OT: Sunday NCAA Elite 8 Open Thread

This game is on pace for the 80s. Ridiculously hot shooting by both teams. Izzo is furious on the sideline when on D.

My two wishes for the day. MSU needs to lose big. Obviously out of spite. Also, I need Duke to win, and hopefully make it to the Championship game. If they beat WVU, I think I win my bracket. Other than that, just hoping to see some more awesome basketball.

Also, sidebar, I discovered that a kid from my High School is the mascot for Butler. Interesting.

Open liquor bottle, sack of weed, and two guns? I want to hang out with the UT b-ball team.

Very weird when supporting a State team feels like cheering for the good guys.

Close game so far. I could care less who wins. My roommate is a die hard State fan so I guess I'll root for them so that he doesn't kill himself.

One Big Ten team in the Final Four is good for the conference. At this point it's really their tournament to lose now.

i wonder if the NCAA is freaking out that the final 4 could be butler, baylor, wvu, and msu/tenn? those aren't exactly giant TV markets...i wouldn't be surprised to see duke get a little officiating assistance today at the behest of the NCAA

but I am getting SO sick of Verne and Raft mentioning how Nix is really big (fat) and how Green is big, but not as big as Nix, so he's faster. Also, I don't know HOW many times they've mentioned that salute thing that that Tennessee player does. It's getting really quite irritating.

bruce pearl's son is not very good at basketball. im having trouble understanding why he gets so much playing time. he doesnt appear to be contributing anything...

the calls not being made against MSU is remarkable. travels, hard body fouls, slaps on the arm, etc.

hell, i took MY shirt off Mr. Pearl on one of those bad calls.

I can't stand the "top of the backboard" camera angle for watching live action. It is usually not high enough to get a feel for the spacing of the players. The more I see it, the more it pisses me off.

hmmm...overall, ive thought the officiating has been pretty good. there have been one or two no-calls, but i think its been pretty even on both sides. i like the fact that the refs are just letting the teams play a hard fought, physical game. i hate it when they take over and dictate the flow of the game.

Can't go a game without slipping in a shot at Beilein, can you?

There's a bit of a strategic difference in guarding the inbounder when your opponent can run the baseline (as in our game) and when he can't (as in this one).

No more than you can't go without mentioning moving on the baseline multiple times every time you post on an inbound play.

But I'm less frustrated with Beilein who admits he would have called timeout and done some stuff different than the posters who were so insistent that no one else would ever defend the play in any other way.
