OT: Sling TV Beta Multi-Stream (FSD)
Cord cutters:
I see that Sling TV is now offering Fox Sports Detroit (and other regional Fox Sports channels) as part of its new Beta Multi-Stream service. The price is the same as the traditional single stream service, but without Disney channels.
I am wondering if this is finally a way to get, cheap, legal broadcasts of Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings games? (Is this going to work easily or is there some catch?)
If this works then I may never go back to cable. I'll just force myself to the bar for the 3 or so crappy Michigan football games on Big Ten Network.
Anyone try it out?
EDIT: I see that "Disney channels" includes the ESPN channels and not just Disney, Disney Jr., etc. That changes things.

"crappy Michigan football game"?

OP probably meant that it's crappy that we have to find a way to watch BTN. But you knew that.

Or a game against a "crappy" opponent (Central Florida, Rutgers...).

That is what I meant. No one can convince me that UNLV or Delaware State v. Michigan isnt a crappy match-up.

crappy scheduling by crappy AD's, crappy coverage by BTN. Unfortunately, even sometimes crappy outcomes of games.
But there's still no such thing as a "crappy Michigan football game".
M00N?
No wait, we won that one. Crappy ones to me are the ones we lost.

Is is that based on your location (I.e. in FSD coverage area)? If not, this would be awesome for out-of-staters

(Their website doesn't specifically say, but references "in market' consumers regarding regional sports networks. Sounds like Dave Brandon speak for "no out of staters allowed; you must buy each individual sports package")
Yeah I wish I could buy BTN and FSD a la carte so badly.

Hmm...switching out ESPN for Fox sports....seems logical if youre a huge baseball guy. No BTN is still an issue for me though.

So, "Disney channels" referred to ESPN as well. Crap.

Yeah, sling was OK and now sucks. It's kind of why bundling will win out in the end. Conglomerates like Disney will bundle their garbage in order to watch games or get Disney for your kid.
the only reason I haven't moved on from Comcast is that the kids still watch Disney channel.
They have that in Russia? Oh you meant the "Risney Channel."
I tried sling out last fall in a cord cutting experiment. It was terrible. Monday night games were poor quality when they were even coming in. Most were unable to be loaded. Customer service was not helpful at all. It wasn't my computer either as I could easily switch over to netflix or other streaming site. Cancelled after a couple months.
Sounds like you simply needed to upgrade your internet speed
Nope. I had the same issue. Super fast internet speed. sling TV is known to be terrible for ESPN. What it is great for is using it as a log in for the Watch ESPN app.

I've been doing the vue free trial using Amazon Fire tv - wireless. It's been going great so much in fact I called the cable company today to cut my cable tv.

I'm just waiting on vue to create a roku app and I'll probably switch.
I had sling for the better part of a year, along with a BTN streaming login from my brother in law. I Switched to Sony PlayStation Vue a few weeks ago, and it's great. All the ESPN channels, FSN 1 and 2, the local fox sports channel, plus all the other channels I actually watch with few that I don't. And it has an unlimited cloud DVR. Only costs me $35 a month. I works on Amazon Fire tv and the fire stick. I get the local networks by antenna. So far everything works great, it's much better than sling.
Hey! More threads about people's cable choices!

As much as I'd love to cut the cord, I don't think I could stand being without a DVR anymore.
Once that solution is worked into a comparable streaming option, I'll happily make he move.
Ps vue has a cloud based Dvr

But so long as my wife insists that she can't live without CBC, there is no hope of that any time soon.
As others have already mentioned. PS Vue is the best value out there for streaming service. It has ESPN, BTN and FS Detroit.
I cut my cable last month. I love it.
best part... No contract.
if I wasn't so invested with my TiVos, I'd probably do this. You can ahem, *find*, pretty much everything else online.
Only thing I might miss would be the travel/cooking channels, but there's so much of that available on YouTube now.
I am currently using this package. It works pretty well. I've watched both the Tigers and Red Wings with no problems. I plan on keeping this package for the summer and then switching back to ESPN during football season.
Thanks for the feedback. Started my 7 day free trial and am watching the Tigers as I type through my Fire Stick.
I have been purchasing episodes of walking dead at $2 a pop and AMC is included so that helps as well. Also found out that since I have T-Mobile I get a 30% discount so it's only $14 a month instead of $20.
