OT-Stafford, Suh, and Burleson Restructure Their Contracts

The title pretty much says it all.

I didnt think Stafford and Suh would do this but they showed that they want to win. Now if we can get Calvin to resign and lower his cap hit then we might be able to get some free agents and have a deeper run in the playoffs next year. What is everyones thoughts? Who could the Lions pursue. I know we need to resign Tulloch thats the number 1 priority but other than that anyone else?

Worried that we're aging too fast on O-line and line backers. Pick one or the other and draft some talent in the secondary.

Very bullish on my lie-downs going forward.

Now that Tacopants doesn't have a team anymore they should sign him to line up opposite CJ.  That would be a nightmare for opposing teams to scheme against.

Good to hear we have some cap to work with now. I'd like to see us get some real improvements at CB and on the O-line this time. Hoping we can snag a corner in the first round and maybe go O-line second or hit the free agency. I think we've got to re-sign Tulloch, as we won't be drafting a LB and he works quite well in our scheme.

I don't think there is any chance Tulloch resigns long term here. He took less money for a one year deal to prove himself so he could get a big payday this time around, Rosenhaus will get him a long term deal somewhere like Philly or Tampa where the money bountiful. The Lions are going to need to draft their MLB for the future in this draft or the next.

He's generally a solid tackler. The scheme really puts a lot of pressure on the LBs to react and that can make them look really bad. It kind of gets annoying. Just think of how many times it appeared we would blast the RB behind the line and he ran 10+ yards. I think our money would be better spent on a CB with great cover skills, though.

We need to sign BenJarvus Green-Ellis...he's not flashy, but he's a work horse. Has never fumbled in his entire career and he's still pretty young for a RB.

He also doesn't get injured like our other RBs. He and Best would be a nice compliment to each other with LeShoure as the #3 back.

Also Ben Grubbs. We need to draft an OT (or 2)...Grubbs could be the anchor we need between the tackles.

I think Green-Ellis & Grubbs are the two we need more than anything. And then I'd draft...

1. Dre Kirkpatrick/Jenoris Jenkins (better of the 2)
2. Mike Adams/Jonathan Martin (lower of the 2)
3. Bradon Boykin (Another CB and a HUGE playmaker)
4. Emmanual Acho (LB help/depth)
5. Michael Brewster/David Molk (We know who Molk thinks is the best)
6. A.J. Jenkins/Nick Toon/B.J. Cunningham/Junior Hemingway (B1G WRs unite!)
7. Kevin Koger/Ryan Van Bergen (homer pick)
7.

I'd be somewhat shocked if Adams went in round 1 after a rough combine.

I think one of the 2 CBs will easily still be on the board, that's why I listed both. Both have a couple question marks that could send them to the end of round 1. Not that we want a guy with a ton of question marks...but they both have incredible talent and would be too good to pass up IMO.

Martin was a high draft choice that fell to the 2nd round, that has now moved back into the 1st round...but part of that is because Adams has fallen to round 2.

have the best shot of falling, but Martin and Adams are probably the 3rd and 4th best OT prospects after Kalil and Reiff. I can see a scenario where teams trade up/reach for them like last year. James Carpenter from Bama went from 3rd rounded to 1st due to positional scarcity. Not saying its smart, just saying it happens.

If at all possible, Brandon Lloyd should be the top target. Although I've read he wants New England, and New England apparently wants him...and he would put up video game numbers with Brady, Welker and Hernandez...I still think the Lions would be a perfect fit. If Lloyd were in play with Stafford, those two would be 1 and 2 on my fantasy team. Well, not really, but they'd be dynamic.

I would love to see the Lions sign Brandon Jacobs as long as the money is right. The guy is an absolute beast and would complement a healthy Best making them the absolute definition of the Thunder/Lightning duo. Hopefully Leshoure comes back and does that, but I'm never optimistic with Achilles issues.

I've seen a few fans calling for Jacobs and I have to disagree. I think the money would be better spent on another position because he wouldn't do much for us without a lot of improvement on the O-line first. We still don't have that much cap and I think Jacobs would be too far down on our list of needs to use up some of the limited cap-space on.

I'm with you. Mainly because I am not really impressed with Jacobs. Every time I watch him he doesn't seem to do much. If he has a hole he can just rumble up then he can pick up some yards but even then he doesn't seem to break as many tackles as he should. Any time he goes east/west or slows his progess, it takes too long for him to accelerate and he doesn't get anything. He seems to think he is a full time RB and tries to run like one and he just lacks the speed, agility, and acceleration to do much. If one wants to get a RB, we could find one for a better deal. Personally, I think the money should be spent on a CB, RG, LB, or DE (as Vandenbosch is slowing down, although still crazy...looks around hesitantly).

I have to agree that he's not a long term solution to our running problem, but developing a line takes a long time. You're only as good as your weakest link when it comes to the line.

Jacobs is the kind of running back you can rely on to get those last 2 or 3 yards on a 3rd & 3 or 3rd & Goal even without great blocking. We've got no one who can do that right now, and our running game consists of mostly screen passes.

But yeah, my more practical side has to agree that we should make line a priority before running backs. It's just less fun.

I'm not gonna go Thom Brennaman or anything, but it is quite refreshing to see modern players who want to win so badly.  Maybe the Lions won't be one of the only two non-expansion teams not to ever play in the Super Bowl for too much longer.

Brandon Jacobs is only worth trying to sign if we think Mikel Leshoure is going to fail in that role.

The offense was good enough last year when we called the right plays the defense just needs a few more studs to get to the next level.
