OT: "Shutdown Fullback"- a 25 min video of EDSBS stream of consciousness

Submitted by iawolve on

Hey, got to hand it to the guys for trying a new format. The old school graphics were top notch. Will be interesting to see where this all goes. The content is not much different from a podcast, but definitely more goofy with the basement scene. Worth a viewing.

Should I feel bad that I can't stand watching this?

I'm a huge Orson fan but this doesn't appeal at all to me. I don't watch any of the espn.com videos; I only watch the scout.com videos that are transcribed; I pretty much only watch the highlight videos so maybe it's just me.

Regardless of the reason, I'm going to be very disappointed the day Brian is zinging his one-liners via video, Ace is holding a mic with an MGOBLOG logo and Heiko is verbalizing his snarky photo captions.

I think one of the best parts about writing is that you can carefully craft your message and hit your words just right. Excellent speakers can orate the same way as an excellent writer writes, sure, but most excellent writers typically aren't excellent speakers. Orson and Brian use great prose and structure to make a lot of overhashed college football news fun to read.

The major positive of video seems like it takes less time to create. I don't know - maybe I'm just a hater.

I'm an Orson fan, but Off Season Orson is very hit or miss (aside from the Fulmer Cup).  It's pretty much the nature of the beast though, he doesn't have a lot of material to work with and has to experiment.  So he's trying a podcast thing only with graphics.  At least he's trying new things, but hey they can't all be winners.

Thanks for the kind words, first of all.

Second, we have a chance to do video, so we're doing it. You might hate it. You might like it. You might never watch it.  It's a college football video podcast made by doofus Southern college football hipsters. Most people, actually, should never, ever watch this.

But instead of bitching about ESPN for the rest of our lives, we have the chance to make something we'd like watching. That's why we've done this, or anything in blogging. That's been the M.O. all along, and will continue to be. The people we are waiting for haven't shown up yet, and likely never will.  We have to do it ourselves, and learn along the way.

It's quite terrifying for all concerned, I assure you, most especially for the viewer.

Finally, Brian's deadpan stare would be television gold. He'll never do it, but there's a place for him in front of a camera, most likly staring very intently at something very stupid with cold rage in his eyes. I'd watch that for like, at least two minutes.

Kudos for putting it all out there every week. Not too many of us could do that. Secondly, if you don't get Cook on for a Cameo, shame on you. That would send the this board into a spin and your hits would spike like having Rihanna on the show, well maybe not at much as Rihanna, this is a sports blog you know.

the production reminds me of a very poorly done version of the Tim and Eric Awesome show...

I love everything EDSBS writes, but I cant say im a fan of this video podcast

I don't say this often (complete lie) but Spencer Hall is ugly on a level that rivals that freak from the Mask (the one with Cher). I am genuinely shocked he found a frame that would both maintain structure and hold two lenses that far apart. Well played walleye lens manufacturers of America. And to think your glasses for fish idea wouldn't pan out.
