OT: Soccer Wednesday!

Submitted by uncle leo on

Come on guy that always starts these threads, where are you at?? I don't think I can do near the job.

Barcelona is all but going home, tied 0-0 to Juventus, down 3-0 overall.

Monaco up 2-1 on Dortmund, 5-2 overall.

Couple of surprise semi-finalists, that's for sure.

I'm tired of Barcelona winning so much, but I was rooting for them in this round against Juve. The defense-first mentality of the Italian team is so hard to watch, especially when compared to Barcelona's high-flying forwards. In the other game, Monaco is up 3-1 and 6-3 overall, so that one's over. Kylian Mbappe has been getting a lot of attention, that's for sure.

Feel bad for Dortmund as they got off to a bad start with the attack last week. Monoco is better then most think though so who knows who would have won without the extra drama. A lot of players at Monoco are making money right for transfers next year.

Does Ronaldo's legacy catch up to Messi in terms of greatness at all at this point with Real Madrid moving forward with a Ronaldo hat-trick and Barcelona going out?

Catch-up?  Ronaldo sees him in the rear-view mirror already.

Will only be further in the distance when Ronaldo is holding the trophy in Wales as the first ever back-to-back winner.

Hala Madrid!

Yeah I think for sure it helps Ronaldo in the rivalry. As for whether that's catching up or pulling ahead... I don't know. It's an amazing rivalry. I'd take Messi to start my team, but it's not a no-brainer by any means.

I love the ball movement of Monaco's midfield and front line, their speed generates so many good chances.  And give credit to Juve, their rough style (and a pretty awful ref) controlled the undersized and aging Barca.

But I don't see either of these teams measuring up to the two Spanish teams going into the semis.  Of those, Real is probably the best overall, but Atletico is my favorite, I just love their discipline and attacking style.

They are a delight to watch as a team. So much attacking talent in front and even deeper in the midfield. It's a shame they had to go through the bus attack and play immediately after but nothing changes that now. Really, I hope Atleti or Juve wins the whole thing. Antionne Griezmann is one of my favorite players in the world (forward for Atletico) and Juventus, despite their obsession with defense over everything, are an incredibly talented outift. Massimiliano Allegri has led them to great heights the last few years and a CL Final win could earn them the treble. Hala Atleti and Forza Juve in the semis!

Monaco's dream season (they are also in 1st place in Ligue 1) continues.  They're one of the most fun teams to watch and probably won't keep the roster together after this year, so I'm pulling for them to win it all.  Allez l'ASM !

What a remarkable stat! And the ageless Buffon just continues to have calm greatness.

I could see them beating Real Madrid (best team left thanks in part to awful refs) due to the difference in net.
