OT: Stanley Cup Finals Game 6. Chicago at Boston
I am suprised this thread has not been created. It is the start of the 2nd period, Boston leads 1-0. Boston has 20 seconds of a power play. Chicago is lucky to only be down 1-0 after Boston came out going all out.
Game is on the CBC and NBC. (WADT channel 38 for those in Detroit due to the fireworks...doh...)
(for all of us non-baseball fans). Heres to anxiously waiting for fall camp to start!
It is unbearable over here in Chi. Tons of new Toews jerseys with the tags still on coming out tomorrow, I'm sure.
Hate the Blackhawks so much, but still, I can't ever miss watching the glorious Cup presentation.
Definitely an unnecessary amount of Detroit Sucks chants, especially considering the fact that there was actually a lot to cheer about. Having said that, being in Wrigleyville was pretty awesome.
GO 'HAWKS BABY!!!!! WE ARE THE CHAMPS ONCE MORE!!! I'M GETTING HAMMERED!!!
I've never lost respect for a player so fast before. It's the Stanley Cup Finals, and he's skating at half speed almost the entire series.
The silver lining for Wings fans is not facing the Blackhawks often in the future. Being in different divisions, there will be fewer games starting next season. And in the playoffs, it will be rare when BOTH the Wings & Hawks make it all the way to the Stanley Cup.
to get the Leafs, Canadiens, Bruins, Rangers on the schedule more and play in a league without any 3 hour flights and 10 pm starts in the playoffs.
for 4 Stanley Cups in the last 6 seasons with 3 different teams, lifting it twice. Wish the Wings could have held on to that guy.
08 Pittsburgh
09 Detroit
10 Chicago
13 Chicago
Congrats to Hawks fans on this board, but let's start some offseason talk. With the Wings moving east who's going to be their biggest competition in the division? It seems like the Bruins are going to have to lock up Rask which means Horton and others might not get the $ they seek and the Leafs yesterday in typical Leafs fashion traded solid players for a backup goalie, so are the Habs going to be the team to gun for in our division? Or do the Senators and Bruins pose a bigger threat?
The Wings are far and away my favorite professional sports team, but man I have always loved the Habs in the East. It's sort of shitty that they are now in the same division, and on principle I have to abandon my second team.
Anyway, Montreal is pretty solid, and Carey Price is definitely one of the top 5 tenders in the league (Jimmy has also proved that he belongs after this year). Subban is obviously the Norris winner, but the guy is an offensive stud with a cannon of a slap shot and great one-timer. Should be some great games ahead between the Wings and the Habs!
lol nice
Good point. 13th Cup that Scotty has been a part of, which is just incredible. Congrats to a true hockey legend.
yep, and the hawks lost Byfuglien to the flames last time due to the salary cap. I am hoping Bickell will move on over to the Wings with the Mule being a shell he once was.
They are in much better financial shape than they were after 2010.
On this very board, matter of fact, Wings fans gloated that Chicago would be gutted by the salary cap after the last Cup. This is where the Bowmans, father and son, are key. They are unsentimental, and will trade off non-essential parts of the team as necessary. Their eye for talent is huge, allowing them to restock with more good talent at a good price.
The Blackhawks infrastructure appears built for the long haul, and they are willing to pay as much as they're allowed to in order to win and compete. Between the United Center and TV, their income has allowed them to put together a team free agents want to be a part of. When a community is attractive, along with a team, you have the seeds for long term success. Some players who want to stay are willing to give a "home team discount." Other free agents who want the chance to win the cup are willing to come to this kind of team for less than they would go elsewhere.
IIRC, the Wings will be hamstrung slightly as long as they continue in Joe Louis. But the Wings have a history that surpasses all other NHL teams in the US. (The Habs and Leafs, on the other hand, will always be at the top of the hockey world.)
Congrats on the win. Zero productivity at work for me because I got no sleep in Wrigleyville last night haha
Perhaps this is coming from a Red Wing' fan's perspective, but I'll throw it out there. To me, the Blackhawks are the Buckeyes of the NHL. Some extremely unlikeable individual players (Hossa, Kane, for starters), the worst fans around, and a pattern of getting way more than their share of breaks.
Why do you think Hossa is unlikeable? I also despise the Hawks, but Marian Hossa is one of my favorite players. The guy is incredible, basically everything I wish Franzen would be (still bitter).
I understand Kane, a lot of people think he is a punk. I'll still root hard for him when he puts on the stars and stripes, though.
This is the second time I've seen a Wings fan say this, and I really don't get it. I mean, how often do you hear of Hawks fans pooping in coolers, or throwing shit at opposing fanbases. Just because we think Detroit sucks, does not mean there isn't at least grudging respect for the Red Wings.
Also, I'm not really sure what about Kane is particularly unlikable. Yeah, he's a bro, a drunk, and an idiot, but he's been 18 - 24 during almost all of that time. Would you rather he be Crosby? He also focused in over the offseason and lockout quite a bit, maturing a sizeable amount.
I personally troll'd a couple of apparent Blackhawk fans a few weeks ago. Sorry about all of that. Congrats on the Stanley Cup.
Ah what a beautiful win. I never had anything against the Bruins until this series and really enjoyed their win over the Nucks two years ago. But after dealing with Chara, Lucic, and Seguin this series? Yeah, fuck 'em.
