Is it just me or does Norv Turner's neck look like a meticulously crafted mosaic of skin? Chargers pressers must be rather distracting if you're in the front rows, having to look at that.

Also, I would like to extend special recognition to Alex Henery for being the Eagles' offense today, and all in one quarter at that. Truly, a mammoth effort to get into FG range twice today.

No dog in the fight, but definitely psyched for this matchup between two of the best in the NFL.

Will be interesting to see obvious matchup between Raven's D and Pat's O

Not to sound harsh, but how many people can you honor before the start of a football game... and really honor them?  A player's brother, Sabol, a Mexican flag football team, and I don't know who else.  Give one of them the spotlight and don't dilute the honor.

The introduction was extremely gaudy and unnecessary, no matter how attractive the woman singing might be.

The guitar-strumming national anthem singer was great.  Kept it simple and didn't try to stand out.

Quick whistle by the amateur referees.  The NFL rules and referees continue to embarass themselves.  Let the boys play.

It appears that Brady was thinking about his wife during the snap, missed it completely.

And still thinking during the sack...

Great kick by Mesko, poor coverage.

I think this is a big game for Brady and the Pats. Yes, it's early in the season, but you have to wonder if the Pats run in the top tier is wearing thin after last week's loss.

Flacco threw a beautiful pass to Steve Gregory of the Patroits. Really superb except for the wrong team aspect.

...and the Patroits turn it into points. It will be 7-0 Patroits after the PAT.

I could be wrong, but the it looked like the line judge was setting up for a good block on the last play. If they are going to officiate passively, this could be useful later.

Also, in a silent tribute to vintage character actors, the referee bears a resemblance to Ray Walston.

Penalty for playing too rough, on the Ravens.  Now flags out the wazoo.  The referees are going to get flag happy here, mark my words.

...and Bill Belichick will probably want to take this to the Maryland Court Of Appeals, seeing as these are replacement referees and not necessarily experts in their  field.

Honestly, I get that they aren't as good as the actualy NFL refs, but I think people whine about them waaaay too much.  Especially the announcers (not just this game but many NFL games). I tend to agree with Jerry Jones on this topic.

The refs have twice pushed back first downs on New England, but reversed things to keep the Ravens going, or ignoring the same call when Baltimore does it (offensive pass interference). But while I don't think they're very good, I find the announcers and talking heads complaining about bad calls that don't look any different than the bad calls the regular refs made, but somehow make a big deal about it being because they're replacements, where it's just because refs often suck. TD Pats.

Oh don't worry about the Browns coming to town Thursday night, Baltimore. Your third stringers and blind grandmothers can beat Weeden and Richardson just fair and square, thanks.
