OT: Sparty, No!
Gadhafi's foreign minister, that recently stepped down? Studied at MSU in the 70s.
Sparty, No!
Rumors that Koussa stepped down to play football for Dantonio are unconfirmed.

He'll be instated right away.
the bomb.
You'll almost die.

When he was at MSU, he was not yet the foreign minister of a corrupt, totalitarian regime.

Yes, but the correlation is much too strong to ignore.

Can you prove that he wasn't?
Obviously this is in jest. Just thought that detail about MSU was funny.

But I don't mock this stuff too often because then they come back with this guy:

This is why I never find these posts funny. So one of your alumni is a horrible horrible person?...well so is one of ours.

What is funny about that is there is an award he was given for being an outstanding math or physics student that is on display in east hall. When i was in school it was partially covered by a book to hide his name, but that was removed a couple years ago. Guess he was a little too smart since he was so hard to catch.
To be honest, he was basically a genious. I remember reading that his doctoral thesis was a topic that only a dozen or so people in the country would even understand. He was in Harvard before he could drive.
Yeah, that guy was/is pretty much a genius.

Unabomber >Libyan Gestapo agent. At least the Unabomber was acting on principles and was not just the lackey for an autocratic larcenous thug. Plus, Ted was an inspired writer too.
So murderous acts committed on principle are justifiable? You are so asking for Godwin's Law to be invoked.
I'm introducing octal9's Law now. Please popularize it:
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of someone mentioning Godwin's Law approaches 1.
edit: I think "PRETTY PINK PONY Law" might fit better.
Seconded.
We also have H. H. Holmes to our "credit"
Beat me to it. Likely one of the worst mass murderers in US history, but I think only like 9 were ever proven.
Not to mention Ann Coulter

It was his time at MSU that drove him in that direction :)

I think Sparty has been bringing over the children of Libyan elites for a while. With all the assets being frozen, so much for that huge donation they thought they'd get!
March 31st, 2011 at 12:58 PM ^
This was my first thought. Wasn't there a post 2 or 3 weeks ago about MSU having to cut ties to Libya, because they had some kind of funding relationship arranged?
Libya hasn't suffered this level of bad press since they tried to murder that physicist in that mall parking lot.
"THE LIBYANS!!!"
"Derka derka derka!"
Don't they still owe damages for destroying that Photomat booth?
I heard a report similar to this on NPR. Apparently the London School of Economics had to sever ties with Libya as well, because they had received a lot of donations and actually educated family members of Moammar Khadaffi. The school is an extremely prestigious one in the fields of economics. Apparently they have a poli-sci department as well; I don't know as much about it. Link to school website.
Sorry, double-post. Stupid "Stay Focused" extension, keeping me productive at work and making me double-post.
EDIT: Here's a link to the news story I was thinking of: "Michigan State University program for Libyans comes under scrutiny" (the article contains a link to the original Freep article, if one is so inclined).

He won't be playing football. He might be coaching one of their varsity teams, however. (hockey zing!)

He was the intelligence chief for Gadhafi, meaning he did the dirty work of eliminating political opponents.
Some suspect that he had significant involvement in the Lockerbie bombing.
Now that he's in the west, I anticipate he'll be speaking at MSU's commencement to provide moral guidance to graduates.

Darn it, I was just about to post this. Win for MGoBoard search.
Maybe this is who Dantonio learned to be such a disciplinarian from.
Stolz means "pride" in German.
What is is that they say about stones and glass houses...?
True. In some sense, pointing out anything about any school is pointless - in the long, 100+ year history of virtually any major university (or program), everyone has the same sh*t.
Still, just struck me as a funny detail. Hardly an indictment on MSU.
TOO CRAZY FOR MY BLOOD! THOSE SPARTANS ON CRACK.
Yeah, but remember: Madonna went to Michigan for a bit. Her crimes against humanity are all too well known.
they don't have what we got:
Although I find pretty much this whole thread to be pointless, reasons already stated before me.
Palin is foxier.
I see an Adams apple. Is that a man?
graduated from UM medical school in 1884. In fact, one can see his picture in the class photo from 1884 that hangs in the corrider that connects Cancer Geriatics to the main portion of the hospital.
Dr. Jack Kevorkian is also on that wall.
