OT: The Strokes

Submitted by Webber's Pimp on

It's been a great year for music thus far. Radiohead had a new album release a couple of weeks ago. And now The Strokes are set to release new material...

Here's the Spin Magazine review...

FYI, "Is This It" (their debut album in 200) has been consistently recognized one of the top 2 or 3 albums of the decade. FWIW, I liked their sophmore album even better...

they're also excellent live. If you're lucky enough to see them at coachella or bonnaroo this year they are worth the price of admission alone. I saw them last summer at Lollapalooza and loved every second of it.

I'm very excited to hear what the new album sounds like. I will read the Spin review with a giant grain of salt as they generally don't match my personal taste at all. (they want to have LCD Soundsystem's baby and I think LCD are pretentious tone-deaf trash)

actually, thinking back most of the stuff on the bud stage was excellent. Arcade Fire, Black Keys, phoenix, yeasayer, and the strokes. Gogol Bordello was the absolute BEST there, though. (Parkways Stage) I want to do Lolla again but the acts I'm hearing sound whole-heartedly lame.

Three new songs from Angles are available on the interwebs.

"Life Is Simple in the Moonlight"

"Under Cover of Darkness"

"You're So Right"

You're So Right definitely tempered my high hopes for the new album, but we'll just have to see.  Is This It and Room On Fire are two of my favorite albums ever.

I believe You're So Right is a b-side to the single. So probably just a chance to get a little different sound out there.

I respect them and think they make good records, but I am hard pressed to name one song of theirs that people will remember 20 years from now. They look like the coolest band in the world, but are they really as great as their core fans and certain critics think? Maybe they are, but I have a tough time seeing it.

Yes, the Strokes are that good. I'm eagerly waiting for the new album. Based on "Under Cover of Darkness" I'm excited, but I was a bit worried after "You're So Right." "Life is Simple in the Moonlight" wasn't too shabby on SNL.

The Strokes were my favorite band on earth for a period of a few years, during the run of "Is this It" and "Room on Fire." I've seen them live five times, including this year's Lolla show, which was their first stateside show in at least 3 years. I'm definitely stoked for the new album. I don't really give a shit about Spin's album reviews, frankly, as although I get that magazine (for free, strangely) I don't necessarily agree with their reviews. HowEVA, I hope Angles gets back to more of the sound we heard on their first two albums and less of the stuff we saw on "First Impressions of Earth" which I wasn't a big fan of.
