"Title says it all" is an overused term on the MGoBoard.

No that misstep was like broccoli in the teeth, it needed to be pointed out.
February 20th, 2013 at 9:45 AM ^
He'll land somewhere. He's a reliable player who had one down season on a team with horrible QBing. I hate seeing players like him get released, but he'll probably benefit in the end by leaving KC.
February 20th, 2013 at 9:50 AM ^
but who doesn't benefit from leaving the Chiefs, finances aside.
February 20th, 2013 at 9:48 AM ^
decent WR in the NFL, he would be most benefited by going to the Pats or Broncos. My Lions sure could use him in the slot if the pot was right.
I still look up videos of him returning kicks. Even if he didn't take it to the house, he always seemed to somehow burst past the 35 yard line on KOR.
Best of luck Steve.
February 20th, 2013 at 9:53 AM ^
Stevie B was one of the best. Electric on returns with multiple takebacks to the house.

I miss him dearly...
February 20th, 2013 at 10:25 AM ^
I didn't mean he never did; I was trying to say he didnt do it as often as Hester or someone. Breaston was one of the greats on KOR/PR in M history. I guess I just hold him to a high standard. Did not mean to take anything away from him.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:53 AM ^
But who actually does it as often as Hester (in his prime at least)?
February 20th, 2013 at 9:56 AM ^
The thing I still remember most about Breaston is the play he didn't get a chance to make - Tyler, please give Steve the ball.

February 20th, 2013 at 10:49 AM ^
I tried to keep it as vague as possible so it might be overlooked.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:35 AM ^
The Lions don't need another slot receiver; they already have Burleson and Broyles. The Lions need a deep threat WR2 to complement Johnson.
I hear Titus Young is available, they should take a chance on him. Problems or no, the kid has potential.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:46 AM ^
just no.
they gave him a chance and he blew it up, BADLY
hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:53 AM ^
Are you responding to my Titus Young comment? Because that was a joke.
As a matter of principle, I refuse to use that stupid "/s" tag.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:51 AM ^
February 20th, 2013 at 11:58 AM ^
Oh my god, I was joking. Of course they aren't going to re-sign him. They just released him a couple of weeks ago, which came after benching him a couple of months ago, which came after suspending him last off season.
That said, I stand by my assertion that Breaston probably isn't the type of WR that the Lions need right now.
February 20th, 2013 at 1:16 PM ^
The Lions are picking up Titus Young??? oh great!
February 20th, 2013 at 3:59 PM ^
But I thought Burleson was an outside receiver. (Right now on ESPNs depth chart the Lions 1st stringers are Calvin...and Durham. They also have Scheffler at TE and Pettigrew as the starting FB. So I'm confused as hell.) But when everyone was healthy last season, this is how I remember them lining up:
WR: Calvin and Burlson
Slot: Young (or Broyles)
TE: Pettigrew
RB: Leshoure (or Bell or Smith or no RB and put in Scheffler)
As I see Breaston as preferable to Broyles, I'd take him in a heartbeat not that we have Titus "Cancer" Young off of the team. (And holy hell, that was so sarcastic that the /s tag would have been redundant. I don't think that there is a single Lions fan who want to try to rehabilitate Young.) So the Lions fan in me would love to see Breaston become a Lion. He could be the "starting" slot receiver and might (should) be preferable to Logan in the return game.
However, the Michigan fan in me would hate to see him go to the Lions because they are the Lions. (I feel like sometimes I watch the Lions just to see them crash and burn. Does that make me like a NASCAR fan? If so, is that bad?)
February 20th, 2013 at 9:50 AM ^
He'd be a great #3/4 and return man.

February 20th, 2013 at 10:19 AM ^
was absolutely great. However he hasn't taken one back in 2 years, and is a drain on the WR spot. He's been totally overpaid for a while too. Consensus here is that he needs a fresh start. Whether that's with the new coaching staff here in Chicago or elsewhere is TBD.

Here's the local take, FWIW...

I don't really think it's OT if it's news about a former Michigan player and his football career.
February 20th, 2013 at 9:57 AM ^
First time posting in over 2 years on the board, wasn't 100% so I figured better safe than sorry. Rule of thumb players don't need "OT?"

I guess this files in both "Michigan" and "Pro Sports", but as a general rule well titled threads don't need modifying
What's the offtopic policy?
In the offseason, offtopic posts are tolerated. During football season they are discouraged and may be subject to removal depending on how alert the moderators are. What counts as on- and off- topic?
ONTOPIC
- Anything Michigan sports related
- Anything related to other Big Ten teams or upcoming opponents
- Stuff about the blog itself
- University of Michigan topics that don't relate to sports
GRAY AREA
- College sports in general
- Ann Arbor
UNWELCOME, KTHX
- Politics
- Drew Sharp, Ace Williams, Mike Valenti. Saying stupid and/or false things about Michigan in order to get Michigan fans upset is a tried and true way to phish for clicks. Let's not feed the trolls.
OFFTOPIC
- Pro sports of any variety
- Everything else
We will let pro sports topics slide even during football season but "everything else" posts are likely to get the axe.

It's "TO Steve Breaston" as in "pitch it"
February 20th, 2013 at 9:54 AM ^
Please Lions, do something right and sign this guy!! Woodson will tag along with him!
February 20th, 2013 at 10:09 AM ^
Huh what? That would mean signing a good, reliable reciever through FA and why do that when some 20 year old is just tearing sh*t up at the combine and/or been out of football for a year and is 40 pounds overweight.....and with the 5th pick of the 1st round the Lions select Honey Badger.

BREAKING: Detroit Lions intend to switch Tyrann Mathieu to WR.
February 20th, 2013 at 9:11 PM ^
I wouldn't put it past them
February 20th, 2013 at 10:11 AM ^
Would like to see the Dolphins sign him and Wallace and use there 1st rounder on the defensive side of the ball
February 20th, 2013 at 10:15 AM ^
Breaston, Freeney, and Woodson would be huge pick ups for the Lions..
February 20th, 2013 at 10:34 AM ^
It is pretty funny how every time a decent ex-Wolverine hits the free agent market, we all make the case for why he would fit best on our team.
My turn: Breaston should go to the giants. I could see Breaston as a good number 3/4 there. Eli is a good QB who can make him a better receiver.
Also, we should pick up Woodson, since our secondary is completely lacking.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:38 AM ^
Speaking of former Michigan DBs hanging out in the Giants' defensive backfield, is Stevie Brown on the free agency market this season or is he still under contract?
He had a good season, hopefully it will turn into money somewhere for him.
February 20th, 2013 at 11:18 AM ^
I'd like to see Breaston in Denver or Chicago, but really all I care about is that former Wolverines don't end up in Detroit.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:43 AM ^
He'd look great in an orange helmet IMO. Stevie B........the Cleveland Browns welcome you with open arms! We need receivers in the worst way and they're going let Cribbs go so he could fill two openings all by himself.
Wait a minute what am I saying? It's logical....he fills a need and he would come reasonably priced. Therefore it can never happen here in C-Town.
Say hello to the newest New England Patriot - Steve Breaston.
February 20th, 2013 at 10:49 AM ^
Damn it, I already used up my Titus Young joke earlier in the thread! "Young to Cleveland" would have been way better...
February 20th, 2013 at 1:38 PM ^
Titus Young!? Are you kidding? He's been cut twice this month already.
(not using the stupid tag either)

I don't think I'd say Boldin "disappeared" after leaving Arizona. He had 800+ yard seasons and made some big plays at key times for the Ravens. And Breaston pretty much matched his Arizona production his first year in KC (~700+ yards with a few TDs). Really, 2012 was the big drop off, which is probably attributable more towards bigger issues than Breaston's ability (e.g., the trainwreck that was the KC passing O).
Warner was absolutely a great QB, but I think it's unfair/inaccurate to suggest that the only reason Breaston and Boldin had success in Arizona was because Warner made them "look good."

The Cardinals lost that Superbowl.....
February 20th, 2013 at 7:22 PM ^
Compound complex sentences can get tricky, and the middle part of my opening sentence was obiviously a subordinate clause, so I completely understand why you may have thought it was dependent on the clause that preceded it. However, inserting a comma before the conjunction that seperates the 1st and 2nd clause represents a shift in the sentence's focus, namely that the 2nd clause will most likely be dependent on whatever follows it, which in this was Anquan Boldin. To put it simply, I was saying Anquan Boldin had won the Super Bowl (a few weeks ago with Baltimore to be specific).
P.S. - Forget that b.s. your teachers told you about "run-on" sentences. As long as they're not abused, they can be infinitely more effective than what's boringly considered proper.

This thread made me think of Tyler Ecker not pitching that GODDAMNED ball. Thanks
