He is a senior so his playing days in Oregon are Over. I think this may be a little harsh, but I am OK with it. Maybe MSU should take a look at this.
OT Sucker Puch Cost Oregon's Blount his Season
Someone said it would be 2 games in another thread... I LOL to myself.
Yeah, that was me. I am a wise sage.
I heard Chris Peterson maybe on ESPN first take say that it would be handled internally.
I'd guess a one game suspension. Considering the guy is a back up OL who is undersized, I don't think it will nearly be as big of a loss as Blount is going to be.
Saw it on espn with time of story at 10:21, did not look paast first page. My BAD
This morning when I saw the highlights and I use that term loosely. The first thought that went through my mind was I hope they do not suspend him in a way that causes him to not get a degree. Upon further review I found that he had been suspended earlier in the year. If this was a first major offense I would think he deserved another chance but I agree with the punishment that was set for him. I hope that RR would have done the same thing. I hope nobody ever embarrasses us like that.
given that he was taunted. One instant and your whole season is gone? But obviously, there's more to the story that we don't know.
Did Chris Petersen consult Jim Tressel as to how to deal with his player?
I saw on ESPN before (maybe on PTI) that he'll be suspended from the team for the year but they will not revoke his scholarship which means that if he wants to, he should still be able to get his degree.
"How about that ass whoppin?" is what the Boise State player shouted at Blount. I hope you enjoyed it Blount. No senior season, No NFL, and CFL does not want problem players either. Dumb Ass.
What cost him the season was how he acted after the punch. He started hitting a couple of teammates in the chest and facemask, he acted like a crazy man talking to himself on his way out of the stadium, he almost beat a couple of fans in the stadium, he seemed ready to strangle somebody from the Oregon staff, and he was ready to fight the cops too. That is one major meltdown!!! I can understand the decision of Oregon's coach. You'd want to send a clear message that antics like that won't be tolerated.
As for the Boise State player to be punished with a suspension, like some here are suggesting, I don't find that necessary. He got KTFD on national TV and for me it's a good enough lesson for somebody that doesn't know when to let certain things go. Yesterday I got negged for saying he deserved it because I think some MGoBloggers thought I condone violent retaliations. I clearly said what Blount did was shameful, but hey, just like somebody (Blount) shouldn't play the game if he can't take a loss, just like somebody (Blount) shouldn't talk trash if he can't take some trash talk back, somebody (Boise State player) shouldn't hit in a provocative way an emotional and disappointed man going about his business if he can't take a hit back. No suspension though, I'm sure he learned his lesson.
He has had numerous problems at Oregon and was actually suspended in February for the ubiquitous "violation of team rules". This is a guy who needs some counseling.
Funny how time changes certain things. Imagine a coach doing that these days.
i think it's BS. Other sports would have handled it differently. The Boise State guy was a wise ass and got punched. Big deal. Suspend Blount a few games or expel him. If he's gone for the season, he should also be expelled. If the same thing happened at the bar he would have been fine. It just happened on National TV.
I saw this live on ESPN last night and the punch was bad but much worse was what he did afterwards. He was completely out of control like a total lunatic, and had to be restrained by half a dozen people - including cops - from jumping in the stands and getting into it w/ Boise St. fans. Visions of Ron Artest flashed through my head, it very easily could have been that bad were it not for the very quick restraining by the coaches and cops. The season long suspension is deserved, that is just inexcusable behavior, period, even though the Boise player taunted him. And the Boise player did definitely taunt him and is IMO getting off pretty easy. He should definitely sit out a couple games... what he did taunting Blount was just plain douchey, and it looked like he hit him on the shoulder or something, so there was physical instigation, not just verbal taunting.
I have a feeling the punch alone wouldn't have gotten him shut down for the season, but that it was the Ron Artest-style RAGE TOWARDS EVERYONE!!!! that got him in bigger trouble.
Just my uninformed speculation, of course.
And maybe he can get a medical redshirt? Does insanity count as a medical condition?
