OT: Sling TV Beta Multi-Stream (FSD)

Submitted by PeterKlima on

Cord cutters:

I see that Sling TV is now offering Fox Sports Detroit (and other regional Fox Sports channels) as part of its new Beta Multi-Stream service.  The price is the same as the traditional single stream service, but without Disney channels.

I am wondering if this is finally a way to get, cheap, legal broadcasts of Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings games?  (Is this going to work easily or is there some catch?)

If this works then I may never go back to cable.  I'll just force myself to the bar for the 3 or so crappy Michigan football games on Big Ten Network.

Anyone try it out?

EDIT:  I see that "Disney channels" includes the ESPN channels and not just Disney, Disney Jr., etc.  That changes things.

crappy scheduling by crappy AD's, crappy coverage by BTN.  Unfortunately, even sometimes crappy outcomes of games.

But there's still no such thing as a "crappy Michigan football game".

Yeah, sling was OK and now sucks. It's kind of why bundling will win out in the end. Conglomerates like Disney will bundle their garbage in order to watch games or get Disney for your kid.

I tried sling out last fall in a cord cutting experiment. It was terrible. Monday night games were poor quality when they were even coming in. Most were unable to be loaded. Customer service was not helpful at all. It wasn't my computer either as I could easily switch over to netflix or other streaming site. Cancelled after a couple months.

I've been doing the vue free trial using Amazon Fire tv - wireless. It's been going great so much in fact I called the cable company today to cut my cable tv.

I had sling for the better part of a year, along with a BTN streaming login from my brother in law. I Switched to Sony PlayStation Vue a few weeks ago, and it's great. All the ESPN channels, FSN 1 and 2, the local fox sports channel, plus all the other channels I actually watch with few that I don't. And it has an unlimited cloud DVR. Only costs me $35 a month. I works on Amazon Fire tv and the fire stick. I get the local networks by antenna. So far everything works great, it's much better than sling.

As much as I'd love to cut the cord, I don't think I could stand being without a DVR anymore.

Once that solution is worked into a comparable streaming option, I'll happily make he move.

As others have already mentioned. PS Vue is the best value out there for streaming service. It has ESPN, BTN and FS Detroit.

I cut my cable last month. I love it.

best part... No contract.

if I wasn't so invested with my TiVos, I'd probably do this. You can ahem, *find*, pretty much everything else online.

Only thing I might miss would be the travel/cooking channels, but there's so much of that available on YouTube now.

I am currently using this package. It works pretty well. I've watched both the Tigers and Red Wings with no problems. I plan on keeping this package for the summer and then switching back to ESPN during football season.

Thanks for the feedback. Started my 7 day free trial and am watching the Tigers as I type through my Fire Stick.

I have been purchasing episodes of walking dead at $2 a pop and AMC is included so that helps as well. Also found out that since I have T-Mobile I get a 30% discount so it's only $14 a month instead of $20.
