OT: Super Bowl Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
About an hour to go. Hoping for a good game, expecting it to not live up to the hype. Go Saints! For New Orleans, and the continuing glory of Tom Brady. But in any regard, another couple of Wolverines are getting a ring. And at least we'll have the commercials...we'll see who the $2.5 million Denise is tonight...

Wayne needed to make that catch. Still, a great game by the Saints. Just an amazing turnaround. Brees had one of the most efficient, best games I've seen recently.

My dad is a lifelong Vikings fan and I can't think of any team in any type of sports that has been harder to root for than them. They were the best team in the NFL (just like they were in 1998) and I honestly don't know how he/they handle it after all these years.

Kinda died out when they got players and coaches I didn't like while I started rooting for Michigan players. And while I don't know if they were the best team, you may want to check out Bill Simmons articles on Page 2 the last couple of weeks. It had the most downtrodden fanbases, and then the letters from the fanbases. Yes, the Vikes figure into it...

Four Super Bowl losses, a 15-1 team that lost in the NFC championship game because of a missed field goal (from a kicker who hadn't missed a single kick all year), and a Super Bowl bid destroyed because of 5 turnovers and an INT from a hall of fame quarterback (when only one less would have meant certain victory). Every year my dad says he doesn't care about pro football any more but he still comes back every time only to be crushed by the Vikings. I grew up a spoiled Redskins fan in the '80's but I'm starting to relate to him a lot more.

And what is it now...like 5 straight NFC champ game losses?? The Falcons one was worse...Saints and Colts good teams. That year should have been the Vikes and Broncos. (And yes, the fact that the Broncos were my brothers childhood team to go with my Vikes like would have been fun). This team? When you carpetbag a Packer, it's not the same... And yes, the Vikes rank high on Simmons list...

Man, do people just sit on Wikipedia waiting for life to happen so that they can update the site? I couldn't remember where Tracy Porter played college ball, so I googled him and clicked on his Wikipedia page during the commercial break after his pick 6, and that play was already posted. Went back to that page as soon as the Colts turned it over on downs with less than a minute left, and it was updated again to show that Porter's INT helped lead the Saints to a win.

Saints had an amazing 2nd half, and I think they would have won anyway, but losing Freeney for much of the second half really hurt the Colts defense. Still, I was surprised to see how tough the Saints D played in the 2nd half against Manning and co. They basically gave up one good drive.

because I had 50 on the Saints (+5), and then another 50 at half (+1), so I won $100 minus $5 for the vig. Then, my friends had me do stupid boxes, so I ended up at $95 - $50 for 1 box set and -$40 for another. At least it was fun and I didn't lose $190!

The sad thing is, I don't expect that to change unless Manning can milk out another SB appearance from this Colts team. Brady on a better team could probably win another title, but on this Patriots team I don't see it.

The Pats defense was terrible this year. It didn't help that Welker was hurt towards the end of the year. I think with two draft picks and a free agent, the Pats can be back near the top. As far as the Colts go, I think this defense has only a good year or two left.

And to think, if Jake Delhomme had been healthy this year, or if the Panthers had just started Matt Moore from week one, this wouldn't have happened. Ok, maybe I'm full of shit.

Fuck you colts! I was rooting for ya in the beginning because you have hart and although it is extremely difficult to go against him, you burned yourself but not playing him when it counted. You reap what you sow maybe next time you'll realize the mistakes you've made

I wonder how Archie is feeling...his son loses to his former historically downtrodden team... How do Purdue Fans from Indiana feel? I wonder how Vol Nation is feeling? (Is Travis on suicide watch?) I wonder how the San Diego Chargers are feeling...now not only the quarterback they had to trade to New York has won a Super Bowl, but the QB they got rid of so the QB they drafted instead of the one who won a Super Bowl has won a Super Bowl too. And yes, that was fun to type.
