OT: Super Bowl Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
About an hour to go. Hoping for a good game, expecting it to not live up to the hype. Go Saints! For New Orleans, and the continuing glory of Tom Brady. But in any regard, another couple of Wolverines are getting a ring. And at least we'll have the commercials...we'll see who the $2.5 million Denise is tonight...

Mike Hart and Jonathan Goodwin playing with Marlin Jackson and Adrian Arrington on the sidelines. How is this considered off topic....... Just playing, but seriously, so nice to have another Wolverine with a ring!

But Brian's FAQ has pro sports OT, and if that meant exceptions were made for sports or games with Michigan athletes, we could exclude everything from being OT just about. But no one is losing sleep over it one way or another...

That's what she said! Now that that is out of the way... I just happened to research that after last year's Super Bowl. And I'm getting ready to switch houses for viewing, so no time to edit. Total players with all those men to play in the game...? Someone else can research that... ;-)

nice research. I knew Michigan's three, saw bama had the first three, then thew in the towel for the rest of the assignment. +1 to your tenaciousness.

Well, have to tally one more for the State of Indiana, though I think this was Purdue's first...have to double check my notes when I find them... Though right this second, Wiki has Sean Connery as the new Super Bowl MVP along with Brees. I can buy that...

Why did they spend all the money on that ad? No mention really of tough pregnancy or "pro life" choice. Just super awkward. And what the hell was with Tebow tackling his mom? That made me way more uncomfortable than any hot-button political ad could have.

i believe i won the debate on this commercial by pointing out how dumb it was to have a quarterback tackle his mother. prevailing opinion was that he should have hit her in the head with a football. for both logic reasons and, well, the obvious joy of seeing him do so. problem is his delivery is so slow, they would have had to buy more airtime.

Colts looked in sync on that first drive - Saints need to score (or at least move the ball such that the Colts have bad field position) on basically every drive if they want to keep this close. That said, the Saints will make a game of this - certainly better than the Bears a couple of years ago against the Colts.

Tebow ad was certainly tame, but I guess it wasn't that important for it to convey any information because of the hoopla surrounding it. If I had seen that ad without any info beforehand, I probably would have wondered why they spent so much money for Tebow to smile. At least perform a circumcision or something for that money...

I don't think many people would have gone to the website to check it out - they would have basically forgotten about the ad in a minute or two. The fact that people made such a big deal about it, though, made it infinitely more relevant and memorable than if that ad had popped up during prime time on Tuesday or something like that.

I'll admit I've become more crotchety since I've hit the big 3-0, but is it me or does anybody else think that these companies are playing themselves by shelling out all that money for shitty commercial?

This is part of the reason I didn't understand why the Saints took the ball to start the game. You know Manning is going to play well, but I'd rather have the ball to start the 2nd half and feel like I'm more in the groove.
