michigan Brewers Guild festivals. good times. good times. I still wear my "Drink Michigan Beer" oxford button up to work.

Unfortunately, I'm in DC this week away from my usual beer store near home, so I defaulted to what I know of the availables, the always acceptable Sam Adams (Cranberry Lambic excluded of course)

a 6-pack of Soft Parade from Shorts out of Bellaire.  It's an ale brewed with berries.  Admitting that I drink an occasional fruity beer might get me some negs but, damnit, I've been hooked on it ever since my wife and I spent our last anniversary in Bellaire.

Everybody is selling out these days, good for Sam Adams. Seems pretty ironic you got the cherry wheat beer and it led you to your cherry connections. Cool story, and Go USA!

....but, the last part of your post (about it being good for Michigan football in addition to TC) just sold a six-pack.  I can share them if it becomes too much.

If the state of Michigan locked its own borders and mandated that we could never drink beer from outside the state ever again... we would be in damn good shape.

Bell's, Founders, New Holland, Short's, Arcadia, that little place off 96 near Webberville.  Yes.

the MIchigan cherries are stlil flourishing.  I read an article a while ago that a lot of the Traverse area cherry folk are switching over to growing wine.  Not that I have anything against wine...  But I guess that's OT since we're talking about beer.

Vanilla porter brewed in Detroit. I can't remember the name right now and am on a slow ass blackberry, otherwise I would have looked it up. Its really good and the only one I have heard of.

I haven't had Cherry Wheat in a while, but it was probably the first "interesting" (i.e. non piss-water) beer I drank on a regular basis, which inspired me to try all sorts of other stuff later on.  You could almost call it my "gateway beer".

Glad to hear that there's a beer-synergy (beernergy?) between Traverse City and Boston -- I traveled to both cities last year and loved 'em both.  I'll have to pick up a 6'er of Cherry Wheat for old times' sake.
