OT: [Soccer Alert] Gerrard to MLS - 2nd Biggest Signing Ever for MLS?

Submitted by alum96 on

MGo soccer fans - I know Beckham had more global appeal but is this on par in terms of impact on the field?  I know it's not the same Gerrard as 4 year ago but a 10 year captain from one of the biggest clubs in England?  Pretty cool.

Non soccer fan translation - this would be like Yzerman leaving the Red Wings to go play in the KHL (Russia) at age 36.

DC United fan. Hate that these big signings go to LA or NY. Not effing fair.

Best signing ever by MLS was Marco Ecchevery -- when the league first started. Wasnt a huge name, especially in Europe, but was most important player the league ever had.

Would anyone ever want to see Cristiano Ronaldo in MLS as a Designated Player?

To me, he's kinda the Cindy Crosby of soccer.

I think Gerrard is as low as you go -- meaning he's really not in any kind of form anymore.

weather might do him some good.

I don't expect him to be a star in his performance, but he's a big name and a draw and if it gets young kids to shoot for a soccer career because they saw Steven Gerrard play that one night against Columbus, fine.

I will miss him at Anfield, his career has been the first I've seen from start to finish.
