OT (sort of): Schiano Losing Popularity in NJ
After Lloyd, before RR, for a brief, but not shiny moment, there was Greg Schiano. Then he decided to stay at Rutgers, allegedly to complete the process of building the Scarlet Knights into a major power (although many, if not most, believed he was waiting for Paterno to leave PSU -- isn't that like Waiting for Godot?0. Anyway, today's New York Times has an article noting the dissatisfaction with the Rutgers football program. For those interested, here's the link:

Eh well he was a name I had heard of that wasn't Ron English, Brady Hoke, or Mike DeBord. Like I said, I really didn't follow football closely, hell I barely knew of the glory that is mgoblog.

If a kinda boring one. I would have rather gone with Hoke or something rather than him. At least we would have continuity if we were going to do basically the same thing. Him not wanting the job was all win to me. MAYBE we're not quite as bad the last couple of years, but I didn't see nearly as much upside potential.

one sad day when we got turned down by that guy. Despite all the pain endured, I'm glad we got Rodriguez. His ceiling is so much higher than Schiano's. Sure, GS may have maintained a steady 9 win average, but would've topped out there. I feel like when the team is properly aged with Rodriguez we'll be chasing not only Big Ten titles, but National Championships. I think a drastic change was necessary. The Horror was the crack in the foundation, and yet another glaring sign that Michigan had to get with the times. Schiano would've been a lateral move at best while Rodriguez has gutted and rebuilt the program. I hope today's game against Iowa is another building block.

He had a few good years with Teal, Leonard, and Rice but after they left they've kind of been tepid.

Schiano's compensation package would cover a fifth of all funding cuts to state libraries.
I know this takes us perilously close to the realm of politics, but I have to say that as an educator I appreciated the early-season RichRod interview when he was asked about his struggles and said that he kept it in perspective because he knew there were people losing their jobs out there.

The major candidates for the Michigan job after Lloyd were Miles, Schiano and Rich Rod. With the benefit of hindsight, would anyone even try to argue that Miles or Schiano would have been better choices? I think not. Despite the difficulties the last two years, I like our decision going forward.

Miles is 6-0. I strongly prefer Rich for off the field reasons (and potentially on the field too), but I think someone could make a case. It wouldn't be me.

<br>I'm not someone who believes if you replace a coach you can't possibly find someone better, and you're doomed for years; but I don't see a lot of candidates out there right now either. So I'm hoping Rich succeeds. Today could go a long way towards that.

Although Schiano would have been less of a transition, I would not have wanted him because I think he would have tried to stay in the "Bo-mode". Les, for me, was not an option after hearing about his antics from friends who worked with him back-in-the-day at Michigan. Rich Rod was the one who talked about change and is bringing change to Ann Arbor, albeit more painfully then expected. With Rich Rod, I feel the team is better suited for the next decade in footbal.

Schiano came to Rutgers when they absolutely sucked and turned them around. I believe he has won 4 bowl games in a row (I may be off a bit). Not to be negative, because I believe in RR, but how have we done recently? Go Blue!

If Schiano was in fact offered the Michigan job and turned it down, at least in hindsight it was a major miscalculation on his part. I doubt he will be getting the PSU job at this point and Rutgers doesn't appear to be going anywhere. RR was the best coach available and he is on the verge of becoming a huge success here.
Also didn't like the way Schiano played and embarrassed Martin - no sympathy for him.

IIRC Schiano was also offered the Miami (yes, that Miami) job and turned it down. He must really like New Brunswick. lol

A comment was made about Schiano's compensation. Major college coaches are ALL paid way above reasonable comparisons. How much more is RR paid than U of M's President, Michigan's governor or even Obama? Yeah I suppose Obama does not help fill the Big House.
