OT - Snowmageddon POSBANG

Submitted by TatuajeVI on

The weather predictions for today and tonight have been all over the news with warnings of a nasty winter storm, so what better excuse for a POSBANG?! North of Detroit, we've only gotten about an inch of snow so far. The weather reports are saying the afternoon should bring the heaviest snow. Possible accumulation of 8-14 inches depending on your area. Monday and Tuesday we may set records for low temperatures. Be safe out there!

We got nothing. I went to bed around 3 and we weren't getting any snow and my daughter woke me around 9 and we weren't getting any snow. Weather sure is crazy. Good luck to everyone who is getting dumped on!

Here in southern Wayne county (Romulus), it is a pretty moderate snow - we've probably had a couple inches since it began around 5 AM with much more to come, according to the forecast, of course.

Around 8 AM, once it was light enough for me not to shovel by the light of the security lamps out front, I did a quick clearing of the driveway which has since filled in with additional snow. I would rather clear a few inches a few times than the entirety of the storm all at once if for no other reason than to even out the cardio workout.

I also made a nice full breakfast for myself and the family - bacon, sausage, eggs and toast. Much fun was had by all....also much protein. We'll all need that later this afternoon when clearing the driveway will supposedly be an exercise in futility.

Football and the odd episode of "Diagnosis Murder" might be the only thing on the TV today. As for drinks, coffee switching to wine later.

I like the way you think. I made a nice breakfast this morning and while the espresso double shot was good, this is an Earl Grey kind of day -- a fresh cup with some milk and honey hit the spot.

My neighbor started on mimosas and will be switching to beer later. I'll probably dip into the Zaya Gran Reserva rum at some point (I know rum is more of a warm weather spirit, but it's got to be warm somewhere).

Haven't been outside yet but by the looks of the truck I'd say maybe 4" so far. It's been a few years since we've really gotten hit so - as much as I love a good snow murder fisting - I'll contain my excitement till it actually happens. Been disappointed too many times. Oh, and wife stood in line for 45 minutes yesterday at Meijer. Wake up, people. We haven't had real snowfall since the 70's.

and I can't

I tried reading FAQ and emailing twice, no response...

is there some secret to this?

Thought I'd save this question for a thread like this.

So it's really not complicated. You just upvote any post in this thread. For no other reason other than "this is a POSBANG." I just upvoted your post, free points for you! Oh, and you can't upvote with the Android app, btw. Not sure about the iPhone app.

We got about 6 inches of snow here in Brooklyn. But it was really the wind and sub-freezing temperatures that were the problem. Unfortunately, they are expected to continue. Good day to stay inside and wach us trounce Nwestern.

I think I'm starting to get sick. Which sucks cuz I was in the hospital for 11 days about this time last year. I'm happy to just stay and try to recover

Right now it's still really pretty. Only a few inches of fresh snow here in Oakland county, and it's coming down all soft and sparkly.

Used to enjoy watching the blizzards come down, because I only had to walk to work, and Chicago could handle it. Now living in AZ, high should be about 70 today. I can't say I miss it. December 2010 London had a snowstorm that left about 10 cm accumulation, it paralyzed the city (and Heathrow) for literally a week. Once I found out I was completely screwed for getting back home, we settled down for an additional 7 days of vacation. Completely ruined me for most American beer....

I live right across from Comerica, and downtown hasn't seen anything from this "storm".  I see it on the radar, so, we'll obviously get some snow, but nothing close to the 14", we may even struggle to get to 8".

I must register a dispute.  Snow up to 12 inches isn't "snowmageddon," it's "winter."  24 inches, that might be snowmageddon, if the suffixes -mageddon and -pocalypse hadn't been placed on the banned words list for 2014.

At any rate, there's only about an inch or so on the ground right now, which is disappointing because I want to run my new snowblower around.  In an ideal world it'll drop another 8 inches on us and then stop for good at 7 or so.

Here in central Oklahoma we have about 1/2 inch of snow, and it's also about 40 degrees colder than yesterday.  I haven't been to the grocery store, but around her any prediction of snow or ice at all, even just a light dusting leads to long lines and runs on bread and milk.

One of my colleagues used to work in the news department of a local television station and she taught me a new phrase that the staff used to describe the excitement of the meterologists when any kind of storm was imminent: a weather woody.
