OT - The Story of Every Heisman Trophy
The Washington Post tracked down the location of each Heisman Trophy and wrote an interesting summary. Some highlights: Desmond Howard's is at his house in Miami next to his Super Bowl MVP award, Woodson's is at his mother's house in Freemont Ohio, and Tom Harmon's is safe and sound in Ann Arbor. The whole article is well worth reading.

The first Heisman Trophy was used as a doorstop.

The 1935 trophy is really worth checking out if you're ever in Chicago. Take the family down to the Museum of Science and Industry, and take a five minute detour to UChicago. It's in a cool rotunda they built in the new student athletics center, surrounded by a bunch of really cool old sports memorabilia in museum cases. You can just walk right in and see it.

moved the old Big Ten Championship banners from their old fieldhouse over to the new one. I always thought it was really cool to see those old banners hanging in that gym.
In the old building the gym was upstairs from ground level and you walked up a flight of stairs, at the top was a display case in the center of the room with the Heisman Trophy.

Pretty interesting find...thanks for sharing.

Ron Dayne's is on display at a Buffalo Wild Wings. That seems...oddly appropriate.

For some reason, Billy Cannon's story is oddly compelling:
"Cannon, who followed his football career with a very different career as a prison dentist, loaned his Heisman Trophy to a restaurant in Baton Rouge called T.J. Ribs, where it sits in a revolving glass case."
I would actually be interested in more of the details about how being a prison dentist and this restaurant combine to make this happen. Call me strange

Wright Thompson wrote this profile of Cannon a few years ago for ESPN OTL.

Tebow said his trophy is at his parents' home in Jacksonville, behind family pictures and photographs from his sister's wedding -- symbolizing, he says, that individual achievements are less important, no matter their significance, than family milestones.
Although I can't stand him as a player, he seems to have his head on pretty straight.

No matter your though on him as an NFL QB or how the media, mainly ESPN, never shut up about him, you can't deny he seems like a great dude and very genuine.

I like the outlook here, also.
Others I found interesting:
- Eddie George and the case of the LGA security guy breaking off a finger fom the trophy
- Charlie Ward loaning it to the public library in his hometown of Thomasville, GA, which is a very small town.
- Love that George Rogers uses it for good - charges $5 for you to hold and take pictures with it and uses that money to help first-generation college students
- Love the Pete Dawkins story. Hat rack!

Where exactly in Michigan Stadium is Harmon's Heisman? Or do they mean the display area in Schembechler Hall?

Didn't they move it to one of the suite level concourses?

Yup, there is a case with the trophy and some other memorabilia.

I forgot he won the Heisman.

Even thought they are individual awards, football is a team effort and I for one would give mine to my University. If I were a Buckeye (or OJ) I would sell it on e-bay.
Edit: Now that I've read the article I discovered the Universities get their own copy.
Does Desmond really have an Emmy?
