OT - Spirit Airlines Interesting Marketing Efforts

Submitted by BigBlue02 on

So has anyone else received the interesting new marketing emails from Spirit Airlines? For those who don't know what I am talking about, I got an email from Spirit airlines today talking about their new specials. My specific email was about the "Many Unbelievably Fantastic Fares to Diving destinations," or MUFF to diving destinations (they actually used the acronym and in large letters in the email spelled out was "MUFF.") After laughing for a good hour at my desk (I actually had a tear rolling down my cheek), I did some investigating because I thought someone was playing a trick on me and found some other interesting specials from Spirit. One special is the "deep discounts" special (or the double D's special) and my personal favorite is the "Many Islands, Low Fare" special (or the MILF special). I thought it was a joke but Spirit airlines is actually coming out with this as their marketing effort for their special airfares. Does the board find this as funny as I do?

I remember the MILF special they ran because, naturally, some folks didn't find it funny. I thought it was hilarious. And now the MUFF diving special? Awesome.

but then I went to their website and it's right there on the home page. Hilarious. I wonder if they have a particular demographic group in mind, or whether it's come one, come all (so to speak).

Does anyone remember those Spirit commercials where the pitch was that the tickets were so cheap that you had enough money left over to take your cousins out to dinner? Then it showed some sleazy dude with his arm around two attractive women. Always made me wonder...

I swear a while back I remember seeing they had a "shocking" $1.11 sale with a flash animation pinky, middle, and index finger moving up and down along the ones. Hilarious they can get away with this.

I rode Spirit to Las Vegas last winter, and it was the most uncomfortable flight I have ever had. You can tell they jam an extra row or two of seats into their planes. I think when I was looking at tickets Spirit was $20-$30 cheaper but looking back I would pay that extra amount to get on a better flight

from Detroit to Miami.

The leg room on the plane that I flew in (I believe it was an Airbus) was severely lacking. I had to ride with my knees propped up against the window the enitre way - I don't know what I would have done if I had to sit in a middle seat. I'm 6'3'' and adequate leg room for me is a myth, but I've never experienced a flight quite as bad as that one.

If you're a tall guy, I suggest that you look elsewhere.
