WOOOOOOOOOO!!! U-S-A! U-S-A!! U-S-A!!!
Saturday in Tokyo the US U-20 WNT beat Germany 1-0 to win the Cup. It was the only goal Germany allowed in the whole tournament (record shutout streak of 610 minutes). Just before the half right back Crystal Dunn had a great run up the right side, beating a defender and sending a cross into the box, and F Kealia Ohai put it home. G Bryane Heaberlin and the team did a great job of keeping the Germans from scoring. (They had scored at least 3 goals in 4 of their 6 games, including a 3-0 win over the US.)
Captain defender Julie Johnston won the Bronze Ball as the tournament's third best player.
Prior to the final, Japan won 3rd place by beating Nigeria 2-1.

Great job by our young women, and how sweet to get payback on Germany in the final!

W 9/19 @ 10 PM ET on EPSN2 & 3 - WNT second friendly against Australia in Commerce City, CO. Pia Sundhage's last game as US coach.
Sundhage talks to USSoccer.com about coaching the WNT in the Olympics:

The women need a league to play in so they can stay in the USA. In Europe, the big club teams sponsor a women's team. But MLS is not to the level that they can do that.
What if NFL teams sponsored a women's soccer team? They obviously can't sponsor a women's (Amreican) football team. Could be a nice goodwill move and a good PR move.
Just an idle thought.
