OT- Summer Thread: What Movie do you have to see to be a Man?

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
So even though the recruits are coming fast and furious, and OSU is keeping us entertained, we're due for some more threads just for fun. As I'm flipping channels tonight, I see that AMC is showing "The Man With No Name Trilogy", which I can't go by without watching a few scenes. Because it's mancard viewing 101. Which led me to think - What other movies do you have to see before you can have a full fledged graduate mancard, and not just a learner's permit? The Dirty Dozen came to mind, and I could probably think of a lot more, but I'd rather hear what you all think. So crack open a manly beer, fire up cable or your various video player, put on something with a lot of testosterone, and chime in.

Real men will go see Bridesmaids without the caveat of saying they did it to appease the girlfriend.

This movie was hilarious. It was far and away funnier than The Hangover Part II.

Thus far the best comedy of 2011.

The Big Lebowski. You will learn what happens when you f*ck a stranger in the ass, and that nobody f*cks with the Jesus. Also, Tombstone and Unforgiven are choice.

You're right to each his own..  I thought the fast paced drug sequences were SOOOO cheesy.. Along with the afterschool messages.. DRUGS ARE BAD.. lol cool story.. all drug movies seem much to cliche anymore.. Blahhh...  I guess Nasa scientists probably didn't like the movie The Core either though...

Beaches.

Because if you've seen it and admit it and tell people you've seen it then it means you have the balls to say "yeah, I've seen Beaches. So what?". And that takes balls... Which defines being a man.

Me and one my roommates went across the hall to watch it with some girls at their place, but in Cheers Norm had just called Cliff a "pants wearing type of guy", and we couldn't stop referring to the Nick Nolte character as NOT a pants wearing type of guy. Needless to say, we were not invited back.

Anything with Steve McQueen: Bullit, Le Mans, TThe Sand Pebbles, The Getaway (where he actually did slap the shit out of Ali MacGraw).

Also agree with the Die Hards and Francis Ford Coppola movies.

My final vote though goes to Saving Private Ryan, just imagine being one of those guys storming the beaches and try not shitting yourself.

Also include Band of Brothers and The Pacific

great movie, also Chinatown, the role was written for Jack Nicholson, literally. Night of the Hunter is one of the greats.Hobsons Choice is funny, but very relevant to men everywhere. The entire Band of Brothers series is great because its a true story, even though David Schwimmer is in a few episodes. The Quiet Man because every manly movie collection must have John Wayne in it. Remains of the Day is about a man who works too hard his whole life and never stopped to live, it was even remade just 2 or 3 years later I believe. (It's not a chick flick, but passes as one.) Once upon a Time in the West is a trippy western, also it's Sergio Leones masterpiece and Henry Fonda plays a great bad guy for a change. Bullitt with Steve McQueen was a landmark action film and was paid tribute to in The Bodyguard. In the movie The Bodyguard Kevin Costner watches a movie called Yojimbo (japanese for Bodyguard) which was copied almost frame for frame in the western A Fist Full of Dollars. Both Yojimbo and 'Dollars had sequals titled Sanjuro (30 years old) and For A Few Dollars More. Casablanca is a required viewing movie that came out just before America got into WW2. It deals with when a man should stay out of it and when he should step in (of course it centers around a woman.)  The Big Country is a required viewing Western along the same lines of what it means to be a man. Great film.
