OT: SuperBowl Menus!

Submitted by gopoohgo on

Big game....big eatin' and drinking.

As a sop to Mrs. gopoohgo, drove 30 minutes to a seafood market and picked out, and finished hand-scrubbing 3 dozen oysters (Blue Point, Chincoteague, Chesapeakes).  Out on the porch on ice at the moment.

Have a pound of italian cold-cuts (soppressata, bresola, salami), a half pound of provolone, and a loaf of farmhouse country bread that will be my sub for the game.

Stone Vanilla Porter, Green Flash Symposium IPA, and Estrella Damm Inedit (Catalan pilsner brewed with input from Ferran Adria of El Buli fame).

Probably should have smoked some ribs, but this is too much food for two people and a dog.

I got a four pack of Dogfish 90's and three Stone "Enjoy By" pints to share at my neighbor's party.  We're bringing some munchies to share that my wife is making (not sure what) nor do i know what food they will have there.

But I'm thankful as hell the party is next door.  There is a LOT of snow coming down here in northern Ohio.

I bought a 6 pack of Sam Adams Rebel Rouser...not a big Sam Adams fan but thought I'd give it a shot. Also have Southern Tier 2x IPA and a crock pot full of BBQ ranch chicken bites, along with bacon wrapped cream cheese jalapeños.

Subs. It gonna be crazy.

Side note, I read in the paper this morning that the  average star rating coming out of high school for Seahawks and Patriots is 2.4 and 2.3. Can't remember if that was starters or entire team. Eases Wednesday anxiety a bit.

We've hosted parties for all three Seahawk playoff games this year. The first had a mexican food theme, with margharitas. The second game was early so we had a waffle bar with mimosas.

Today we're doing an Italian theme: Pasta bar with amaretto sours (tinted green). We also have a blue curacao-based drink. We tinkered with the mix on that last Saturday night and had serious hangovers on Sunday. 1 ounce blue curacao, 1 ounce strawberry vodka, 1/2 ounce simple syrup. Friends are bringing meatballs (we're vegetarian), we have margharitta and curacao/lime jello shots, and some Seahawk Top Pot donuts for early arrivals. Tiramisu for dessert. The Fireball is in the freezer.

Blue and green Jones "12th Man" sodas for the kids and tee-totalers.

Blue and green tortilla chips.

The full whiskey shelf is ready. My current go-do is Highland Park Dark Origins.

It's just me, the wife, the baby and the dog. But on the menu today we have chips and picante, fried mac n' cheese bites, mozzarella sticks, cheese and bacon potato skins, coney dogs and Edward's cookies and cream pie, all with some Fat Tires, Cuba Libres and peppermint Shnapps hot chocolate to wash it down.

I couldn't really care less about this game or the NFL, except when the lions are on / doing well...but Tom Brady is a UM alum so I'll be rooting for him.  Plus it should be a good football game, I'm always inclined to watch a good football game.  Anyway.  Now to the food:

Homemade Guacamole (Aguacalypse Now) + Tortilla Chips

Hand cut thrice buttermilk-battered deep fried onion rings

Hand cut potato wedges (also deeeeep fried)

Burgers... bought 4lb of ground sirloin, probably gonna make the burgers with ketchup, worcestershire sauce sauce, finely diced onions, egg yolks, salt, pepper, and dijon mustard.  As far as toppings go... traditional lettuce, tomato, red onion, also got a lb of Michigan bacon from Sparrow Market, so that should be great.  I have some sharp cheddar, might melt that down and use a syringe to inject it into the meat whilst cooking.

If anyone has any better suggestions for more interesting burgers, I'm all ears :)

Going to neighbors.  He's been smoking ribs all morning on his Big Green Egg.  I'll be making pepperoni bread/stromboli this afternoon and some brownie ice cream sandwiches for the kids.

We were heading 30 mi to Ann Arbor for a party but since the "pre-Snowmageddon" has already dropped about 5" here, we staying home in anticipation of the real dumping starting at about 5:00.  Now we're "stuck" with everything I was taking to the party: Soy-glazed turkey/cilantro meatballs, mini-quiches, and two different dips for crackers and chips. The man is making chicken and dumplings later and there's a fridge full of beer and wine. Let it snow.
