The USA (1-1-1, 4 points) dropped into a tie for second place with Guatemala in Group A following Friday’s 2-1 loss to Jamaica (2-0-1, 7 points) at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. Despite the USA’s early lead thanks to Clint Dempsey’s goal 35 seconds into the match (a U.S. record for the fastest goal in qualifying), Jamaica tallied back-to-back goals off free kicks and posted its first win in history against the United States.Tuesday marks the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, D.C. and Shanskville, Penn. In recognition of playing on 9/11, U.S. Soccer will honor the occasion by distributing American flags to all those in attendance, and will recognize three first responders from the New York City Fire Department: Captain Joseph Brosi, Battalion Chief Wayman Iriarte, and Lieutenant Jason Hickey. All three are members of the FDNY Soccer Club.
The U.S. Men’s National Team was the first U.S. team in any sport to play post-9/11 when it defeated Jamaica 2-1 on Oct. 7, 2001, in a World Cup qualifier in Foxborough, Mass. With that win, the USA advanced to its fourth consecutive World Cup.

Man, I still feel like Klinsmann is experimenting and tinkering. I know Bradley being out contributes to that, but still, I just wish we felt a little more settled and solid. We're away to Antigua and home to Guatemala in the last two games of the semifinal. Honestly those should be two Ws. Then in the hexagonal, man, I don't know. We need to keep improving, I'll say that.

I want Danny Williams at defensive midfielder from now on. So much better on the ball and linking play than Edu or Beckerman, and far less reckless than Jermaine Jones. He's clearly not at home on the wing where Klinnsy's been playing him but he's a relavation lying deep. Plus, that was an absolute bomb he hit.
