OT - Shannon out at Miami
Miami's Rivals site is reporting Randy Shannon and staff will be fired tomorrow. Generally these Rivals sites are pretty good about being on this kind of stuff.
I wasn't going to post this here but this gives me a bit more confidence, so take a rumor FWIW: Talked to a well-connected alum today who was extremely confident not only that Jim Harbaugh would be hired as the next coach of Michigan, but that Rich Rodriguez would be taking his talents to South Beach. I'm still not overwhelmingly confident, but this is certainly an interesting development. We'll see how this thing plays out I suppose.

I highly doubt that Miami hires a coach that has been under .500 in his previous stop at another big time program. The only thing RR would have going for him in that situation is that he already has established relationships in the state of Florida.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:14 PM ^
and his system might work better in the ACC.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:32 PM ^
Just like Auburn wouldn't hire Chizik who wen't 5-19 at Iowa State before taking over the Auburn job..
November 27th, 2010 at 10:43 PM ^
The same Chizik who in year 2 at Auburn is 12-0. But we shouldn't make any changes to our coaching staff because we should be patient and wait for results to come.
November 28th, 2010 at 1:18 AM ^
The ability to pay a large sum of money to a 5 star senior QB has kinda made the transition smoother.......
Don't ya think?
November 27th, 2010 at 11:23 PM ^
5-19 at Iowa St. doesn't look quite as bad as the same at Michigan. And Chizik had Auburn connections and report w/ the administration there. What relationship does RR have with Miami? Absolutely none except for recruiting the state of Florida.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:52 PM ^
would love it in Miami.

I dunno man, she wasn't lookin' so hot in that tub.

She stilll looks pretty hot sitting in a tub of her own blood.

It was reported on Bill King last week that teams were inquiring about RRods status, the story was that if the canes thought they could get RRod , they would fire shannon .
November 27th, 2010 at 10:24 PM ^
It's a weird rumor yet it makes an odd amount of sense. RR has a lot of recruiting ties to Florida, the ACC is weak and he has a lot of pride. Resigning might be better than even the chance of being fired in his mind. If RR bails now before DB has officially made up his mind, then he can claim he left entirely on his own terms and before his boss made a decision to his fate.
In the end though it sounds like talk people use to get readers/listeners. Still stranger things have happened.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
He would want the buyout. This rumor looks bogus.
November 28th, 2010 at 1:07 AM ^
At the same time, he lost his buyout due to the admitting of NCAA violations. Subsequently, isn't it if DB want's to fire RR, that he can do so without penalty?
Edit: I am a dumbshit. I'm getting RR's buyout and UM's buyout confused. tl;dr.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:31 PM ^
RR is very loyal to his assistants. If the decision is more than GERG has to go, that presents a loyalty dilemma. If he gets told any of his boys have to go, what will he do? Would he resign rather than let some of his old school assistants get fired?
November 27th, 2010 at 10:35 PM ^
Good point. If Brandon says Gibson has to go, but Miami says "Sure, bring the whole gang!"...
All pure speculation of course.
November 28th, 2010 at 1:38 PM ^
This would be so weird for me. I am cane fan, have been all my life, so seeing that move would be, umm, dejavuish? Though I have been reading on Manny Navarro's twitter feed (reports on Canes) that Miami is going hard after John Gruden FWIW.

Cursed double post. Damn you to hell!!!

Of nameless, well connected sources. Good Luck to Shannon hopefully he lands on his feet.

...rumor that WCBN is reporting.
Bonus rumor: As a special thank you for reading this entire post, we'll reward you with a bit of slightly irresponsible rumor-mongering. WCBN has learned from an very confident alum we chatted with post game who promised us he had the inside scoop on the fate of Rodriguez and Michigan. This alum told us that by mid-week next week, Rich Rodriguez will be introduced as the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes (which also implies that Randy Shannon's tenure at the U will come to an end) and that Jim Harbaugh would in fact be the next coach at Michigan. The guy we talked to could be completely wrong, but his confidence and specificity lead us to believe there could be some truth to the story. We thought we'd pass this along, but Bill is more convinced than I am that this guy actually had an inside track on the matter.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
Makes sense, I wrote the WCBN posting.
Again, Shannon getting canned wasn't exactly a huge surprise and this could still be coincidence, but what the hell, we're in meltdown mode and it was a hell of a rumor.

More importantly...how was your trip to Columbus? My guess is the natives were relatively calm given the curb-stomping we took.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:40 PM ^
Survived.
Seems like the OSU fans might be losing a bit of their edge with complacency. The highlight was definitely a guy yelling, "You're in the wrong state motherfuckers," in a perfect Kenny Powers accent.

Holy double post.

D. Brandon will look like an idiot...Brandon is not an idiot
November 27th, 2010 at 11:47 PM ^
he's "astonishingly foolish"
(Take an irony pill as you read this, it is stated for humour's sake. It just amazes me how some of these pundits throw descriptors around about people like DB that way - show's you what they really think of the school, if nothing else has already.)

me too...my dog died when I came home for Christmas break...
November 27th, 2010 at 11:09 PM ^
because my dog also died on your birthday.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:36 PM ^
My dog died on November 22, 2003. Yeah, THAT November 22 in 2003. It's been a joke in the family for years.
Well it would be if it happened. I feel so empty today.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:32 PM ^
I have a Navarre jersey. What's wrong with that?
November 27th, 2010 at 10:41 PM ^
i have a denard jersey.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:52 PM ^
You guys can all suck my Vlad Emilien jersey.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:59 PM ^
what are you talking about that is a Tate jersey.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:05 PM ^
Courtney Avery would like a word with that peanut. Or potato. Whatever.
November 27th, 2010 at 11:33 PM ^
and let's not forget the possibility of D. Hart and Crawford potentiall switching commitments. I know Hart said that he could play in any system, but with them being from Florida, this scenario could happen. FUCK
November 28th, 2010 at 1:37 AM ^
RR saves face, as he switches jobs, but he may take some players from Florida with him
I could see us losing a recruit or two, but I doubt many players would follow him. No one from WVU came here in 2008. When this happens, players tend to feel like the coach abandoned them.
But anyway, this won't happen. Miami can't afford it.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:14 PM ^
Shannon always seemed like a good person to me. If true, I wish him best. Does this mean Schiano's dream came true?
November 27th, 2010 at 10:17 PM ^
I think the guy is a great DC. If we get a new one he's got my vote.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
Good point!
<br>
November 27th, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
No more failed HCs turned DC please. Just no.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
Meh, I don't like the picture that the ESPN 30 for 30 on Miami painted. If you didn't see it, he delivered money to players in the 80s. I'm sure that's long in the past, but I'd rather he didn't do it ever.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:18 PM ^
I wonder if Denard would follow RR to Miami.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
Are you really trying to start speculation on who is transferring to Miami based on this ridiculous rumor? C'mon, you're better than that.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
I would literally cry if Denard left Michigan. He's a student-athlete that comes around once every decade, and to see him go to a place like The U.....
<br>
<br>Well, at least his parents would get to see him play in person.
November 27th, 2010 at 10:48 PM ^
And people wonder why I don't want RR fired.
If all this came true and Harbaugh led the <domer>Return To Glory</domer> I'd be happy, of course, to see Michigan back on top, but it would stick in my craw to listen to the talk from the Rosenbergs of the world. Right now I don't just want Michigan to succeed, I want Rich Rodriguez to succeed at Michigan.
