It doesn't seem that steroids were a factor for these picks. Overall I think they did a good job picking the team though. If there is one correction I would make it would be RF, where I'd put Ichiro over Vlad.
OT: SI MLB All-Decade Team
I was hoping to see who the best Middle Linebackers were this decade. I was pulling for Paris Lenon.
I think he should have left off Barry Bonds. First he used steroids like they were candy. Second, for almost all of the second half of the decade he was a non-factor.
No. The past two years he was a non factor because he didn't play.
In 06 and 07 his OPS was .999 and 1.045 respectively.
The only problem he had the last 3 years he played was injury and he only missed significant time in 05.
Though that man is a steroid using scumbag he was a damn good baseball player.
209 home runs, 435 RBIs, .349/.559/.809, 256 OPS+
He was obviously on steroids, but holy shit. You can't keep those stats off of an All-Decade list.
How can you justify putting him on the all-decade team when he cheated for ALL 209 homeruns and 435 RBIs. Not a single one was legal.
Since steroids weren't illegal in the game, I think players from the early part of the decade who put up those ridiculous numbers should be recognized. After all, one of the benchmarks for greatness is how they played in comparison to their peers. And, since there were no rules against PEDs, how were they breaking the rules?
Now that that's out of the way...it's a fucking disgrace how much of a mockery they made of the game and I may never watch it the same way again.
Hopefully the next decade in MLB won't have the same cloud hanging over it like this did.
