OT: Star Wars Rogue One Trailer 2

Submitted by reshp1 on

It's hard for me to not get excited about a new Star Wars movie, but I'm really, really pumped for this one. I think without the baggage of the main story arc and characters, they have the freedom and potential to make a great movie period, not just a great Star Wars movie. The cast looks great and the action sequences look weighty and powerful. Plus Darth freaking Vader, with James Earl Jones reprising the voice acting role.

I'm very interested to see how it goes. There's a huge creative sandbox since they're outside the main storyline. Really excited to see what the creative team can do with all that Disney money.

Agree if this succeeds I can see a whole new world open up for them to run with. Past Episodes have been tied to Sith/Jedi and I feel this could open it all up. I know Vader is in this or atleast teased, but I don't see it being a huge aspect.

I am just stoked to see more of the story as i have craved it for so many years.

Ahh, ok. Shows how little I know; I was just about to bitch about a THIRD death star and how the Empire keeps beating their heads against the wall with this decades-old technology. AT-ATs, old school Tie fighters and the like in the modern era of the Force Awakens would have been like our military resurrecting hueys and Sherman tanks...

Trailer looks....fine. A little generic honestly.  If it wasn't Star Wars it would look kind of dull IMO.  Can't deny that some great people are in it, but I can't find myself even 1/10th as hyped for this as I was after watching the traiers for Force Awakens though (which were some of the most awesome trailers I'd ever seen).

I don't tend to be a huge fan of prequels in general though, so that may be coloring my view.

I'm unsure what the prequel movies have to do with Rogue One. No one of significance (quite possibly no one at all) who was involved with the production of the prequels is involved with that of Rogue One.

I said I'm not a fan of prequels in general.  Meaning ANY prequels of ANY movies.  I didn't say anything specifically about the existing Star Wars prequels.

I prefer movies that go foward and try to tell new stories where we don't know what is going to happen, not movies that fill in details of stories where we already know the outcome.  I just tend to find that boring.   We already know pretty much what happens in Rogue One.  Sure, we don't know the details, but we know the basic outcome.

I will say Force Awakens really opened my eyes to more Star Wars movies. The Jedi/Sith weren't overly centrical and I feel Rouge One will just continue to open the world up.

I watched the trailer and thought man what an amazing Movie and it doesn't appear to even have much if any lightsaber battles. It was just beauty to the eyes. Can't wait until it hits in December.

I watched Episodes 1 2 3 and now crave someone to redo those three and give them the proper look much like Force Awakens and Rouge One.

The problem with Rey, IMO, wasn't that she was female.  The problem was that she was the most unbelieably amazing character in movie history.  She flies ships!  She repairs ships!  She battles with lightsabers!  She uses the force at master levels with no traiining!   She defeats Sith in lightsaber battles despite only having picked a saber up for the first time about 30 minutes ago!

It was like watching an 8-year old play Star Wars, just making up all the stuff they could do on the fly. There was literally no skill or power that she didn't possess, with little or no training or reason to back it up.

Now, maybe they will create a story plot point in the next movie to explain why Rey is a super-being and everything will then make sense.  But out of context, her character is just plain silly, and that has nothing to do with gender.  We'll have to see.

I get what you're saying, but Luke managed to stay alive in a dogfight that killed basically everyone else, kept Vader from locking on to him, made an impossible shot without computer assistance, then taught himself telekinesis, all with only the training he got on the way to Alderaan. The Force has always been a bit of a plot crutch to quickly elevate unlikely heros from humble beginnings to standing against the most powerful villains in the galaxy.

while Luke did some rather remarkable things in the first movie, he also would have been blown into atoms if Han hadn't decided to come back to save his ass.  He also didn't spend the entire movie doing unbelievably crazy amazing things--sure he survived on the Death Star along with the rest of the crew but outside of the chasm swing he didn't really do anything any more amazing than anyone else.   He was also given a backstory about how he flew a ship somewhat similar to the X-Wing fighters back on Tatooine, though that storyline was cut from the film which admittedly does make his piloting in the end of the film seem over the top.

Rey on the other hand might as well have been the only character in the new movie for all the help she got from anyone else.  She essentially did everything 100% by herself in the entire film without any help.

Instantly learned to fly the Millenium Falcon at a master level, by herself

Instantly learned to FIX the Millenium Falcon BETTER THAN GODDAM HAN SOLO AND CHEWBACCA, all by herself.

Instantly learned how to use a lightsaber, all by herself, no training at all from anyone.

Instantly learned the Jedi-mind-trick WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING THE JEDI MIND TRICK EXISTED, all by herself, no training necessary.

The list goes on and on.  Unless there is some backstory to her character that has yet to be told, like she is some Jedi prodigy who has had her memory wiped, or the freakin' incestuous love child of Luke and Leia, her character is flat out ridiculous.
